(Sorry, had to do it) NASCAR's 50th Anniversary season kicked off with a strange first lap that saw Ron Hornaday and pole sitter Chuck Bown battle for the lead and run each other into the infield grass momentarily. 3. biffle16 posted: 12.12.2006 - 9:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Biffle's first truck start!!! 4. Unfortunaly Bliss runs out of fuel during the ensuing caution and Hornaday gets an easy win. 6. Joe Ruttman moved over to the #99 to finish the year while Chuck Bown lost his ride at Roush despite his pole here. 11. Anybody know who the broadcast crew for ESPN was? I'm assuming Marty Reid did the lap-by-lap, but...? 12. John P posted: 04.05.2009 - 3:00 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Marty Reid was on Pit Road. He was joined by Randy Tolsma, Tammy Jo Kirk and Bobby Hamilton in the transfer spots. 16. 44andJoe posted: 12.11.2012 - 1:01 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #61 sponsor: Dole/IWX Motor Freight 17. 83andJoe posted: 06.24.2013 - 10:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #84 crew chief: Gary Showalter 18. 83andJoe posted: 07.06.2013 - 3:30 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #61 crew chief: Dave Fuge (same for all races this year) 19. 83andJoe posted: 07.06.2013 - 5:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #5 crew chief: Cal Northrop 20. It was the first NASCAR race in which Bown led over 100 laps in over four years (1993 Busch Series race at Rougemont). Joe Ruttman replaced Bown in the #99 Roush truck following this race, and would go on to win one race and finish 3rd in the 1998 Truck standings. Bown ran just eight more Truck races in 1998, but never led another lap that season and would be out of NASCAR altogether just 17 months later. 21. 83andJoe posted: 09.05.2013 - 1:42 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #55 crew chief: Ernie Cope (same for all races this year through race #19 at Louisville, except race #5 at Evergreen). 22. 83andJoe posted: 09.13.2013 - 7:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) David Starr DNQ'd the #9, not the #49. 23. 23andJoe posted: 09.19.2014 - 4:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #7 sponsor: Purvis Brothers Ford #9 sponsor: Reher-Morrison Motorsports #24 sponsor: Quaker State #30 sponsor: Sasser-Fogleman & Associates #7 owner: Jim Mattei (was Mattei Motorsports at this race, Clark taking over the number afterwards) 24. While the team gave the Ram its first win in the series the year before and its debut with the F-150 here was average the move would move off a lot later in the season. 29. Jimnsimforever posted: 03.18.2020 - 7:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Although the Hendrick #24 driven by Jack Sprague was decked out in its familiar green Quaker State scheme, they were without a sponsor in this race and nearly half of the 98 season. They left them on the truck for this race to show their thanks for them being a good sponsor for the previous 2 seasons even though they weren't paid a dime for the race. It's hard to believe that the reigning champions lost their sponsor and couldn't find one for so long. 30. 23andJoe posted: 04.24.2020 - 9:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Correcting myself from seven years ago - David Starr was in the #49 as seen in the broadcast of the LCQ. 31. He bought Geoffrey Bodine's team (makes sense that Geoffrey's son drove the truck in 1998, because Geoffrey drove the Cup car.) Then, Michael Waltrip drove the #7 in 1999 and 2000. He sold his team to Jim Smith after the Dover race in 2000, and it became Ultra Motorsports. This team had 6 different owners throughout its existence. Mattei was the 4th. 35. The firesuits they used previously debuted at the 1994 Winston Select 500 at Talladega. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
