NA$CAR(LOL!) still favors Hendrick, though. They always have :( 2. All of the reigning top-3 level NASCAR champions ran Superman schemes with Ron Hornaday running one here, Jeff Gordon running one in the Winston All-Star race, and Busch champion Dale Earnhardt Jr. running one in the fall at Phoenix. They were joined by reigning NHRA champions John Force (Funny Car), Warren Johnson (Pro Stock) and Matt Hines (Pro Stock Bike) plus World of Outlaws champion Steve Kinser (who drove his in the Knoxville Nationals). Also involved in the promotion were CART racer Jimmy Vasser (defending champion Alex Zanardi moved up to F1 and was unavailable) and NHRA Top Fuel racer Joe Amato (defending champion Gary Scelzi probably wasn't involved because this was a diecast deal and he was sponsored by un-kid friendly Winston at the time). The drivers all made an appearence in a Superman comic as a tie-in. In the race itself Hornaday was indeed "faster than a speeding bullet" with his truck looking "more powerful than a locomotive" as he led the first 84 laps of the race until he pitted under green and was shuffled back. Perhaps Lex Luthor eventually found the Kryptonite as Hornaday's day ended when he looped it in front of Jay Sauter in middle portion of the race, triggering a multi-truck accident in which he was hit by Kevin Harvick then got the inside wall totalling the #16 Chevrolet. Andy Houston was also involved when he hit the out of control Sauter sending the Wisconsin racer into a full-on spin. Sauter rallied back from his problems to finish in the top-5. Scott Hansen got a lap back because of the melee and similarly went on to a top-5. This was the last time Ron Barfield, Jr. led a Truck series race. 5. Jeff Andretti, Ron Barfield, Ron Hornaday, Ronnie Hoover (making his first and only start) and Jerry Miller (making his debut) all had pretty significant impacts with the wall in this event. As RaceFanX stated, Ron Hornaday had quite the SuperTruck in this event, that was until he wiped out after the kink on the front stretch. Once Hornaday was out of the way, it became the Roush brigade up front. Biffle and Bliss tag teamed leading laps to make sure everyone got bonus points. The 2 would battle but Biffle eventually was able to take control of the race and claim his season leading 4th victory of the season, in the blazing heat of the Pennsylvania mid-summer. Once again Mike Wallace found himself the victim of last lap contact, this time with Jack Sprague. Wallace, not at all happy with Sprague exclaimed that this is the reason that Sprague was not getting a coveted Cup ride. And much like NASCAR penalizing Hensley at Bristol and Houston at Texas, they would penalize Sprague for rough driving here, dropping him from 4th to 13th. Scott Hansen, who was told that should sponsorship not be found for 2000, the 52 team may not be back, ran to a top 3 finish after being a lap down earlier in the event. As far as why David Starr was in the 0 truck, its likely due to the Sonntag Racing #73 not having funding to run this race. It had been reported earlier in the year that they were needing more funding, so Reynard McGlynn likely saw Starr without a ride and gave him a 2nd truck to run as a placeholder 9. He was having a solid run in the 2nd half of the race, but not really troubling anyone above 8th-9th. Late race incidents and others' fading tires put him up to 6th on the final restart, where he was down the backstretch on lap 199. Then Sprague being Sprague, he took out Mike Wallace and being in the process of passing Marty Houston, Hansen arrived at the smokescreen without having to check up too badly and flew by both the involved as well as Houston who had to slow down. It turned out to be the best finish by far for Hansen and the best for Ken's truck team since 1997. 12.
