His truck was totally battered and the wounded Bodine went to hospital. 2. NASCARManaic posted: 01.24.2005 - 9:03 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) This was the largest NCTS wreck ever!!! 3. His truck erupted in a massive fireball and he flipped down the frontstretch, during this time he was slammed by another truck. He was injured as well as 11 fans. 4. Christopher Cßdiz posted: 08.22.2005 - 3:46 am Rate this comment: (5) (0) He didn't "get loose." Kurt Busch tried to poke between Rick Crawford and Lyndon Amick in the trioval. Busch's right front fender made contact with Crawford's left rear fender, causing him to make contact with Amick's right side. This sent both Amick and Crawford up the track and colliding with Bodine. The impact sent the front of his truck airborne, which then caught onto the protective fencing. The explosion then ensued. 5. ESPN switched to a damn golf match and put the end of the race on ESPN2 and I missed it. 6. bfcxbcvn posted: 12.17.2005 - 10:20 pm Rate this comment: (3) (1) Kurt Busch has done stoupid things in his carrer. 7. I remember having the day off from school and watching this live...I really thought that Geoffrey Bodine was killed not to mention some of the spectators along the fence. There was simply nothing left of the truck, the driver's cockpit was barely intact and the engine was severed off and stopped a few hundred yards down the track from the truck itself. The only thing you can really say is that it wasn't Bodine's time to go, but wow he missed a great opportunity. It's too bad the race itself will be remembered for that (but how could it not) because the Trucks at Daytona put on a great show of drafting and passing. Great drive by Mike Wallace to score the historical win. 8. I drove up to Daytona thinking hope I hope die here skipping work and there I was at the fence trying to get on stupid tv. I saw smoke and said cool they are wrecking should get on tv now and then I saw flames and thought they were driving into the stands so ran not far because guard rail in front of me but was ok you can see me in the highlights running and got few debris like bolts and roll cage foam rubber from truck. 11. mcmurrayfan posted: 06.25.2006 - 5:00 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Best career finishes for Kenny Martin (5th) and Randy MacDonald (6th). 12. I was amazed that he was conscious when they got him out of what was left of his truck and loaded into the ambulance. 20. If my memory is correct, I believe the stupid boneheaded Kurt Bu$ch caused the darn WRECK. I wonder if KURT BUSCH is Swervin Irvan's son? 21. The Gloy/Rahal team lost their sponsorship, and he was basically on his own this year, as the booth commentators said. 25. jeff posted: 04.19.2008 - 12:31 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also overshadowed by Bodine's crash was an earlier wild wreck involving Bobby Hamilton, Randy Renfrow, Randy Tolsma, and a few others in which Renfrow nearly flipped when he got clipped by a spinning Hamilton. Renfrow's truck skidded across the tri-oval grass by pit exit on two-wheels, nearly on it's side. 26. samfan08 posted: 05.18.2008 - 7:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Kurt Busch tried to poke between Rick Crawford and Lyndon Amick in the trioval." Crawford was already out of the race from a lap 13 wreck. I thought Bodine was dead, that was probably the worst crash I've seen in a NASCAR race. 27. This was Crawford's first race with Milwaukee Tool as his sponsor 29. Madison posted: 12.24.2009 - 12:44 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Looking at the video live as it happened, what happened looks like this: Rob Morgan (not Rick Crawford) appears to move down in front of Kurt Busch. Morgan is then sent into Lyndon Amick's car. Then those two cars hit Bodine and the front wheels of his car got airborne. He hit the fence and the explosion occurred. He then starts flipping, and is hit again by what looks to be a blue truck. I'm not a big fan of him, but it doesn't seem Kurt caused the wreck. 30. I was 4 when this happened but thanks to YouTube. I have been catching up. 36. 88&4Fan posted: 08.04.2015 - 8:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) If my memory serves me correctly, I think they took the plates off the trucks for this race. Anyway, Bodine's wreck is quite possibly the worst crash in the history of NASCAR. Definitely the worst one I've ever seen (there were probably some worse wrecks back in the 50s and 60s which is why I say possibly). 37. 88&4Fan posted: 08.04.2015 - 8:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Worst wreck in truck series history, thats for sure. 38. For reference, Kaz Grala's pole winning time in 2017 at this race would have only been good enough for 24th on the starting grid. The slowest truck to take time in 2000, the 71, would have still posted a faster time than 4 trucks that attempted to qualify in 2017. 40. Mike Cope had an engine problem and laid down some oil going into turn one. Kurt hit the oil and started to spin, hit the apron and the car shot back across the track and hit the wall almost head on. Considering this was the pre HANS/pre SAFER barrier era Kurt was very fortunate to not be seriously injured or worse. Per the race broadcast the truck Kurt ended up finishing 2nd in this race was the truck they were planning on running the following race at Homestead with. 42.
