Also, I remember Kerry Teague's wreck being pretty nasty. He was OK, but I think he was shaken-up for a little bit. 2. He was listed in serious condition at the hospital as a result of a head injury he suffered in the accident. He went off course and took a hard hit into the wall. 3. Terry Labonte makes the second of his 3 appearences in the Truck series in 1995. Driving the #5 DuPont Chevy, painted indentical to Jeff Gordon's #24 car, Labonte finished 3rd. Amazingly, it was his worst finish ever in the Truck series. This was the first Truck race for Darrel Waltrip and also the debut for Mark Simo. Bob Jones makes his only major NASCAR appearence Butch Gilliland makes his last start in Jim Smith's short-lived second truck the #06, coming 8 races after its previous start. The truck didn't run again and Butch finished 13rd in his last start. 7. RaceFanX posted: 09.13.2008 - 2:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Best career finish for Trans-Am star Tommy Archer in 10th 8. Teague's wreck was really disturbing. You could very clearly see him sitting in it unconscious as the course workers get to work aiding him (one even climbed into his trucl to help). He was airlifted out. Kerry had spun off harmlessly about a lap or two earlier and the announcers at first thought his truck just hadn't restarted (apparently they missed the massive amount of damage it had on the driver's side after backing in) before realizing how bad it was. Trans-Am racer Tommy Archer's only top-10 finish in NASCAR 10. The All American Race Car Museum was also on the truck but not in as large a capacity 11. There was some minor confusion about when the break was to be, it actually came after lap 31 instead of 30 as expected. After losing the lead before the break, "Restart Ron Hornaday" lived up to his future nickname and immediately took it back after the break. After he won, stopped on pit road to pick up his crew with his pickup before heading to victory lane. Future 24 Hours of LeMans winner Davy Jones was in this race, still somewhat fresh off his failed Cup gig earlier in the year, and ran decent before a blown motor (with a small fire) put him out. Davy's IMSA GTP alumni P.J. Jones (no relation) didn't do much better, overheating put him out. In something you'd never see today, Glenn Jarrett climbed over the pit wall and interviewed Jones as he sat in the truck while the crew tried in vain to fix it (pit road in early truck races was almost always empty unless a truck had problems, there were no pit stops in most early races expect to fix problems) Rick Hendrick and his teammate Scott Lagasse got together at one point, it ended Rick's hopes for a good finish although that may be moot since the Boss went out a few laps later with mechanical woes. Lagasse spun like 3-5 times in this one. Tobey Butler's crew chief Dave Nelson broke his left hand working on the truck. Despite a sick motor and being down 100 HP, Butler still managed a leap-lap finish and ran in the top-10 much of the day before Butch Miller spun him late in the race. 12. There was an article on nascar.com in which Hornaday shared him memories about this race, and according to him during the break drivers were changing their helmets from open-faced to close-faced. And also it was impossible to see the end of the frontstretch and cars far ahead because of the waves of hot air. 21. RaceFanX posted: 03.02.2018 - 12:38 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Given P.J. Jones' road racing background it might be a bit of a surprise this was his only Truck series road course appearance. This was his penultimate start in Scoop Vessels' #1 Sears DieHard Chevrolet before he left the team to go work with Dan Gurney's developing Toyota CART program. 22. He preserved the red #25 Budweiser Chevrolet he drove here and has displayed it in the team's museum. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
