This entire speedweeks has been incredible, and I hope the 500 is just as good! Driver of the race: Timothy Peters for preventing another 3-peat winner Reject of the Race: Nelson Piquet Jr, I don't need to explain. 2. Darrell posted: 02.14.2010 - 7:50 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Probably the most epic race I've seen in some time. At one point, Benson, Setzer, Bodine, Compton and White were all battling for the lead. Doesn't get much better. I like Bodine, but I wanted to see someone else win this one. Peters pulled the perfect move at the right time and was able to hold on. Hopefully Cassill and the Gill Truckscan keep running for the rest of the year. Cassill got caught up in something not of his own making, and Team Gill was up front for most of the race. Plus K&N would be crazy not to hook up with the 17 after this. 3. luigistarted06 posted: 02.14.2010 - 10:18 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Wow, what a race. Despite most trucks being out early in the race, the trucks that were in...they raced like hell. It was awesome to see Peters make that last lap pass, and really, if Jason White hadn't of been the one to poke out his nose on the back strech, Bodine would have probably just cruised to victory. Still a great race, and you know Bobby Hamilton Sr, the man who gave Peters his big break is was probably proud of him somewhere last night, that's for sure. Also congrats to Neuenberger, Yeley, Benson, Setzer among other feel good stories who finished in the top 10 Also the Austin Dillons accident looked eerily similar to Dale Srs. Turn 3, head on into the wall after his car suddenly jerked into the wall, being met by the yellow truck of Johhny Sauter who hit him in the side right as Dillons #3 hit the wall. It was just sort of scary, but luckily Dillon was ok 4. Cooper posted: 02.14.2010 - 10:34 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) another good truck finish! But the race was a wreckfest, with most discussion on bump drafting. The Truck's front and rear ends don't line up, so when there is contact, it cause trucks to lose control. Causing basically every accident. Nonetheless, Johnny Benson is one hell of a driver, and I can't understand why he always has trouble finding a ride? 5. With two wins, one at tiny little Martinsville and the other at gigantic Daytona, Timothy Peters is somebody who needs to be looked at. Jason White too. With what he has done in underfunded equipment, he also deserves a look. Kryle Busch once again shows no respect, getting in the leaders business while 18 laps down. Then he whines during the NWide race "Nobody wants to work with me". There is a reason for that, Pee Wee. 7. RaceFanX posted: 02.14.2010 - 10:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) With all the favorites except Bodine totalled early this race was almost certainly going to be upset and Timothy Peters delivered with his first Superspeedway win. Fan favorite and former Truck champion Ted Musgrave returned to NASCAR after a one-year absence. Musgrave was a victim of the early wrecks however and the Hope for Haiti Chevrolet was one of the first Trucks out. According to Musgrave this may be his only Truck race for 2010 unless he gets sponsorship for Atlanta. Jason White's first Truck series pole almost leads to his first win. His ex-Roush F-150 was one of the best of the night. Amazing run by Donnie Neuenberger to match his best Truck finish in 9th. Neuenberger ran as high as 2nd. NASCAR debut of ex-F1 racer Nelson Piquet Jr and he actually did pretty good. Like everyone in the lead pack Piquet could have won this race. He picked up a strong top-10 that easily could have been a top-5. On a pop culture note, Johnny Benson Jr's #95 F-150 had red and yellow lighting bolt paint job likely inspired by "Lightning McQueen" character from "Cars." The truck itself was the same one Colin Braun had sat on the pole in the previous Daytona truck race with. Kyle Busch's Truck was one of those damaged in the opening lap crash and wound up 18 laps behind early. Once the truck was back out Busch promptly proceeded to run with the leaders anyway, doing a bit of blocking for his Toyota commrades and almost causing at least one bump drafting related wreck. 8. Bronco posted: 02.14.2010 - 11:01 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) What a race. The finish was incredible, someone finally dethroned the superspeedway king himself. This race had the same number of lead changes as the last two Daytona truck races combined. Other than that, this race was a wreckfest because guys didn't know to bumpdraft properly. This was the first time the #3 graced the high banks of Daytona since Dale Earnhardt Jr won the Busch series season opener in 2002. Ted Musgrave makes his return to the series for the first time since New Hampshire 2008, and Johnny Benson returns with a top 10 after being injured last summer. Dennis Setzer finishes an impressive 3rd driving the second Gill truck. JJ Yeley gets his first truck top 10 and Neuenberger gets his first since 2000! Jason White did a solid job and will probably get his first win now that he's in a Ford. 9. Michigan's own Johnny Benson Jr. proves, once again, he deserves a full-time, fully-funded ride. It is a real shame a mediocre to decent-at-best driver like David Starr gets a top flight ride when he definitely doesn't deserve it. 11. 18fan posted: 02.14.2010 - 12:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm a Kyle fan, but what he did after returning to the track showed absolutely no class. I was proud of Mike Skinner saying Kyle caused his wreck by racing with the leaders while he was 18 laps down. He finally figured it out on the final run and stayed in the back. This race was the debut of Kyle Busch Motorsports. Kyle wrecked on the first lap, and Tayler Malsam had a fast truck that got caught up in the Carmichael-Hornaday wreck. About that wreck, does anybody know what took Michael Waltrip about 10 replays to figure out that Hornaday got bumped by Carmichael. I could tell when it happened that he got bumped. 12. potatosalad48 posted: 02.14.2010 - 12:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Good job to Jason White in a roush back-up truck finishing 4th and Timothy Peters getting a win @ Daytona! I'd expect that Ford to come back when the series goes to Talladega. Brett Butler had a career best 11th place finish in this race. I thought Matt Crafton did a good job laying back and avoiding all the crashes before making a run toward the front at the end. Crafton is now a small step ahead of some of the championship contenders like Skinner and Hornaday as far as the points go. 14. He's come a long way from winning in late models at Virginia Short Tracks where I used to watch him race. The late Bobby Hamilton discovered him and signed him to a contract. Two years ago his future in NASCAR was seriously in doubt when he couldnt' land a ride. Last year at this time he was just making enough money just to get from race to race until Red Horse Racing picked him up. Several top 10's, a win at Martinsville and a top 10 points finish Peters was a rising star. He's a bonifide star now beating the likes of Todd Bodine and Dennis Setzer at Daytona! Kyle Busch, all I can say about that is what a douche. Racing with the leaders while 18 laps down and bumping people out of the way while they were in the lead pack is a new low. 16. Talon64 posted: 02.15.2010 - 4:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) A lot of great trucks were knocked out because of all the wrecks but the best of the bunch, Bodine and White, were still in the hunt so great job by Timothy Peters to now have wins at the smallest track and one of the biggest tracks in the series. It was his 2nd career win and 4th win in 6 seasons for team owner Tom DeLoach. Bodine has yet to finish outside the top five in Truck restrictor plate races; he's 10 for 10. This was Setzer's 160th career top ten finish and 3rd straight ten dating back to his starts last season. Jason White got his first career pole and 3rd career top five with a 4th place finish. Matt Crafton got his 110th career topten, first career top five at Daytona and first at a plate race. Nelson Piquet Jr. made his first career NASCAR start and was the highest finishing rookie in 6th. Brett Butler was the 2nd highest rookie in 11th. 17. 18fan posted: 02.15.2010 - 8:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Good showing for Team Gill Racing with Setzer third and Benson, in his return to the series, finishing eighth. What he has done for Red Horse Racing during the past few racing months is impressive. It's unfortunate that they couldn't hold on to Johnny Benson, but sponsorship is hard to find nowadays, just ask Dale Jr. You know things are bad when the most popular driver in NASCAR, and a two-year removed Truck champion can't get sponsors. 21. Being exposed to the business and being smart are two different things. If Harvick were smart, he wouldn't have thrown away a possible '06 cha$e championship to focus on Busch races and he wouldn't have thrown RCR under the bus last year when everyone knew they would have to rebound eventually. It's laughable that you think Harvick is going to be the next Richard Childress. Richard Childress is Richard Childress because of DALE EARNHARDT. Earnhardt and Childress were more of a partnership than an owner/driver relationship. Harvick is successful as a truck owner because he has the funding to do so compared to teams barely getting by. It won't be like that at all once he's a team owner in Cup. The fact that he and Kryle Busch are so quick to be team owners in the truck series shows how big their egos are. 34.
