Also, good runs for his teammate Andy Lally and Sean Murphy. First starts for Benny Gordon and Scotty Crockett. 2. Out front it got a little boring at times, but the action was great from 6th on back nearly all race long and then the three wide race from Turn 2 all the way to the stripe was much more exciting than anything I have seen in Cup this year(the new car blows). With 60 or so to go in the race Donny Lia just went on a tear. Him and Johnny Benson were easily the 2 fastest cars on the track all day long, and went it came to crunch time Lia just hit the gas and said I got to go so get out of my way. Very impressive first win for this cat here. And going back to what I said last week. Ron Hornaday can't drive and on top of that his is one of the biggest jerks in Nascar. He was roughing the leaders up to get out front and then got spun himself. He deserved it. I just with he would have finished 36th instead of 35th. Shoot David Starr had over 200 laps on his tires got tapped the same way and drove right through it. 9. Beating and banging all day long and then the most exicitng finish possibly of all time. Donny Lia gets into David Starr's rear quarterpanel into turn one and gets him loose, Todd Bodine shoots under both..they go 3 wide into turn 3..Bodine gets into Lia abit, but Lia prevails. WOW! WOW! WOW! CONGRATULATIONS DONNY LIA! YOU CAN DRIVE BUDDY! 10. Darrell posted: 05.25.2008 - 9:41 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Dirty punk driver? Shouldn't you be ecstatic that he beat the "Toyota rice mobiles"? Neither guy was wrecked, Starr said it was a clean move. And Bodine's wrecked a number of guys, so his opinion really doesn't matter. 11. most posted: 05.25.2008 - 10:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) What a shocker! Biggest shock since David Gilliland won at KY! Good to see the lettle teams win every now and then. Hopefully he doesn't become another Brandon Whitt! 12. Great job by Lia to pull that out. Definitely not a dirty move. He didn't actually spin anyone, he didn't bump Starr in the turn, and he was going for the win. That would have been different if it were a battle for 10th, but he did what he had to do to win this. 14. The Real Thomas posted: 05.27.2008 - 3:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Now that you mention it, Darrell, I am glad a ricemobile didn't win! LOL! However, David Starr's from Houston, near where I live, and I know his niece, so I'm pissed he lost, even though he drives a Toyota. 15. DM08 posted: 05.28.2008 - 8:47 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Darrell- David Starr never called it clean once. He certainly was a class act about it, though. Todd Bodine doesn't have room to talk, but he was right. Donny Lia has a bad reputation around a lot of the northeast with how he raced people on a local level. When he couldn't win, he flat out wrecked people for it. Not many people respect that. 16. I love Japan, and honestly, calling a Toyota a Ricemobie isn't going to offend me or my girlfriend. We will accept this as a compliment. Now Toyata is not that bad. Sure, we need to get rid of Bonehead Waltrip, but we ain't bad. We are geting better each race. Also, I'm not a traitor to America, but I still do like Japan. Instead of insulting Japan and Japan insulting the US, how about we show respect towards one another, fall in love with all the cars, and watch a unheralded driver like Donny Lia shock the world, and win a great race. Lia is a great talent, and one day, he will be a Sprint Cup Star. 20. Anonymous posted: 06.21.2008 - 5:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) lol, "we" 21. The Real Thomas posted: 06.29.2008 - 12:27 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't really hate Toyota because they are from Japan. I hate them because of their monopolization and manipulation tactics. I don't like it when one manufacturer can outspend everyone else and get an unfair lopsided horsepower advantage in all three series. It's ridiculous when a team can simply get all of its engines and transmissions from a major auto manufacturer and not have to build in-house or buy from an independent like Pro Motors. It's not sports car racing, it's NASCAR. I'm not talking about factory support, that is what NASCAR was made of. I'm talking about the unmitigated welfare of Toyota teams. That said, I repeat that I do not hate them for being from Japan. However, it does tarnish NASCAR to have a non-American nameplate running full-time. Why? Because it's the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, not the International. NASCAR was built on American Muscle and it should have always remained that way. At the very least, the foriegn invaders should not be allowed to conduct a hostile takeover like they are now. 22. CFob posted: 07.19.2008 - 4:47 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) And how is Toyota's monopolization any different than what the big three have been doing for decades? Plus more Toyota's are made here than Chevy's. WTG Lia, a classic finish. 23. nascarman posted: 07.20.2008 - 8:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Great qualifing and race for Lally. Too bad he can't find a sponsor. 24. The Real Thomas posted: 07.25.2008 - 5:39 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It's totally different than the big three. None of them have spent the kind of money (or even had that kind of money to spend) in racing than Toyota has. When it was a battle between the big three, you waited until one of them came up with something better to beat one of the others. Now that doesn't happen since they can't produce anything better due to the economy. And so what if they make Toyotas here. Most of the profits go to Japan and therefore they don't really help the American economy except through employment (which is big, but is negated due to the exporting of profits.) If it weren't for the damn unions, the big three would still make most of their cars here and wouldn't have to go overseas for cheap labor. 25. CFob posted: 07.29.2008 - 9:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Well if they are spending all this money on auto racing... isn't it being pumped back into the American economy? You anti-Toyota nuts have the least logical arguments ever. 26. Rad83 posted: 08.07.2008 - 1:52 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I see no problem with us expanding our makes to include Japan. You know, the Big 3 have been there for ages. It's time for someone new. I have a word to describe you anti-Toyota posters: Xenophobic. BTW, great run for Shelby Howard. Awesome driver used to run well in ARCA. 27. WallaceFan posted: 09.21.2008 - 5:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 5 years from now people will look at this race and say.."DONNY LIA?! He won?" I dont think Lia will ever be anything more than a 10-20th place truck driver. Maybe a few busch races, cup is doubtful. But May 24,2008 Was his day. I will never forget how exciting this race was. Unbelivable. Best race ever. Period 28. Anonymous posted: 12.17.2008 - 11:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Last truck race at Mansfield Motorsports Park. 29. Anonymous posted: 12.12.2010 - 2:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) On the final lap, David Starr (11) leads Donny Lia (71) into Turn 1. Entering Turn 2, Lia taps Starr and gets him sideways, giving Todd Bodine (30) a chance to catch-up to Lia and Starr. Entering Turn 3, Bodine gets sideways and loses ground to the leaders. Exiting Turn 4, Starr makes contact with Lia's, right rear quarter panel and gets loose all over the place, giving Lia the win. Donny Lia wins his 1st career Craftsman Truck race, 1st of 2008 (obviously), by 241/1000ths of a second ahead of David Starr. 35. My #1 is a World of Outlaws race at Attica when they had 3 different leaders from entry turn three to exit turn four! And that's on a tiny third mile track. Donny Shatz won beating local favorite Tim Schaefer. I wish this site had world of outlaws stats and discussion too!!! 37. They have made the sport so boring to watch with the same mile and half tracks. The season regulars don't stand a chance even racing for the lead unless circumstances fall their way. That's even if they have good equipment. Examples are Darrell Wallace. Even those rare occasions are now so far and few in between it's not worth spending your Saturday afternoons anymore. It's sorta like watching if a NBA team came down, played against a college team. Why would you watch when you already know what the outcome will be 46.
