Clark who dragged a rogue wheel around the racetrack. Bliss wiped out approximately 7 sections of chain-link fence when he got up on his side against the wall, prompting a near hour-long red flag. 15. This was a popular win for Carelli as many were somewhat surprised it took him this long to win a points race in the series. He'd been with the series since some of its earliest exhibitions in 1994 and won one of the "Winter Heat" races that led up to the start of the tour in 1995 but had been locked out of victory lane in the championship events until he broke through here. The Carelli, Chesrown, and RE/MAX partnership would prove to be a good one. They won three races and remained together through the closure of Chesrown's Truck team after Carelli's serious injuries in early 1999. The team continued to run the same white, blue, red, and orange paint scheme in 1996 for RE/MAX they had for Total but would switch to a new white-and-red scheme that better fit their new sponsor in 1997. 16. He got almost no practice, got lapped several times right after the start and was sidelined by a multi-truck crash in the opening laps with Randy Renfrow and Steve Mendenhall after Renfrow got into him and spun him. Oops. ESPN put up a field rundown before this race that listed the starting grid as containing "27 Chevrolets, 5 Fords, 3 Pontiacs, and 1 Oldsmobile" before this race by mistake (a carry over from the All Pro race held and televised right before this one). Dave Despain started reading it only to pause when he got to Pontiac as he and Benny Parsons pointed out Pontiac and Oldsmobile didn't make trucks. They joked about the idea of an Oldsmobile truck that must have "been announced just five minutes ago." While both Pontiac and Oldsmobile made SUVs (Olds already was) neither company ever marketed a pickup. World parachute record holder Jimmy Davis makes his only Truck series start. He struggled to get his Ford up to speed, got lapped almost immediately, and parked it in the opening laps. He tried a few more races in this series but never made the field. 17. 48johnsonfan posted: 01.15.2018 - 10:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (2) Fun Fact: This race was ran one day after I was born. 18. nascar_vd / racing-reference.info posted: 04.24.2018 - 10:58 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) C1996-08 Awards Busch Pole Award: Mike Skinner Gatorade Front Runner Award: Mike Skinner Plasti-Kote Winning Finish Award: Rick Ren (#6) Ventvisor Brand Super Deflector Award: Mike Skinner Featherlite Trailers Long Haul Award: Rick Carelli Cintas Rookie-Of-The-Race Award: Jay Sauter 19. That's what happened to him in the last quarter of the race when Rick Carelli took the lead for the first time of the night and then that big wreck happened literally right after he did with the truck turning over and it sent Benny into Benny mode. I could only imagine a race with any of the lap by lap guys of the day with broadcast partners Benny Parsons and Buddy Baker together. 20.
