Butler had been a regular on the tour in 1995 but this was his first start of the 1996 season in which he ran part time for Kenny Schrader. 3. Bickle had to relent as they had issues with gas during the halftime break and would have to conserve the 2nd half. The announcers also focused a lot on local driver Dan Press who drove his nearly unsponsored 53 into the top 5 and claim a top 3 despite having nowhere near the funding of the trucks that finished around him. Ken Schrader was supposed to run this race but with the rainout in Loudon he gave his seat to Northwestern Local and 1995 full time competitor Tobey Butler. CBS announced Schrader sent a letter of withdrawal from the event due to the rainout and said in the letter in a PS that he hoped he could find the other half of his thumb at the track (As this was where he lost his thumb in the engine the prior year). A young 20 year old Kevin Harvick showed a bit of the temper hed have much of his early career when he got turned in a mix up on a restart past halfway when Walker Evans got into the back of him, spinning him out and pounding the inside wall. Harvick slowly got out of his car and sternly pointed at the veteran over twice his age. 9. He only found out two days before this race that team wanted him to take the wheel of the ACDelco #52 Chevrolet because Kenny wouldn't be able to make it himself. 12.
