I bet Hornaday wishes he had those ten points from Newman last week lol. Should be a good battle all the way, but I give the advantage to Johnny for his recent wins at Phoenix and Homestead. 2. Nor could they manipulate it to allow Dale Jr. into championship contention. 5. Dodge posted: 11.05.2008 - 7:40 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) Hey Kit, for once I agree with you. The Dale Jr. statement I agree with 100%. I never thought that Dale was anything special as a driver. The reason he has fans and a great ride is because of his name. Kerry never got that chance because he had a family he had to take care of so he couldn't really take gambles. 6. Of course Dale Jr. had better equipment. If you mean you don't see Dale Jr. ever winning a championship, then yes, I see your point. 7. I don't think he could ever score more points than anyone else over 36 races. And even winning a Chase would be a stretch. Having to really bear down and focus like that over 10 intense weeks, I just don't think he's wired for it. I agree that the Chase was mainly made to give Jr a chance at the championship. Expanding it to 12 drivers was definitely for him (and he STILL missed it in '07!!). They say its because Kenseth won only one race in 2003 while cruising to the championship, but I don't think that is the entire reason. I think they saw Jr that year come close during the summer then crash himself out of of Charlotte (brakes my ass, he spun on his own and cooked the brakes himself), Chicago, and Dover and realized he can't stay focused for 10 months they way people like Kenseth, Gordon, and Johnson can. Ironically in its first year he committed two of his biggest mental goofs to date. He cussed in victory at Talladega THE SAME YEAR THEY MADE A BIG FUSS ABOUT NOT CUSSING, then crashed himself out of Atlanta after Busch and Gordon had mechanical issues earlier. If he does get one, it will be luck. 9. Kit posted: 11.07.2008 - 2:03 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) He's won on too many different varieties of tracks to be considered just "decent." 10. In 2005 if I'm not mistaken Dale Jr. and Jeff both missed the cha$e, but Jeff was in 11th while Dale Jr. was in 15th or something. Of course he missed it in 2007, lol what else do you expect when your engines blow up every week and your luck is so bad? At Richmond before the cha$e he was running in the top five when his engine blew with 6 laps to go. If he does get one it will be luck? Well obviously - you need to have some degree of luck to win the championship, that's how Kurt did it in 2004. The cha$e was created because of the 2003 championship, the twelve driver rule was created because of Gordon. 11. But I think they also thought Jr would never be that low down the points again (wrong!) and I think they saw him teeter on missing it again in '06 despite a solid (for him) year. It is all about star power for NASCAR, competition be damned. I also agree that 2004 was pretty lucky for Kurt. But to me, the biggest thing he had going for him was Jimmy Fenning. Jimmy was able to handle him somewhat, at least enough to be the best over 10 races. He was actually able to harness Kurt's talent over his temper for quite a few wins and one 10 race championship. I think I've said this before, but that makes him a miracle worker. Look at Jurt since he left Jimmy. 13. 18fan posted: 11.08.2008 - 1:15 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) Kyle got screwed by NASCAR's extra restriction on the Toyotas. His truck handled way better the Hornaday's but Hornaday had more power down the straights. Michael Waltrip is horrible in the booth. 14. Max Papis on the other hand has became a Truck series regular for 2011. 15. Steven posted: 04.04.2014 - 9:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Proof that the chase WAS made for Gordon? Adding a 13th spot just for him in 2013. 16. Nascar Lead Lap Points posted: 05.24.2016 - 8:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Owner Update #07 Germain Racing (Same at Homestead) 17.
