Only the third win for Red Horse Racing too. I believe the Jason White shown here is incorrect since he is American, not Canadian. 3. He has come up the hard way and showed today he can get it done. And I'm sure the Red Horse owners must love him for this since he got them off the hook for canning Benson in favor of him (although StrutMasters had a lot to do with that). 4. This win also puts more pressure on TJ Bell to run better I think. I don't how RHR releases Benson because of a lack of sponsorship, yet Bell has run unsponsored for most of the year. 5. One wasn't actually foreign, two were in sub par equipment several laps down, and the other was a lap down, struggling in a fendered machine. You're right... this is like Champ Car with tailgates... Now excuse me while I roll my eyes. 8. RCRandPenskeGuy posted: 10.25.2009 - 7:12 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Congrats to Timothy Peters! It's nice to see a new winner. 9. It was too bad since his championship hopes are over for this season. Since joining RHR Timothy Peters has a pole, a win, 4 top fives and 9 top tens with a 9.0 average finish in 13 races. He's gone from 19th to 7th in the standings over that stretch and is only 37 points behind Todd Bodine for 4th. Todd Bodine has 8 top fives this year, tied for 3rd best, but only 12th in top tens with 9. Some terrible luck has prevented him from contending for the championship but luckily Lumber Liquidators has come back to sponsor him. Colin Braun had his fifth 3rd place finish of the season. Kevin Harvick had his 6th top five in his last 6 starts in the Truck Series. Denny Hamlin finished 6th in his first Truck start of 2009, subbing in for Kyle Busch who was in Memphis for the Nationwide race. He came close to his first career Truck win which would've given him wins in all three national touring series. Dennis Setzer and the 8 team have only run 2 of the last 5 races. Setzer finished 7th, his 10th top ten of the year and the first time he's had at least 10 top tens in a season since 2006. David Starr also had his 10th top ten of the year, first time with 10 top tens since 2006 as well. Matt Crafton's 17 top tens tie a career high he set in 2004 with KHI. The only thing still missing from a career season for Crafton is a win. James Buescher was the ROTR with an 11th place finish. Johnny Sauter has run away with 2009 ROTY honours. And Canadian isn't exactly foreign, lol. I'm Canadian! BTW Wheeler Boys' father, Trevor, was a Cup driver in the 80's with over 102 career starts; he finished 17th in the standings in 1984 and his best career finish was 9th at Richmond in 1983, all driving for James Hylton. He has three career NASCAR West Series wins to his credit as well. 13. Talon64 posted: 10.27.2009 - 5:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Maybe a couple but Johnny Benson is an established driver who'll find a ride next year, maybe even back with RHR if they kick TJ Bell to the curb like they should and they get sponsorship. It was rumoured that Benson got the Conway sponsorship but that stayed with Roush and went with Colin Braun to Nationwide which was also deserving. But Timothy Peters needed this opportunity a lot more to prove himself and he's definitely done it, so as much as I like Johnny it was worth him losing his ride to get Peters the chance. 15. RHR has been an inconsistent team, I think that's why David Starr jumped ship. The global recession has gift wrapped Ron Hornaday a championship. Congratulations! 19. Anonymous posted: 10.29.2009 - 9:49 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Hornaday is losing all his sponsors. I'll look forward to seeing what the excuses will be next year when he's still dominating. Last year it was the tapered spacers. The year before that it was that he sabotaged Skinner's truck. Fact is the truck series hasn't been well funded sponsor wise since the 90's and now none of the teams have manufacturer support. Skinner, Bodine, and several others have enough funding to win a championship in this series. Quit acting like Johnny Benson was the only other driver on the track with funding and talent. 20. Dodge posted: 10.30.2009 - 8:43 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Funny thing though is that Benson didn't have a sponsor for a handful of races last year and he was still competitive. AND won a championship. 21. Anonymous posted: 10.30.2009 - 2:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Hornaday won twice in 2006 with no sponsor OR crew chief. 22. Sure, it may not be a Hornaday-type driver, but it still can be done that way. 23. UnderdogFan89 posted: 05.20.2014 - 7:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) DH101, the reason has to do with how NASCAR's numbering system works. Basically, NASCAR owns all the numbers, and team owners "lease" them, for lack of a better term. Since Peters switched rides part way through the year, the #17 technically belonged to his old owner, Steve Salling. RHR used the #17 throughout the year to keep consistency with Peters, as it was his old number. However, if you look on the owner's point standings for 2009, you'll see Peter's truck listed as #117. This is a way for NASCAR to say that while that team runs the #17, another owner has the rights to it. In this race, Salling had a truck entered, and as he had the "rights" to the #17, Peters and RHR had to use another number. In this case, they used a number that they had the "rights" to, the #1 that they used while Benson was driving. 27.
