First career top ten finish for Mike Wallace in the truck series

Wisconsin's own Rich Bickle came into this race leading the points and
qualified second. After doing his pre-race interview wearing a Green Bay
Packers Cheesehead hat he turned in a podium finish although title rival
Jack Sprague's fourth-place run minimized almost all of the benefit he
could have gained from it in the title race.

Mike Wallace's great run here came in the ex-Cup racer's first outing in
Ken Schrader's #52 PureOne Filters Chevrolet. The team struggled early
in the season with Truck series vet Tobey Butler at the wheel so the
decision was made to have Wallace take the wheel for the rest of the
season, the move paid off as the team's performance improved greatly
with its new driver. Wallace was so new to the team they didn't have a
purpose-made PureOne firesuit ready for him in time for this race so he
used one that was originally to be going to be used by his gas man since
it was the only one that fit. Schrader, in Daytona for the Pepsi 400
earlier in the day, called the team and told Wallace to go get a top-10
finish and he did just that for his new boss.

The Commentators For The Race Were Eli Gold And Ned Jarrett. The Pit
Road Reporters Were Dick Berggren And Mike Joy.
