I think Kelly Moore or Bobby Dragon won the 100-lap event. As for the Trucks, as usual Ron Hornaday had a truck capable of challenging Jack Sprague for the win. Unfortunately, Hornaday was caught up in a pretty hard crash on the backstretch. Hornaday was sporting a cool gold paint scheme celebrating NAPA's 100th anniversary. That was my only trip to Nazareth Speedway. I wish I had gone more because it's a really cool track. 2. Shepherd wouldn't return to the Trucks until 2000 but the Cup veteran would eventually become somewhat of a staple in the trucks between 2001 and 2003. 3. J. The scheme was part of their celebration of winning the title in 1996 and it was run two or three times more later in the season. 10. He was trying to wreck Bown for a lap and ended up getting spun by Compton, asshat Ronnie got what he deserved here. 11. DEI also announced it had renewed its contract with Hornaday for another three years in the lead up to this race. The gold scheme was supposed to become recurring, with an initial plan to run it in the next three races before going back to the normal blue one, but IIRC it ended up being a one-off here. 12. The wreck saw both trucks get hooked together before a hard blast into the turn 1 wall. Roper ended up on a stretcher afterward for the ride to the care center even if he climbed out under his own power. Rizzo was on the lap lead when the wreck occurred while Roper was three laps down. Rizzo, who also got hurt a bit at Homestead earlier in the season, and his #27 team skipped a few races after this one before returning at IRP a month later. Jimmy Hensley was running in the top-10 when he and another truck got together and he spun, getting t-boned at slow speed by Rick Crawford as a result. The wreck didn't bring out a yellow but it broke the radiator on Hensley's #43, requiring a trip behind the wall to fix it. Tobey Butler's last outing in Ken Schrader's #52 Purolator PureOne Filters Chevrolet sees the white Silverado exit the race just before halfway in a giant cloud of smoke. A blown motor put him out of the race at Turn 2 so he just pulled in at an access road and took it straight back to the hauler, done for the day. Issues earlier in the day had already seen the #52 lose three laps before it grenaded. The team replaced Butler with Mike Wallace for the rest of the season after this race. Pennsylvania's own Danny Hieber attempted six Truck races, all in the Northeast, throughout 1996 and 1997 but this was the only one where he successfully qualified for the race. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
