He'll probably run a few more races over the next few years and then never be heard from again. 20. He parked the truck and left the track in a hurry. The official reason for the DNF given by his crew chief was "ignition problems" but it was clearly implied that Schrader had parked a healthy machine. 21. Ron Hornaday, Jr. won the first race here back in April and had the best truck again. He led late until being passed for the lead by comeback racer Ernie Irvan. The reason for the pass became apparent just seconds later when Hornaday blew the right front tire and slide up the track in Turn 4, he mostly kept it off the wall but his chances of a season sweep were gone. Las Vegas' Wayne Jacks, making his fifth and final start of the year, spun early in this one to bring out a yellow. He then spun again later in the race but it didn't bring out a yellow this time. Despite the 360s Jacks came home 14th to record his best Trucks series finish. 22. Bodine, a Truck champion more than a decade later, scored a top-10 in every start he made for Roush. He wouldn't run another Truck race for more than eight years after this one. 23. He actually won at Rockingham in Ron Parker's #72 Busch car 6 days after this race. 24. RaceFanX posted: 11.09.2018 - 10:23 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The Busch and Cup series were off for this weekend, thus the reason why a late season Truck race on a California short track attracted several racers from the higher series (Todd and Geoff Bodine, Ken Schrader, Johnny Benson, Jr., Ernie Irvan [although he was just starting his Cup comeback]). Ray Daniels' 16th-place finish here was his best in the Truck series. As noted earlier this was his last start on the tour, the Colorado racer DNQed for the finale at Phoenix then withdrew at Homestead the following spring. 25. Harvick, a NASCAR Southwest Tour regular at the time, is from Bakersfield and Mesa Marin here was his home track. 26. Larry Mac said during the broadcast that although Barry had signed to be the crew chief for the entire 96 season for that team, he wasn't with the team at this race and was taking the rest of the year off to rest, recharge and spend time with loved ones. After the race they interviewed Mike Bliss, who finished 2nd, and he said hi to Barry back at home, we wish u well etc etc. 28.
