Yet another time a Cup guy takes the big sponsorship $$$ and takes the limelight away from up and comers. There is no development series anymore. Races like this are the reason we have an epic 2010 Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year battle between Tery Cook (Truck lifer driving an S & P car) and Kevin Conway (there because of his deal with the pecker pill company, finishes every race at least 4 laps down). Justin Allgaier may be the last driver to be developed through the lower ranks. I guess Kyle can at least look to moments like this in December in Vegas when he watches JJ accept his 5th consecutive Sprint Cup championship trophy. Maybe it will take some of the pain away for him. And maybe now he can pay his damn contractors. 6. Donny Lia took a hard head-on hit into the inside wall late in this one. 7. 18fan posted: 05.22.2010 - 11:39 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) DSFF, Kyle was going to beat JJ last week even if JJ didn't choke and speed on pit road. I'm not disputing this. (I have a different opinion, but I can't prove it, so I won't argue it). I'm just saying Chad will have that #48 car in prime shape for the final 10, JJ will quit making the string of mental blunders he's been making lately (Texas, Talladega, Darlington, Dover) and run off with the Cup again. Yes Kyle and Denny are doing better right now, but they are also both notoriously streaky and prone to allowing mistakes to compound themselves when the pressure and expectations are on them. I hate it, but it's the truth. 12. Terry left the #46 team after Richmond, so now Conway is the only rookie that runs full time. "I guess Kyle can at least look to moments like this in December in Vegas when he watches JJ accept his 5th consecutive Sprint Cup championship trophy" God forbid a Cup guy wins a truck race in his own equipment, right? Kyle is AHEAD of your beloved in JJ in points, and has kicked his butt in all the spoiler races, and is a mere 10 points behind in terms of the cha$e standings. I can't understand what you're bitching about, it just sounds like you're complaining for the sake of it. Good to see Elliott Sadler finally get a top 5 finish in the #2 truck. Were it not for bad luck he could have had top 5's at Daytona and Dover also. I'm thinking him driving the 2 truck this year is a sneak preview of 2011 for him. 13. Of course he is, he always has. First it was Cup drivers running for Cup teams. Now that they're in their own equipment he says it's "big sponsors". There will always be an excuse to complain. 14. Anonymous posted: 05.22.2010 - 5:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also, he was being sarcastic about the rookie of the year battle. Of course that never happened in the old days (1996, 1977) 15. Anonymous posted: 05.22.2010 - 11:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Someone sabotaged Kyle's truck before the race. His team found 11 loose lugs during the rain delay. DSFF speaks the truth. Of course he will be bashed too. The Truck Series is heading the same direction as NW. Cup guys dominate, one or two good independents, then a bunch of clunkers. 16. On Lap 10, #3-Austin Dillon suddenly broke loose, veered right and hit the wall. It was later found that there were loose lug nuts on the left-rear of the #3-RCR truck.(5-22-2010) UPDATE: There was also concern before and early in the race about at least two trucks -- including Busch's -- that mysteriously had loose lug nuts. "They just found that three of the wheels were loose," Busch crew chief Eric Phillips said before the green flag. "We've just got to keep a better eye on our stuff, I guess." Phillips refused to speculate if he thought someone intentionally loosened the wheels. But 20-year-old Austin Dillon -- whose car was parked behind Busch's in the impound area after qualifying -- claimed his wreck on the 10th lap was caused by the same problem. "They left the left-rear lugs loose. We don't know what happened," said Dillon, grandson of NASCAR team owner Richard Childress. A NASCAR official said they were looking into the matter. 17. Terry left the #46 team after Richmond, so now Conway is the only rookie that runs full time." Heh. Shows you how much this year's ROY standings means. I didn't even know that. If a rookie pulled out in the past, that would be newsworthy. "God forbid a Cup guy wins a truck race in his own equipment, right?" Right. Since he is a "big name" he will get the biggest sponsorship and be able to have the fastest Truck. He will dominate and any drivers trying to develop and be noticed can't get any airtime (some of that blame I lay on the TV production). It is what is leading to the problem in the Cup Series of a lack of good drivers. There is very little fresh blood to put in there cause they can't go anywhere in NWide or the Trucks cause the Cup guys are taking all the sponsorship money. If their appearances were limited, sponsors would pay less, and thus racing in that Series would be more affordable, like it was in the old days. There would be more quality rides available for unproven drivers to show their stuff to Cup owners. This would lead to more of an influx of new drivers. By making the decision to take the short term attendance and $$$ gain for the NWide and Truck races that go along with having big names in the race, it is costing them in the big picture. In the past, it seemed like every year somebody came along and became a week in and week out contender that wasn't one before (not nessecarily as rookies). Davey Allison in 1987, Rusty in 1988, Mark in '89, Ernie Irvan in '91, Dale Jarrett in '93, Gordon in '94, Sterling in '95, Jeff Burton in '97, Tony in '99, Kenseth and Dale Jr in 2000, Kurt Busch and JJ in '02, Kahne and Biffle in '04, Kyle Busch and Edwards in '05, and Hamlin in '06. It was a lot of the fun of following NASCAR was to watch somebody become one of the guys to beat. Since 2006, the Cup Series has pretty much remained status quo. With the exception of a few off years here or there, your elite drivers are JJ, Stewart, Gordon, the Busch Brothers, Hamlin, and Kenseth, Edwards, and Biffle depending on where Ford is at. You have some others that pop up for a win or two every now and then, but the Cup Series is very stagnant, and that is a big reason fans are being turned off. We are seeing the same thing every week. And is all leads back to reasons like Kyle being in this race. And yes I consider my guy, Keselowski, to be part of the problem too, at least this year. 19. DaleSrFanForever posted: 05.23.2010 - 3:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Kyle is AHEAD of your beloved in JJ in points, and has kicked his butt in all the spoiler races, and is a mere 10 points behind in terms of the cha$e standings." In 2008, as late as AUGUST, Kyle had 8 wins to JJ's 2 (1 of which was a fuel mileage win) and was way ahead of JJ in traditional points. How'd that turn out? The 48 was in much worse shape that year as compared to now. They couldn't run with the 18 and the 99 for most of the year. This year they have been very fast with the spoiler, but JJ keeps making mental blunders. And he isn't my "beloved" JJ by any means. I'm just going ahead and bracing myself to watch him be crowned Sprint Cup champion for a 5th consecutive year. And I know this because of what I mentioned above, the Cup Series is stagnant. 20. It's his 3rd Truck win at Charlotte which leads all drivers. It's KBM's 2nd win in the Trucks. Kyle could've used the million from the All Star race though, he's already regretting starting up the team because it's such a money sink. You think??? Todd Bodine took the points lead with his 6th top five of the season which leads all drivers. It's just his 3rd top five in 7 Charlotte starts. Ron Hornaday's 3rd is his 4th podium finish of the year. James Buescher's 4th is the 2nd time in 30 Truck starts he's had back-to-back top tens and the first time he's had back-to-back top fives. 2 top fives in 4 starts is already more than he had in all of 2009 as a rookie. Elliott Sadler gets his first top ten in the Trucks with a 5th place finish. He has 6 Truck starts since 2000, 3 of them this season. Mike Skinner's 6th is his best finish so far this season. Aric Almirola finishes in the top 10 for a 6th straight race. Jason White's first top ten since Daytona has him 9th in the standings; he was 18th at this point last season. David Starr's 8th makes it the 3rd straight race that both Randy Moss Motorsports teams have finished in the top ten; Skinner has 4 straight top tens. Timothy Peters finishes 10th after finishes of 23rd and 25th which cost him his points lead. He's still 86 points behind the lead. Narain Karthikeyan's 17th is his 2nd top 20 finish in 3 starts this season. Jennifer Jo Cobb got her first top 20 finish in 11 Truck starts. Brad Keselowski and Elliott Sadler had shots at joining the list of drivers with wins in all top 3 series. Sadler finished 5th, while Keselowski was running top five until his engine expired. Keselowski was driving for his own team. 24. RCRandPenskeGuy posted: 05.26.2010 - 2:28 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Wow, I didn't even know Brad was in this race.
