Jack Sprague's best finish for his previous owner Bruce Griffin had been 5th at Tuscon, but here, at North Wilkesboro, and at Bakersfield, Jack finished a season best 4th. 3. Joe Ruttman qualified on the pole, his first in the series and only one of 1995, but was passed by Ron Hornaday on the opening lap. He ran second for several laps then got spun after contact from Bill Sedgwick, right as announcer Glenn Jarrett was talking about how Sedgewick was a "very smooth, non-aggressive driver" then after a laugh as Ruttman looped it adding "like I said he'll run over you if you give him a chance." Joe's truck was undamaged and both Rutttman and Sedgwick went on to finish in the top-10. Reigning Winston West champion Mike Chase moves into the Truck series and makes his first start after replacing P.J. Jones in Scoop Vessels' then-famous #1 Sears DieHard Chevrolet. Chase's debut was short-lived as when Ruttman spun he made contact with Bob Strait's #37 and started losing it then clipped the edge of an opening on the inside wall, launching his truck airborne with only the right-front still on the ground before the truck slammed back down. The damage from this incident would eventually send #1 to the sidelines early. Jones, who had been with the Trucks since their debut exhibitions on 1994, left to prepare for his new Toyota CART ride in 1996. Scott Lagasse qualified fourth, his best start on an oval, and ran there in the opening laps before he and Rick Carelli made contact and he spun into the outside wall. The DuPont #24 was crunched and done for the day. Glenn Jarrett didn't DNQ but he did take a few laps in practice in a NASCAR truck provided by Chevrolet. Sammy Swindell flew out after this race and did make it to Knoxville in time for the Nationals. Driving his Hooters #1 sprint car he finished 6th in the A-Main while Steve Kinser, fresh off flopping out of Winston Cup earlier in the year, was dominant on the way to victory. 17. This was the closest Rick Carelli came to scoring a victory in the Truck series' inaugural season as he had the Total #6 Chevrolet out front in the closing laps only for Hornaday to pass him on the last lap (they raced each other aggressive, but clean). The High Plains Drifter had to wait until 1996 to finally take a trip to victory lane. 18. Since NASCAR Truck rules at the time prohibited tire changes unless a tire was flat or going down they could only change the punctured right rear, so the team jacked up the rear of the truck only, changed it and Butch went right back out...although the rough luck and losing two laps because of it combined with Hornaday's win dropped him from third to fourth in the points. 19. It must go into "overtime" with a green white checkered finish attempt. This was the 2nd of 2 times during the inaugural season where it came into play. The first was the 2nd race of the season in Tucson, also won by Ron Hornaday Jr. 23. Jimnsimforever posted: 03.09.2019 - 8:28 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) RaceFanX is correct, it was right after taking the checkered flag that Hornaday spun. As soon as he crossed the line Rick Carelli got into his right rear corner and spun him on purpose. Hornaday was holding onto it going through turn 1 but lost it and it went on around before turn 2. The reason I know it was on purpose was because in victory lane while TNN was interviewing Hornaday, Carelli came in and joined the interview and apologized to Hornaday for getting him at the end. He said it was because he was mad, and they had a laugh about it. Hornaday didn't hit the wall or anything and didn't do any damage to the truck. Carelli likely was in shock that he lost this race. It was so hard to pass on this track and Carelli got a great restart that was better than Hornaday's. So good in fact that the commentators were praising him for it and as Carelli was going around turn 3 Glenn Jarrett starting to say every scenario they had talked about was moot and was about to give him the win, then going into turn 4 Carelli got a little wide and loose and Hornaday stuck it under him and got by him right at the line for the white flag. Not making excuses for him or anything, as its obviously never ok to wreck or spin someone on purpose. 24. Dennis Setzer crashed out early with the only Dodge Ram in the field as both Bob Keselowski and Walker Evans opted to skip this race. (I think they opted to skip. We've got no DNQ data but with no mention of any on the broadcast and an unusually small starting field and NASCAR running more Trucks here in the future I suspect there most likely weren't any.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
