Jerry Cook's #8 PBA Chevrolet was indeed identical in appearance to brother Terry's #88 in all but digit. 6. 23andJoe posted: 03.02.2017 - 1:07 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) That was a common practice in both Trucks and Busch in those days, particuarly at events like the BGN races at Pikes Peak. It was a fun game trying to guess who would roll out the backup car and take a hair-dryer to one of the number decals to peel it off (or add a little paint to make, say, "38" into "88"). 7. rm posted: 03.02.2017 - 9:11 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Happened a lot at Nazareth too in the 90s/2000s. Mile+ tracks that are a long way to travel for smaller teams and with a low purse wasn't worth the risk to those small teams. The teams that did make the trip, like you mentioned, often parked the backup car after running just a couple laps. 8. Good timing here to thank them for it with a victory. Kevin Harvick picks up his third top-5 of the season as the series visits his hometrack. Harvick was a busy guy as he ran in four different classes of competition at Mesa Marin during the weekend, winning a NASCAR Southwest Tour series race in the lead up to this one. Brandon Sperling, an ASA standout, makes his second and final Truck series start, turning in a career-best finish in 18th. He withdrew from the following race at Phoenix then went back to ASA full-time for 1999. TNN broadcast this one. The announcers for the race were an interesting combination with the legendary Ken Squire joined in the booth by the active but out of a ride Truck series racer Chuck Bown. 10. I believe it was Auggie Vidovich who had to be helped to the ambulance by two men, but it could've been Bill Sedgwick because their trucks were so close together. Boris Said was knocked out cold for a bit by the impact. They interviewed him after he had some time to recover and he said he felt like he'd been punched by Mike Tyson, then had to stop the interview because he was feeling woozy. The 9th caution was strange. Part of a wood billboard on the backstretch fell down onto the track. Unfortunately for the company that paid to have it up there, the part that fell down had the last 4 digits of the phone number to call them on it while the television cameras were focusing in on it for a while to show what happened. Randy Tolsma worked out a deal to drive the #78 truck for the last 3 races and was hoping to stay in the top ten in points. He qualified and was listed in the starting grid but his truck wasn't out there and was not in the pits either. They did interview him later and he said they'd had engine problems earlier in the morning and no way to fix them before the race started. 11.
