I was also there (haven't missed a Truck race since they opened the Kentucky Speedway), July 12, 2003. That's four days before my birthday. I saw Carl Edwards dominate the race, WIN, do a BACKFLIP off of the rear deck of the truck, . . . I have been a fan of Carl's ever since ! . . . my Wife usually takes me to the NASCAR Truck race at Kentucky every year for my birthday. 8. This was also the only time the "Gun Slinger" raced in this series at the wheel of a Ford F-150. 21. Edwards though was giving him plenty of pressure from behind. Much of the talk with 50 laps to go was if the race went green the rest of the way, who would be able to do the fuel run. Gaughan just needed 4 caution laps to be able to make it so even then he seemed like he had the race in hand. But with 40 laps to go, his engine suddenly sputtered causing him to spin. Edwards narrowly missed his spinning truck. All the talk before the race was Roush about to make a big announcement about their truck program which was largely underfunded so both Wood and Edwards appeared to be racing for their jobs. Also there was a lot of talk prerace about how Wood came from the back to the front at Kansas to win and how he envied Edwards starting from the back this week because of how much he learned coming through the pack to make their truck that much better on adjustments. How funny Edwards did just as Wood did to win from the back after his engine change 22. Both times drawing even with Wayne Jacks series best set in 1995 of the top finish in truck history for the #58, a best which hasn't been broken or tied again since. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
