I know Carelli got hurt and Randy Renfrow was filling in but I don't see the team running after this. I thought the RE/MAX sponsorship was big for trucks, they leave and the team close? 5. My understanding was that he and Rick were very close, so when Rick got hurt, his heart just stopped being in it anymore. 6. It was discontinued and they would not return until 2003 with the new format of an August race to tie-in with the Cup/Busch night races. Ironic the Chesrown's team's last race was the same event they won with Carelli in 1996 in their first start for RE/MAX. 7. Ron Hornaday who usually dominated Bristol had a terrible qualifying run when he got loose in the turn and had to select a pit stall on the back stretch. Back then because of the way the cautions were designed not as 1 big pit road but 2, this was the dagger into his race before it even began. He was never a factor. Carl Long qualified an impressive 9th for this event and would stay in the top 15 for a good long time, however he would spin on lap 83 and would stall trying to refire the truck ending his great night. He would later stall again on a later caution The race really took a controversial turn with 15 laps to go. While leading Jay Sauter was under heavy heat from Jimmy Hensley who was noticeably faster than Sauter. Going into the turn Jimmy just tapped the rear bumper of Sauter sending him for a spin. NASCAR incredibly black flagged Hensley for the lead changing spin for rough driving/intentionally spinning Sauter. This put the fast Hensley to the back of the longest line relinquishing his lead and likely win to Sprague. Sauter went on to say post race even he thought the spin was not intentional and it was merely "Bristol Racing". This set up the story for the closing laps. Where Sprague was uncontested for the win, the drama was further back where Mike Wallace and the now fast Sauter with fresh tires was trying to get by for around 5th spot on the last lap. Wallace was doing his best to block on the last lap but Sauter saw a run going into the turn and he wasnt going to let up. Inevitably the 2 made contact sending Wallace into a big crash into the turn collecting Hensley. Wallace was not happy. He drove up to Sauter's truck post race and the 2 crews went on to have a heated argument on pit road. Wallace went on to say "Hey they say these drivers and trucks are tough, we will see that in the future" or something along those lines. 9. He truly didn't want to see his friend start racing again out of concern another crash could kill him and given the severity of Rick's injury, a full-on basilar skull fracture, it isn't hard to blame Marshall for that decision. The move didn't work as Carelli came back in the Truck series full-time the following season anyway and indeed went on to win in the series again. 11.
