I think it's cool he crunched the data, interesting to see Skinner would have got the title if that format was used. Bill Sedgewick's time as a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series regular ended before this race when Darrell Waltrip's time let the driver of the #17 DieHard Chevrolet go. Sedgewick was replaced in the #17 for this race by Winston Cup racer Ken Schrader with Rich Bickle taking over the truck full time, and racking up a lot of success with it, in 1997. Gant did win the qualifying race. 24. Doug George brought the bright yellow-and-green Ortho Ford home with a top-20 in its last ride, completing his rookie campaign to make 1996 the only Truck season where he would run in every race. Ortho moved to Charles Hardy's new #35 Chevrolet effort for 1997 but the driver's seat in that truck would turn out to be a revolving door. 29. pimmy posted: 03.14.2017 - 6:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Standings page corrections: 100 - Danny Hieber - 113 pts 103 - G.T. Skinner's success in the Trucks, with a championship in 1995 and a near miss here, led his owner Richard Childress to move him up to Winston Cup as Dale Earnhardt's teammate in 1997 when he expanded to a two-car effort. Childress hired Jay Sauter away from SABCO to take over the #3 truck for 1997 upon Skinner's departure. RCR fielded a second one-off entry in this race, the #03 Realtree Chevrolet, to give Sauter a warm up race with the team before he joined it on a full time basis the following year. 34. Jimnsimforever posted: 04.03.2019 - 6:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @23 Only 10 or 11 laps into this race broadcast they had a pit report saying that Darrell Waltrip was telling his crew that he thought his truck was down to 7 cylinders. Mike Joy then said that DW had 2 trucks in the race, that Bill Sedgwick practiced and attempted to qualify but didn't make the show and Ken Schrader made it. I would've liked to hear him explain more about the situation and why Schrader was in the #17 that Sedgwick drove all year but something happened on the track that got him to stop talking about it suddenly and then they went to commercial. Another person I'm wondering what happened to is Felix Giles. He was interviewed during the Phoenix race broadcast one week before. The interview was to promote the fact that Felix Giles was going to be attempting to make the field at Las Vegas the next week and his goal was he wanted to be the first African American to go in the record books as running in the Truck Series. He mentioned having a car stero company as a sponsor and their motto was go play in traffic and said that's what he planned to do. He either failed to qualify and isn't listed or plans changed in a very short time, or wrecked and tore up the truck and WD before qualifying. Finally, the most awesome thing about this entire race broadcast happened during the pace laps after the first scheduled competition caution. They went to the in truck camera of Mike Skinner that was pointing directly at him. He removed his right glove, then proceeded to pick 4 boogers. Each one he picked he looked at it and rolled them in his fingers. The first 2 he wiped on his pant leg. The 3rd booger was flipped toward the passenger window of the truck and the final booger in question was again wiped on his pants. If you are a pit reporter after the race that interviews him, what do you do when he puts that hand out for the customary handshake after the interview is concluded? 38. Jimnsimforever posted: 04.03.2019 - 6:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) To add to my last paragraph, Glenn Jarrett was giving a pit report while all of that was going on. After he was finished he threw it back to Mike Joy. Mike and broadcast partner Buddy Baker lost it, both laughing. Buddy finally said, I was watching Mike Skinner and we won't go go there. Then Joy added, yeah I was too, and Buddy lost it again busting out laughing. 39. Anonymous posted: 09.07.2019 - 9:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bill Elliott's crew chief was Tim Brewer. 40.
