Cannot believe that Johnny Benson still can't find a ride after scoring two top 10s in only two starts this season. 2. Another 1-2 finish for fierce rivals Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick.... in the Truck Series. This amazing rivalry will continue next week at Phoenix on Friday night as they will almost certainly battle for the win, then continue Saturday Night in the Cup race where they will continue their epic battles.... for 12th place while JJ leads 250 of the 312 laps and wins by 3.5 seconds over Mark Martin (unless the #48 team decides to try more stupid experiments like they did at MVille, in which case K & K will STILL finish behind Jimmie). You know how they have shelters for battered women (I'm not trying to make light of this, somebody I know is in one right now)? The Truck Series has become K & K's shelter for battered Cup Series drivers. 4. That would be the 1998 version of the black #3 car. Unless they had a promising run going spoiled by mistakes from the driver or pit crew. Then it would be the 1992 version. Is Brad Keselowski trying to resurrect his father's Truck team? Dude, don't go down the same path as Kevin and Kyle. Although it would give him yet another series in which to ruffle the diva's feathers. If he can get the Truck to where it doesn't suck. 5. potatosalad48 posted: 04.03.2010 - 11:49 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) On the DNQ list, there's a driver named Brian Rose. If you're not trying to make light of it, then you probably shouldn't be bringing it up, regardless of the context. "The Truck Series has become K & K's shelter for battered Cup Series drivers." Shrub has won 12 races the last two seasons, second only to the #48 team. Harvick won the only race for his organization last year and this year (Bud Shootouts) and is carrying the flag for RCR. Yes, they are just totally battered. In fact, K & K should probably walk around with paper bags over their heads because winning Truck races in your own equipment is really humiliating. "If he can get the Truck to where it doesn't suck." Unless you're in a Toyota or Chevy in the Truck series, you're almost guaranteed to suck. 7. Brad was actually pretty good in practice, but a pit penalty put him behind, and instead of finishing 13th, Brad intentionally fell backwards to finish 2 laps down so he didn't have to run the extra last lap. And DaleSRfanforever, Brad has been a truck owner way before kyle became an owner. Check it. 10. It is some of the Worst racing on the circuit(s). 12. RCRandPenskeGuy posted: 04.03.2010 - 3:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I missed this race, but it was probably for the best as Kyle Busch ran away with it. I'm not adverse to these drivers' (Busch and Harvick's) teams winning in the lower series, but I AM adverse to seeing Cup stars leave everyone else in the dust driving those rides. If the rides had young up-and-comers in them I wouldn't say anything at all. I'm not saying they shouldn't race at all, but they shouldn't be in a majority of the races either. To me, it just sucks that sponsors want to see guys like Kyle and Kevin run the majority of the races because it doesn't leave much for the younger guys. I'm glad Tayler Malsam got a shot at the full season with KBM and that Brian Ickler will be running some races too, but it still doesn't seem right. Timothy Peters has another good run, finishing 4th after leading 17 laps. I was pulling for him to win this race, especially since his family had to sell their Indy 500 pace car (I heard it this way during the telecast, if I'm not mistaken?) so he could continue to race. He seems to be a talented Truck driver, so I hope he does keep racing. With the way Austin Dillon has run so far with RCR, that should be an indication that he needs to just stay in the Trucks for now. 13. They need to switch the dates to the old Nashville Fairgrounds, a farily high banked half mile SHORT TRACK that always produced good races in the lower series (and even the Cup Series for a long time). And I don't want to hear "oh, the facilities aren't up to par". 15. Although it would give him yet another series in which to ruffle the diva's feathers. If he can get the Truck to where it doesn't suck." From what I've heard from a driver signed to BKR, Brad's truck team is being built up to run full-time with Brad's developmental driver(s). What better way for Brad to gauge where his team is at than by running the equipment himself. I have much less of an issue with drivers stepping down when they're at least stepping down in their own equipment. Not to mention Kyle Busch giving a ride to a pair of young, talented drivers (Brian Ickler and Taylar Malsam) or Kevin Harvick giving a ride to an older driver who would otherwise be in the same spot as Johnny Benson and Ted Musgrave. "They need to switch the dates to the old Nashville Fairgrounds, a farily high banked half mile SHORT TRACK that always produced good races in the lower series (and even the Cup Series for a long time). However, from what I have heard the surrounding neighborhoods have gone down the toilet and the city opted to shutter it. 17. What a shame, another really good race TRACK gone by the wayside for all the wrong reasons. On the bright side, they are planning on running some lower level racing Sries at North Wilkesboro this year. I realize that the chance of a NASCAR touring coming back to NW are somewhere between 0% and 0%, at least it won't rot into oblivion, if everything goes right. And that is a big IF. 21. As for North Wilkesboro, that is very personal for me. I live about 35 minutes east of the track and have gone to many races there. I went to my first race ever (in any series) there in 1990 when I was 6 years old for the famous Brett Bodine scoring error win, and almost every other race til Bruton Smith and Bob Bahre shut it down with NASCAR's approval (to hell with all of them). I saw Mark win there in the Folger's car, I saw DW get one of his last wins, I saw Dale snap Handsome Harry's 4 race winning streak with a pass on the outside (rare for there), saw Rusty in that bad ass black and gold MGD car run a few Polish victory laps in honor of his buddy Alan, I saw a race there where Davey Allison was involved in 4 different cautions, then saw him WIN there a few years later. I also had to watch Geoff Bodine win a few times, but I'm trying to block that out of my mind. So I will go there for its next race, and I don't care what it is. If they are racing lawn mowers, I'm going back to North Wilkesboro to watch it. But I used the "if" word because apparently the new owners aren't all they are cracked up to be. But they have about 3 different events scheduled there towards the end of the year, so I've got my fingers crossed. 24. Anonymous posted: 04.04.2010 - 10:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'll be there for the first race in September. It's only a county over from me so I have to support it even though I have no interest in the series that are racing there. Hopefully if we fill the place we'll get a truck race soon. 25. I normally don't watch the series that will be going there either, but I will definitely be going to those races, as this was one of my favorite tracks back when I first started watching NASCAR around the mid-90's. And I'd for sure like to help support it. 27. Harvick's runner up finish is his 9th straight top five finish in his starts; he has an average finish of 1.9 over that stretch. He's 3 top tens away for 50 in the Trucks. It's also his 9th top five in 14 NASCAR starts this season; 2 for 6 in Cup, 4 for 5 in Nationwide and 3 for 3 in the Trucks. Hornaday's 3rd place finish was KHI's 98th top five and 149th top ten in 249 entries. KHI will make it's 250th and 251th career start at Kansas and could hit 100 top fives and 150 top tens. KHI's average finish since entering the Truck Series is 11.0. Timothy Peters is the only driver to finish in the top ten in all 4 races this season. He already has 3 top fives after having 5 in 25 races last season. With Hornaday still over a race behind and Peters not only solidly consistent but racing for wins he's already looking great for the championship. Mike Skinner finally got his first top ten of the season. He had 3 top tens in the first 4 races last year and was 4th in the standings, this year he's only 12th so far. Austin Dillon was the highest finishing rookie in 14th. Justin Lofton is like Colin Braun in Nationwide, running well but having no luck whatsoever. 28. Anonymous posted: 04.07.2010 - 1:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) If it wasn't for Timothy Peters and Ron Hornaday leading and the first caution was ridicouls (a debris that is on the apron). Kyle would have led all of the laps, maybe become the first driver to done so and the first caution free race ever in series history. 29. DaleSrFanForever posted: 04.08.2010 - 6:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Nothing Kyle or Kevin does in this series means anything." I agree. I don't care that they own their own stuff, they are still Cup drivers racing in a lower Series. They test their skills in the top stock car racing series 36 times every year so they are razor sharp compared to their competition which is either VERY inexperienced, or has been in the Trucks for a while and hasn't raced competitively in Cup in a long time. The smoking gun: Look at Biffle in the #27 NWide car this year. They struggled like hell the past few years, but put Biffle in and suddenly they are contenders. Why? Cause the Biff is constantly having to try to keep up the #48 team in Cup, so when he steps down a notch, it is so much comparatively easier. 32. Anonymous posted: 04.08.2010 - 11:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It's all about track time. Hamlin, McMurray, Mears and Kahne magically became better in the Busch Series when they had full-time Cup rides. Carl Edwards was good-not-great as a stand along Truck driver. 33. RCRandPenskeGuy posted: 04.08.2010 - 11:56 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I agree with Anonymous' point about Hamlin. Not that he wasn't good, but he certainly wasn't great in Busch before he got seat time in Cup. He only scored one top-5 finish in his rookie season in Busch, and then scored 12 the next season when he was running both Busch and Cup. 34. Another thing you have to remember: None of them were running in powerhouse equipment when they magically got better in Busch. McMurray was driving for Clarance Brewer, Mears for Ganassi, Kahne for Braun, and Hamlin for pre-Toyota JGR. 35. Yeah but the truck series is entirely different than Cup in terms of physics. That's why Todd Bodine does so well in the truck series whereas he couldn't stay out of the wall in Cup. His driving style is better suited for trucks. It's not because the truck series takes inferior driving skills. 36. Crawford had been at the wheel of his iconic #14 since 1997 in the Truck series and even longer than that in lower-level series such as the defunct NASCAR All-Pro series. The combination had resulted in 5 Truck series victories and a best finish of second in points (without a victory) to Mike Bliss in 2002. The team shut down after this race due to lack of sponsorship and Crawford made only four more starts in 2010 in the Truck series after losing the ride. The end of the Circle Bar team marked more-or-less the demise of Ford trucks in the Truck series, since the end of the #14 there have been very few serious Ford entries on the tour. 38.
