I always thought she was a solid racer in the Trucks and would have set a good example. 3. biffle16 posted: 03.26.2007 - 9:52 pm Rate this comment: (1) (4) Sauter ran out of gas on the final lap. Bobby Hamilton set his truck up for this race by going to small airport and running laps on a makeshift course set up on its runways. According to the broadcast there were times when he had to pull off in the grass to let a plane land or take-off before he'd go back to running laps. It worked, Bobby ran well all day and got a solid top-10 in his first Truck race of the year (and only his third overall) Heartland Park had a new configeration for this race, letting the trucks run a layout with three more turns to increase the track length by a third of a mile. Trans-Am ace Dorsey Schroeder picks up his only top-5 in NASCAR 6. While he changed teams in the interim he still had a good run going in this one, qualifying in the top-10 and running as high as sixth before he was spun by road course ringer Lou Gigliotti coming off the road course and onto the drag strip. The transmission in Rezendes' Ortho #35 Chevy gave out as he aggressively tried to spin his truck back around to rejoin the race. NASCAR didn't appreciate Gigliotti's over-aggressive move and it lead NASCAR parking the future Texas Congressional candidate for a penalty, something that almost surely contributed to his retirement moments later. 8. ol hank posted: 12.10.2017 - 12:00 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Kansas local Marc Robe finished the race off for Rob Morgan. It was well over 100 degrees, a number of drivers had to be subbed for or retired do to fatigue. Moments before Sauter ran out of fuel, Sprague missed a turn and failed to follow the rules of falling back in line, in this case behind Joe Ruttman. NASCAR assessed a 15 second penalty to Sprague but waived it after Sprague allowed Ruttman to pass him just as they came up on the sputtering truck of Sauter. Tammy Jo Kirk initially was thought to have scored a top-10, the only one of her career, but a scoring error was corrected to move Tony Raines from 12th to 10th 9. Emphasis on drive, not limp, the hood smacked the windshield in such a way there was gap large enough to see through at the bottom and Miller drove it back around at almost full speed. It was a rough weekend for Miller overall, he crashed before qualifying forcing him to race his backup truck and take a provisional to make the field. He was already many laps down when he had the hood issue. Boris Said has an extensive road racing background so its no surprise he qualified well and led some laps early in this one. Unfortunately a good finish wasn't in the cards, the Federated Auto Parts' #44 F-150 broke the rear axle on the lap 29 restart while Said was still running in fourth place. He had to go to the pits for an extended stop to repair it but they would get him back out. Rich Bickle came into this race with a solid 102-point lead in the championship standings before a late mechanical failure dealt his title hopes a big hit. Jack Sprague's runner-up finish helped him lob off three-fourths of Bickle's advantage, he'd take even more off during the next race at IRP. Brian Cunningham was another driver who got some assistant from a relief driver, in his case former series regular Doug George hopped in to take over his #57 Ford. Cunningham was sick all weekend and actually collapsed from heat exhaustion after he got out of the truck. 10. They had an issue with an extremely hot day at Gateway the day earlier that was the longest race in NASCAR Busch Series history(until Montreal in '09), and this day, temps were around 95-100 degrees and humidity made it feel near 110. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
