Amid some turmoil regarding his immediate future in Trans Am racing, Ron
Fellows opted to give NASCAR a try and entered a handful of Craftsman
Truck races over the course of 1997-98, and not all on road courses
either as we see here.

This was Fellows' debut in the series.

Ford dominated the race, leading all the laps and taking the top 5 spots.

Kenny Irwin, Jr.'s second and final Truck series win. His two early
season triumphs in 1997 helped propel him to both the series' Rookie of
the Year title and a shot at Winston Cup in Robert Yates' famous #28
Havoline Ford for 1998.

Pretty sure you got that from tonight's truck race broadcast.
Interesting fact, though, considering all the rookies that have come
through the Truck series.

Randy Tolsma's eighth-place finish was his first top-10 finish in the
Truck series. This race marked something of a turnaround for Tolsma and
the #61 team, making just their third start of the year, as after
failing to qualify for four of the first eight races they would go on to
have five top-10 runs later in the season starting here.

Jack Sprague won the pole for this race. They then found that he had an
illegal motor and made him start from the back of the field.

The Commentators For The Race Were Dave Despain And Benny Parsons. The
Pit Road Reporters Were Jerry Punch And Marty Reid.
