I read somewhere that one of the CTS races here was wet, and this has the lowest pole speed... 2. This left Fellows basically uncontested as a road course ringer. But this race wasnt exactly a cake walk. It was obvious he was the best truck but pit strategy always plays a role. Early on the race was more a battle of the trucks vs the Kitty Litter. Both Bliss and Hensley both got stuck in it in the bus stop chicane costing them basically their races and Greg Biffle, looking to repeat from Portland also nearly got stuck in it in turn 1 after running wide. The race featured 2 hard crashes into the styrofoam barriers. Kevin Cywinski who was 8th in points going into Portland further dropped down the standings after pounding the barriers coming off the outer loop after he lost control at high speed. Late in the race Marty Houston lost control similarly in turn 11 and pancaked it. The race for the lead late in the race was all about Fellows digging out of a pit strategy hole while Mike Wallace was looking to cling onto the lead from him. With 7 laps to go Fellows felt he needed a caution since he was almost the entire back straight behind Wallace. But with 3 laps to go he ate up that entire deficit and dispatched Wallace without much of a problem and ended up taking the win by over 3 seconds. The late Ted Christopher had a real shot at a solid top 10 for the part time 17 truck but sadly his truck faltered in the closing laps and spun and stalled on the first turn on the last lap putting him 18th 3.
