He'd didn't get a top 10 out of it but good run for Ron Barfield Jr leading 34 laps, this was one of the races that helped Bill Elliott decide to move him up to a limited run in Busch for the remainder of the season. This was his only finish outside the top 10 before he left the series as a regular after the next race. Two races after his big win at Homestead, Dave Rezendes finishes last. First race for Lonnie Cox 2. Hornaday was the first driver who won a race in 1995 to win again in 1996, the first two races had seen first-time winners (Rezendes and Sprague). After blowing an engine at Homestead and getting caught up in a wreck at Phoenix Bill Sedgwick came into this race needing a good run with his new Darrell Waltrip-owned team and got it. He ran a clean race and finished fourth, the first of eight top-10s for the West Coast favorite this season. 11. nascar_vd / racing-reference.info posted: 04.24.2018 - 10:49 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) C1996-03 Awards Busch Pole Award: Rich Bickle Gatorade Front Runner Award: Ron Hornaday, Jr. Plasti-Kote Winning Finish Award: Doug Richert (#16) Ventvisor Brand Super Deflector Award: Ron Hornaday, Jr. Featherlite Trailers Long Haul Award: Ron Hornaday, Jr. Cintas Rookie-Of-The-Race Award: Bryan Reffner 12. Petty waited 17 years between Nascar poles but wouldn't have to wait near that long again as Bickle would win another pole just a month later and Bobby Hamilton would put the famous #43 STP on the pole 2 times later in the 96 Winston Cup season. 13.
