With how tight the points battle is, it wasn't a smart move. 4. Jimmy John posted: 10.26.2008 - 10:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) T.J Bell's scored his 5th top 10 in a row. I didn't think it was possible but a Chase in this series would make the points battle even more exciting than it already is. Here's how the Chase standings would look after 7 of 10 races: 1 Ron Hornaday 6107 2 Johnny Benson 6103 3 Todd Bodine 6099 4 Erik Darnell 6016 5 Rick Crawford 5973 6 Dennis Setzer 5962 7 Mike Skinner 5955 8 Matt Crafton 5867 9 Chad McCumbee 5863 10 Jack Sprague 5840 11 Terry Cook 5702 12 David Starr 5694 5. I can't believe Jack Sprague couldn't win in the truck all season but Newman steps into it and he wins. Had it not been for Kyle Busch's idiot move at Martinsville in the spring, Johnny would have a 51 point lead now. 6. I know he won 3 championships and a lot of races, but the lion's share of that came in Hendrick's trucks, and everything Hendrick has touched since the mid 90's has turned to gold (except Tony Eury Jr). Hell, they even made Brian Vickers into a Busch Series champion. But once Sprague stepped out of a transcendently great truck, he hasn't been the same. Way too many mistakes on his part. Bronco, that is true that Pee Wee Busch spun Benson on the last lap at Martinsville, but he also spun Hornaday on the last lap at Michigan, so they are even there. 8. Yeah, right. Of course you couldn't tell Newman to back off but at the same time, Harvick shouldn't add good competition to the field to drive against Hornaday. That doesn't help their championship chances. 9. Anyways, I enjoyed watching this race, especially the last seven laps. I have a sneaking suspicion that Newman saved his stuff for the final run, as he had a very fast truck throughout the race. 11. Man I wish the trucks would come back in 2014. 12. I know that 5 is more than 4, but it still isn't very big difference - champ like a champ. 14. GoPM27 posted: 04.19.2017 - 8:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @#12 Perhaps if he hadn't ran out of gas at Martinsville, he would have won the championship. Or a myriad of other factors. I also don't see this "many" that "alluded" that Newman beating Hornaday cost him the championship, especially considering three races were left. 15. most1305 posted: 04.19.2017 - 9:22 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ron lost a title in 2008 but he also took one from Mike Skinner the year before that maybe he lucked into so I guess it balanced out. 16.
