I was really hoping he could put together a last minute deal. It sucks that guys who haven't been competitive in years like Cook, Starr and Compton are able to find sponsors but no one wants to step up and sponsor the most recent champion. Shame on Tom DeLoach and the entire Red Horse Racing marketing department for letting down a great driver and his fans. This wasn't a very exciting race but it's good to see Shrub get beaten especially by a first time winner. I also expect to see Matt Crafton win in the next few races with the way he's been running. 2. That's really some bad blood. 3. Willy on Wheels posted: 06.13.2009 - 11:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I admit Colin isn't a bad as a driver as I thought thanks to a win today. I was too hard on him. I will not bad mouth him for the next 3 months at least unless he starts to crash a lot in the next 3 months. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't bad mouth drivers like Scott Slow though. 4. Who wrecked who. 5. 18fan posted: 06.14.2009 - 12:07 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) Colin Braun joins David Reutimann as the worst driver to win their first race this year. He didn't even earn the win. He's a good driver, but he only took the lead from Kyle because Norm Benning cut off Kyle while Kyle was leading and Norm was multiple laps down. Brian Ickler won his first pole in his 5th career start and finished 3rd. Crafton holds the point lead. Skinner and Hornaday both had damaged Trucks and finished in the top 10. 6. Oh, bullshit, Bronco. This is a people-driven sport. Yes, it sucks what happened to Benson. He is one of my very favorite drivers and he should be in a top ride. But you honestly think a team is going to go up to a driver one morning and say, "well I'm sorry but we're letting you go because Johnny Benson just got released and he needs a new ride." Of course not. David Starr got sponsorship from Zachry because they are based out of Texas and so is David. They are a regional company and the sponsorship reflects that. The sport isn't so impersonal that sponsors will say, "You're not a champion so f*** you." The situation with Benson was bad at the beginning of the season. He hooked up with a team which wasn't that great to begin with. Plus I'm sure Cook had his sponsorship already lined up before the economic turmoil. Compton hasn't even run a full season since 1999. The only reason Starr hasn't been winning a lot lately is because he hasn't been driving for very strong teams since he left the #75. When his team provides him with a good truck, he'll get a top five finish. 7. dUDE gUY posted: 06.14.2009 - 2:20 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Braun lucked out when Norm Benning holds up Kyle Busch, but Braun was able to hold off Busch for the win. Braun also wins at Michigan from the farthest starting position. 8. NazRacePhan posted: 06.14.2009 - 7:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) Only 19 drivers finish the race?? Pitiful.... With GM's pullout of support for the CWTS... I think this series is pretty much done... especially since half the field runs Chevy.... 9. Neal posted: 06.14.2009 - 8:52 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bronco - Instead of bagging on Cook, Starr, and Compton, why not try venting your anger at a far more deserving driver? Those three haven't had much, if any, success at NASCAR's upper level. Meanwhile you have a whiny, greedy, self-righteous jackass like Kryle Douche taking up a seat that could go to someone far more deserving. Get mad at him. He shouldn't be in the truck series at all. 10. DaleSrFanForever posted: 06.14.2009 - 10:14 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Injury to insult. Johnny Benson, the defending Truck champion, loses his ride before his home race at Michigan. But he is a racer, so he doesn't just sit around, he enters a local race in Grand Rapids. What happens? He gets wrecked and has to go to the hospital. I hope he is alright. What a crappy week! He deserves way better. 11. DaleSrFanForever posted: 06.14.2009 - 10:22 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Dodge, the #10 car of James Beucher got loose and went right into the side of the #16 car sending them both hard into the wall. Later in the race Brian Ickler got loose, spun David Starr out, and caused a big melee. What do these two have in common? They are both proteges of Kyle Busch. Brian is Kyle's Truck teammate, and Beucher was in the ARCA race with Kyle spotting for him. They both drive like their mentor. 12. I'm just wondering why those sponsors would choose to back those drivers when they could sponsor the most recent truck champion and a guy who is a proven winner. The whole point of sponsorship is to run up front, and that's something Benson does better than those three. "Meanwhile you have a whiny, greedy, self-righteous jackass like Kryle Douche taking up a seat that could go to someone far more deserving. Get mad at him. He's a good driver, but he only took the lead from Kyle because Norm Benning cut off Kyle while Kyle was leading and Norm was multiple laps down." Colin held off Shrub for 24 laps didn't he? He could have choked and spun out but he didn't so he rightfully won the race. And btw, nothing stopped Shrub from passing Norm on the outside. If you want to talk about not earning wins, then Shrub definitely didn't earn the Talladega win last year. 1) He passed Johnson below the line and 2) the caution came out on the last lap, which prevented anyone from making the pass on him. 13. Dodge posted: 06.14.2009 - 10:43 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Thank you DSFF. Brian Scott put himself that far back though. He had one of the fastest trucks in practice but started so far back that that was a possibility that would happen though. Buescher is not a bad driver, just not enough experience. He is I believe only 18 or 19 years old as well. 14. Kit posted: 06.14.2009 - 6:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "That's not what I'm saying. They are sponsoring drivers that offer them the best marketing. Zachry is better served by Starr than anyone since Starr is from Texas. Plus the sponsors you mentioned were already committed to their drivers before the economy became a huge mess. It's pretty tough for even a champion like Benson to not only field a new, competitive team, but to also get a sponsor in the middle of a recession. This might be the cost of Benson's championship: in order to get a championship, he had to hook up with Bill Davis, who is no longer in the sport, and sequentially get screwed over this season. But yeah, like the poster above said, if you want to bash anyone, bash Kryle Busch. I haven't even followed the truck series much this season because I get tired of watching Busch. "But at least Shrub kicks ass in the truck series. He isn't just making laps like some of the other guys." Those other guys would be kicking ass if they were in the #51 truck. 15. DaleSrFanForever posted: 06.14.2009 - 7:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "The whole point of sponsorship is to run up front" Bronco, I get your point, and I totally agree with the PRINCIPLE behind it (although Starr, Cook, and Compton could win in top flight equipment). But unfortunately where you actually run in the race is becoming more and more inconsequencial to sponsorship packages. Do you think Amp, Mtn Dew, and the National Guard are disappointed with the way Dale Jr's season has gone? Of course not. He still gets the majority of the TV time (at least on FOX and ESPN). If anything, his struggles have given him even more attention. That is what they are looking for. Who can draw the most TV time whether it is good, bad, or ugly. Or how about all the attention geing given to Danica Patrick possible going to NASCAR? Sponsors would jump all over her if they had the chance (figuratively and literally). She has been mediocre at best in good equipment in the IRL. It has nothing to do with her driving ability. The telecast would follow her every move because she is a celebrity because of her racy (and incredibly hot) photo shoots and commercials. She would get a huge sponsorship deal. And you know the sponsors love Kyle Busch with all the attention he creates. Meanwhile somebody like Johnny Benson, a true racer who shows up, drives his ass off, acts professionally, doesn't start pointless controversy, and posts great results gets ignored for the most part. It's a crappy time we live in. 16. Kit posted: 06.15.2009 - 2:03 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It isn't getting any better either, DSFF. I can't even watch the truck series anymore without the Kryle Busch soap opera. 17. DaleSrFanForever posted: 06.15.2009 - 11:28 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I hate the way the commentators gush over him. "Wow, he has 50 more horsepower than anybody else out there and he is driving around all of them, can you believe it!?!?!" or "Wow, have you ever seen anything like this?!?!?!" Somebody get these guys some old tapes of Tim Richmond. Seriously, if you could get the 1986 Tim Richmond here to race Kyle in a match race with equal equipment, he would leave Kyle shitting in his panties. And he would be twice as exciting to watch. "Those other guys would be kicking ass if they were in the #51 truck." Exactly. It's amazing that he can't pass 7 cars at once in the Cup Series where everyone has equal equipment. What Gibbs and Toyota are doing in the lower series is sickening. Look at Joey Logano. He wins big time at Kentucky, then gets lapped at the huge Michigan track (one week after getting lapped at even bigger Pocono where Zippy bailed him out with great strategy). That just shows you how much of an advantage they have. 18. Dodge posted: 06.16.2009 - 12:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It has been reported that Brian Scott suffered a broken bone in his right wrist as a result of the accident. I did catch a replay and it looked like a racing deal. If those two hauler drivers got into it, then they should have charges to go on their record. 19. Justin Grosser posted: 06.16.2009 - 1:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Norm DID NOT cut Kyle off. Norm held his line on the bottom, just like the lapped trucks are supposed to. Kyle had every chance to go to the outside and be on his merry way. But no, he forced the issue to the inside. Norm was just minding his own business. Kyle went to the apron. Kyle definitely needs to make some better decisions in the heat of the battle. 20. The Blue Oval Boys pulled support of this series and since Roush shut down his Truck team at the start of 2010 and the Circle Bar team went under a few races later Fords have been few and far between in this series. Actually this is the last win for any brand besides Chevrolet or Toyota, Dodge hasn't won since Dennis Setzer took a win at Martinsville in the spring of 2008. 23.
