One took out hamilton and hmiel that were battling for the lead. On the last lap, David Starr puts the bumper to chad chaffin to win! 3. So, this was the last truck race where they had as many attempts as they needed to have the race end under caution and they used them in this race. This either proved the new rule was ridiculous or that the green-white-checker was a good idea depending on what side you are on. As for me, I think they were right in adding it to other series, but they ruined the uniqueness of the Truck Series by taking away the "more than one attempt" part of the rule for them. So, in the last "true" Trucks race what more could you ask for? Rick Crawford ends up on his side after a crash, then in almost an instant replay, Shane Hmiel gets on his side after contact with Bobby Hamilton. Hmiel and Hamilton were still locked together after the wreck and Hamilton continued to punch the gas, sending them slowly into the inside wall. Bobby claims his throttle was stuck (throat clear). Then in a great last lap battle, David Starr becomes victim to the "bump and run" administered by Chad Chaffin who wins his second career race. 5. So we have a green/white/checkered. No big deal, it's the Craftsman Truck Series; it happens. On the restart, Chase Montgomery and Terry Cook spin, Terry hits the wall, and collects Robert Huffman. Another g/w/c attempt. Coming out of Turn 2, Bobby Hamilton gets to the outside of the leader Shane Hmiel, but Shane gets loose and up into Bobby, nearly flipping the #4 truck on its side. Another g-w-c! But Andy Houston gets loose under Rick Crawford (much like the Shane Hmiel/Bobby Hamilton wreck), but Rick Crawford is not so lucky, as his truck gets on its side down the backstretch. One more try! On the final lap in Turns 1 & 2 David Starr gives leader Chad Chaffin a small bump, gets him a little sideways, and David "Starrs" in Victory Lane! 6. 83andJoe posted: 07.08.2013 - 4:20 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #72 owner: Doc MacDonald 7. What a race though. 11. dalesrforever posted: 04.28.2016 - 7:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) the teams still here are the 13, 88, 63, and the 10 12. Its the #07 that is still there. 14. 48johnsonfan posted: 07.04.2017 - 1:15 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I was informed yesterday that YouTube user Dave W had recently acquired this race and other races including ARCA and Busch as I saw parts of the race on a livestream yesterday. So, hopefully soon, that this race will be on YouTube in it's entirety very soon. 15. rm posted: 03.28.2020 - 2:01 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Paul White's best finish in a Truck by far, the only top-20 and lead lap finish for the ThorSport driver in his 6-race Truck stint. Flipping, or even getting airborne, isn't impossible at Gateway (see: Ryan Fischer's flip) but it's far from a frequent occurrence. So of course Bobby Hamilton and Rick Crawford climbed the backstretch wall in back-to-back wrecks. To my knowledge, this hasn't happened in a Truck or Xfinity race at Gateway since then. Along the same lines: it's well-documented that this was the final race at the time that would allow multiple green-white-checkered attempts, and that they made sure to get a bunch in. But this is also one of just two Truck races at Gateway that had the race extended past the scheduled distance in 19 visits to the track. Xfinity has never had a race extended in their 15 events here. This also wasn't the track record for the longest a race was extended. In 2004, the ARCA race went an extra 22 laps past the scheduled distance. And in a similar vein to the above - that's the only ARCA race at Gateway that's seen a GWC finish to date, so they had to make sure it was spectacular. 16.
