Greatest live NASCAR Truck moment ever. 2. Darrell posted: 02.09.2007 - 11:58 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Oh yeah, fantastic run for Lyndon Amick as well. I really think he'd have done a great job in the Trucks. 3. RaceFanX posted: 12.05.2007 - 1:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) NASCAR debut of Mark Petty, Maurice's son. I think Mark's reason for getting into racing was because he had been in it and gotten out of it earlier. Susposedly, Lee asked Mark on his deathbed why he ever gave up driving but I can't confirm that. 4. Dodge posted: 07.29.2011 - 8:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think the question about why two #23's is easily a mistake. Morgan Shepherd was running his own truck and was using the #21. As a result, I believe it may of been an error somewhere. 7. ericthenau posted: 05.15.2013 - 6:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Actually, what Dodge posted in the last comment is incorrect. Morgan Shepherd did not run his own truck team until 2001, but according to sources about this race, he WAS the driver that DNQed in the #23, not Phil Bonifield. Thus, Phil Bonifield did not DNQ for this race, and Morgan Shepherd was the driver who failed to qualify the #23 car. Bobby Hillis in the #05 also DNQed this race as well. 8. The USAC ace qualified great, and had Michael Waltrip's pit crew to service his pickup, but his hot F-150 done blew up and doomed him to a poor finish. This was his only start of 2000 and Leffler didn't run another Truck race until Smith gave him the keys to the #2 full-time in 2002. 12. Bramblegrunt posted: 02.08.2018 - 5:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Definitely wouldnt call this a boring race but it was one that was clearly dominated by Joe Ruttman. But as the IRP races go, there was enough beating and banging to fill the appetite of any fan of short tracks. The race featured a higher than average number of cautions for the track and thats probably why the overall action was less memorable than other years as well. Ruttman, though dominant, was on the verge of losing this race when his ignition failed with 4 laps to go but he was fast to turn on the backup and he didnt lose much time to Amick during the exchange. Jamie McMurray continued to garner a lot of attention for another great run for a smaller team, claiming 3rd. Dennis Setzer and Randy Tolsma both claim top 10s after recovering from spins. Carlos Contreras remarkably also finished this race. It was remarkable because the lap 88 crash had Rick Crawford literally climb on top of the right side of his truck. And one other little factoid. ESPN announced that pit reporter Amy East was "no longer on the market" and was engaged. They didnt say to whom. Turns out it was to the man she was interviewing after his accident on lap 149, Terry Cook 14. Of the 110 currently allotted numbers in NASCAR, 69 in trucks is the only one yet to finish in at least the teens, marking it as the least successful of any in each of the national touring series. If I could be pardoned some predictable humor, that's not very.....Nice. 16. Rich posted: 09.19.2020 - 9:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Marty Reid and Ned Jarrett were the commentators.
