First, on Saturday NASCAR gave Jack Sprague the championship. Then on Sunday, Greg Moore died in the CART(now Champ Car)race in a horrific crash on the backstretch. 2. Darrell posted: 12.31.2005 - 3:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) How did NASCAR give Sprague the championship? The ending was confusing but I don't know how they gave it to him. I just remember wanting Biffle to win because he hadn't won it before.(Of course, this was long before I knew what a jerk he was.) This race kind of reminds me of the Atlanta Cup race of 1992. 3 drivers can win the championship, one of whom(Sprague : Elliott) is a former champion and another (Setzer : Allison) crashes and ends their championship hopes. 3. Thomas posted: 02.01.2006 - 7:54 am Rate this comment: (2) (1) They gave it to Sprague because they penalized Biffle 120 points after he won at Las Vegas for a dubious 1/8 inch carb spacer infraction in the intake manifold. The major punishment did not fit the minor crime. It was the same with a 46 point penalty due to a carb spacer for Mark Martin at Rockingham in 1990 and with a 25 point penalty for a marginal spring discrepancy at the same track in 2002. NASCAR doesn't like Roush and Ford for some reason (I know you don't like Ford either, Darrell, and if you want a jerk, look no further than Sprague, my friend), but they love Chevrolet and Hendrick because they allowed Jeff Gordon to get away with a similar infraction at Charlotte in October 1995. They claimed they didn't want to "affect the championship" by imposing a point penalty. They just fined crew chief Ray Evernham $50,000. NASCAR and its corrupt appeal board have clearly given Hendrick Motorsports breaks that they don't give other teams. If you want any more examples, tell me and I will be glad to tell you. 4. J. Of course, that was before he shoved poor Scott Wimmer out of his way to win at Milwaukee. Thomas, how is Jack Sprague a jerk? 6. Darrell posted: 12.27.2006 - 7:13 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Perhaps what I remember most about this race was the huge driver/team shuffling that went on for this race. Ken Schrader replaces Scott Hansen in his #52 truck. Hansen doesn't run top-level NASCAR again until 2001. Butch Miller comes out of the Busch Series to replace Ron Barfield in the 55. Barfield then drives the #42 for Rick McCray. The same thing happened here the next year too! 7. How anyone could hate a NASCAR TEAM that much is WAY beyond my understanding. All I know is that it's disgusting. 8. The Real Thomas posted: 06.11.2007 - 7:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (2) I just said it was a depressing weekend. I didn't say it was COMPARABLE to Greg Moore dying. It must be easy to be ignorant and not listen to what people are actually trying to say when you're behind the shield of a computer screen. Do you act this dense in real life? It also is interesting that you won't even say what you're name is. Steve, what year was it that Biffle "shoved" Wimmer out of the way at Milwaukee. If it was after Darlington 2001, then what goes around comes around. 9. He was blocking Biffle all over the backstretch on the final lap and prevented Biffle from gaining any more positions. Then Hornaday joined Sprague in the tri-oval grass to celebrate. 10. Hornaday and the NAPA team moved up to the Busch series to become the new #3 Busch series team (the old one became Junior's #8 Cup team) and they actually did really well once there. The Truck team eventually became the Daytona 500-winning #15 Chevrolet in Cup for 2001 albeit without Hornaday who moved on for a Winston Cup deal with A.J. Foyt. 16. ch posted: 07.24.2013 - 2:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #29 Owner: Bob Keselowski (Teammate to the #1) 17. RCR left the trucks after 1999. The team was sold to John Menard who kept the #3 and hired Bryan Reffner to drive it in 2000. RCR didn't return to the Truck series for a decade until Austin Dillon's debut in 2009. With RCR's #3 and DEI's #16 leaving the series and Marshall Chesrown's #6 team hanging it up the series 1999 and this race were sort of the end of the first era of the Truck Series. The new one would begin with the start of the 2000 season and the series' first visit to Daytona. 18. And 1/8" larger opening on the carb spacer is a HUGE advantage in the power department. 24.
