This was Rick Carelli's last race with Total Petroleum as his sponsor.
In the next race at Bristol, they debuted their new sponsorship from
RE/MAX and finally scored that elusive victory.

Roush Racing's Exide #99 Ford F-150 makes its series debut. In 1996 the
truck ran a part-time, eight race schedule with Roush's Cup drivers Jeff
Burton, Mark Martin, and Ted Musgrave all taking a turn behind the wheel
before it became a full-time team in 1997 with ex-Busch champion Chuck
Bown as the driver. Burton, Exide's Cup driver at the time, got the keys
for its first outing and brought his new pickup home with a top-10 run.

Mike Skinner records his third win in a row. This was Skinner's only
NASCAR Truck victory on a road course.

This was short track favorite Bobby Gill's first-ever road course race.
He got a top-15 despite being somewhat out of his element.

Tommy Archer was the driver that qualified the #30 truck. Jimmy Hensley
missed qualifying to attend his daughters high school graduation.

Archer recorded a top 10 in the inaugural race here in the Truck Series.

This was Darrell Waltrip's first Truck series start of the season with
DW running this one in a second truck out of his own shop as a teammate
to series regular Bill Sedgwick. The pair both ran Sears DieHard
Chevrolets in this one with Sedgwick's normal black-and-orange #17 being
accompanied by Waltrip's new reverse painted orange-and-black #5. DW
said going into this race he figured this outing at Heartland Park
Topeka would be a lot of fun and proved to be a solid one for his team,
he finished 11th with Sedgwick claiming a top-10 right in front of him.

Eli Gold and Larry McReynolds were the commentators. Glenn Jarrett was
the sole pit road reporter.
