NASCAR raised its age limits after 2001 and that change locked Kyle out for a year, leading Roush to put together his ASA deal to get him some more experience in the interim. He left Roush, jumping ship before Kurt did, because he wanted to move up through the ranks faster than Jack wanted to bring him up so he took a deal with Hendrick. 12. In 27 truck series starts he struggled significantly, only finishing above 20th two times and DNQ'ing 16 times. His string of futility in the series included a hauler accident at Kentucky in 2002 that dealt a surprising amount of damage to his truck, pit box and crash cart. He also blew 3 engines due to plug wires in the motor not being properly attached. 14. The announcers warned about transmission and gear issues becoming a factor as the drivers experimented with shifting on the slow, flat racetrack, but this shocked them even! The team eventually found that the transmission linkage had locked up and that Tutt couldn't shift at all, sidelining him for over 50 laps. There are probably more fans in the stands for any given football game at your local high school than there were in attendance for this race. The jabs at the empty bleachers here are not exaggerated, at all. As for the quality of the race itself? Eh, definitely seen worse races. Not a lot of character to the track, but the Trucks can put on a good show just about anywhere they go. There's coming up just a little bit short on your fuel calculations, and then there's running out of gas with 12 to go like Kyle Busch did here. His crew chief said they'd be crossing the line on fumes if the last 25 laps stayed green, but instead Busch came to a halt after just 6 green flag laps and 11 more under yellow. 16.
