In addition Speed channel my as well just have a Kyle Cam as 70% of their coverage was about Kyle Busch. Note to Kyle: These races mean nothing! If you can't win in Cup, all these AA and AAA races don't matter. The last caution actually occurred before the last lap, but NASCAR was too slow in throwing the caution that it gave a NASCAR sponsored vehicle the win. The Truck Series race was trumped by the Whelen Modifieds, who were able to race hard and clean for 150 laps while the trucks were hitting everything accept for the hot dog vendor. 12. TeamPlayersBlue posted: 08.19.2010 - 10:59 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I hope one of these days people find Whelen Modifieds on TV and see how much better racing they put on (most of the time) than NASCAR's top three series. Also, even though Kyle won this race fair, NASCAR waited until Kyle had got to turn 1 and then threw out the caution even though one truck had already spun and hit another in turn 4 right before Kyle had crossed the line. Compare that to Jeff Gordon at Martinsville when the second Kyle Busch had spun in turn 4 they put the caution out right before he made it to the line, and that ended up screwing Jeff Gordon's race. Brilliant job by Miguel Paludo, I would love to see guys like Patrick Long, Romain Dumas, Allan McNish, Tom Kristesen, Jorg bergmeister, David Brabham and Jaime Melo try NASCAR. 13. TaterRacing posted: 08.19.2010 - 12:51 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Kyle didn't jump any restart, you could hear it on the audio that the guy on the inside (whoever it was) spun the tires every single time. Sorry but Kyle is just much better on restarts than most of the field. And where did Kyle cause two wrecks? He spun Jennifer Jo Cobb, pretty blatantly, but that's the only incident that can be attributed to him. Really, this was a pretty terrible race. Especially after seeing the amazing Modified race just before it. But the first half of the race was littered with yellow flags. Michael Waltrip pointed out that on lap 66, there had been 33 yellow laps compared to 33 green laps. By this time, Kyle Busch had worked his way from 35th starting spot to the lead and he just dominated from there. The only thing that made this race even watchable at the end was to see if Kyle would run out of fuel or not. Great run for Miguel Paludo, the K&N Series East driver this year on finishing ninth in his Truck debut, and on a tough track like Bristol. Matt Crafton got into Austin Dillon (who had a rough night and was a couple laps down at the time) coming to the white flag, causing a few trucks to spin. Dillon ran up to Crafton after the checkers and hit him in the side a few times and there was a 'discussion' in the pits between crews afterward. Overall, a pretty sad race. Lots of guys spinning off the lower groove and a lot of Kyle Busch leading at the end. 14. calegale33 posted: 08.19.2010 - 1:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I was at the track for both races last night and I can agree with TeamPlayersBlue, the Modifieds put on a better show in my opinion. I did enjoy watching Busch, Hornaday, and Keselowski work their way back through the field throughout the night. I think Keselowski was two laps down after his slide on the frontstretch and I know Hornaday was a lap down after his spin. I agree with potatosalad48 on Bodine, barring any catastrophic failure no one will catch Todd. Last night, Todd appeared to be in race for points mode instead of race for the win mode. Anytime someone would get close to him, he would let them pass without much fight. He did race Justin Lofton harder toward the finish but he still gave Justin plenty of room. As others have already mentioned, I was impressed with the run Miguel Paludo had and I'm pretty sure his truck was not owned by Richard Childress as it shows on here. Miguel's truck was a third Germain Racing entry if I'm not mistaken. 15. He also won his 8th career pole, series-leading 4th of the year. Kyle becomes the 5th driver in the Trucks to win 3 in a row at a track. Aric Almirola gets his 6th top five of the year. After 16 races Aric has two more wins, one less top five, two more top tens and an identical average finish than he did last year (ran 16 races in 2009). Ron Hornaday gets his 7th podium finish of the season, tied with Todd Bodine for the most so far this season. Mike Skinner gets just his 2nd top five of the season, first in the last 8 races. Justin Lofton is the highest finishing rookie in 5th, his 3rd top five of the season and 3rd top ten in the last 4 races. He's gained 181 points on 10th in the standings over that span. Todd Bodine gets his 13th top ten of the year, already more than he had in all of 2009. Todd currently has a career-best 6.9 average finish this season (8.4 in 2006 when he won the championship). Brad Keselowski gets his 2nd straight Truck Series top ten in his starts. It's only his 4th top ten in 48 career series starts. Timothy Peters gets his 13th top ten of the year, already matching his total from all of 2009. Since joining Red Horse Racing in the middle of last season Peters has 2 wins, 3 poles, 10 top five and 24 top tensin 33 starts with a 9.64 average finish. Miguel Paludo finishes 9th in his Truck Series debut. Matt Crafton gets his 7th straight top ten finish, the 2nd longest of anyone this season. Austin Dillon's top ten streak ends at 8 races, tying Ricky Hendrick for longest by a rookie in series history. 19. I believe I heard it mentioned that during the truck practice he reported no oil pressure but the team didn't take it serious as they just reset the dial and when he went out to qualify the engine acted up again until after qualifying it blew up or something big broke. So he had a right to be upset when they did not look into the problem after practice. 24. allhedoesiswin posted: 08.20.2010 - 11:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "your argument lacks statistical merit as well. Why does it matter what age those guys were when they started? The fact is, they have the same number of wins as Kyle Busch, and they raced in a lot more races. I don't see how their age factors into it at all. It's not like Busch has had 20 years of racing to accomplish 18 wins. Bodine won 18 races over 12 years and a hell of a lot more races. I mean what criteria are you really going on here? Tell me, so I can go to the stats and show you you're wrong, yet again. And I can't stand when people use the "waaaah, they had inferior equipment!" argument. So Jeff Gordon's wins don't count? So Jimmie Johnson's wins don't count? Richard Petty's wins don't count? Dale Earnhardt? These are all guys who won a lot of races in the best cars in the field (and Busch is NOT in the best car in the field). Seriously, what wins DO count to someone who uses this argument? Is Busch supposed to have even more wins at this point? I think only Jeff Gordon, and or maybe Richard Petty had more wins at the same age as Busch is now. If you want to look at his wins per the number of races he's been in, it's comparable to Dale Earnhardt Jr's first 200 races. And if you really want to bring up the issue of inferior equipment you can't ignore the fact that Bodine, Bonnet, and Gant all raced in eras that paled in comparison to the competitiveness of modern NASCAR. So I don't understand this part of the argument, because it also doesn't make any sense, and it's just an excuse for people who don't understand numbers and are in such heavy denial about their hatred for a driver that they are blind to the facts. 25. Uh, seeing as how Kryle started out in Cup at age 20, that means he has a ten year head start on these guys. THAT is why it matters. "So Jeff Gordon's wins don't count? So Jimmie Johnson's wins don't count? Richard Petty's wins don't count? Dale Earnhardt?" It's not that they don't count, they need to be taken in context. Let's start at the top, and Petty's 200 wins. He did a lot of that in an era where they ran 45-50 races per year. And for Gordon and JJ, it needs to be known they are in elite equipment and have been for their entire Cup careers. That has allowed them to maximize their potential, something most drivers never get to do. Compare their situation to Kasey Kahne's situation. I'd say his 11 wins are as impressive as JJ's 50. Which brings us to Kryle. He has perhaps the most natural driving talent on the circuit (it's between him and Tony). And he is in elite equipment. Just look at JGR and their win totals since 2005. 5, 7, 4, 10, 9, and 7 (with 13 races still to be run). Those are some damn good numbers. Kryle should be putting up "Gordon numbers". Remember the late 90's when Jeff was winning so many races AND championships. It's because he was in elite equipment (like Kryle), and freakishly talented (like Kryle). From '95 through '99, racing 30-32 races per year (unlike Kryle who gets 36 chances to win per year), Jeff had win totals of 7, 10, 10, 13, and 7 with 3 championships. That is what Kryle SHOULD be doing. Jeff set the standard. Kryle has fallen way short of that in a similar situation. Even his fantastic 8 win season in '08 was a disappointment. Armed with way more bonus points than anyone else, he had a couple of mechanical failures and allowed himself to tank, never mounting anything resembling a charge while JJ blew him out of the cha$e like Fartman. Then last year, Kryle couldn't even make the Top 12, while his teammate, Denny Hamlin, would have contended for the title had he not had an epic choke at Cali. So forgive me for not being blown away by Kryle's Cup "accomplishments". Seeing as how he's been in top equipment his whole career, yet he has been vastly outdone by a driver with about half of Kryle's natural driving ability, winning 4 straight titles, 50+ races, and just making Kryle look weak. 30. Anonymous posted: 08.21.2010 - 12:03 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "driver with about half of Kryle's natural driving ability" That's a big assumption. I never thought JJ had a lot of natural talent until recently, but like any great driver he just keeps finding his way to the front no matter what. Kyle doesn't even come close to doing that. Kyle over-drives his car, slides around, bounces off the wall and that's when his car is good. Darlington in 08 is a great example. If that had been before the COT he wouldn't of even finished that race. 31. DaleSrFanForever posted: 08.21.2010 - 10:14 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Those are goog points in post #30. I should have mentioned that I differentiate between "driving" ability and "racing" ability. Racing requires talent and a brain. Kyle just loses his head in a race car. JJ stays cool under immense pressure. You are right, Kryle has very little "racing" instinct. He can drive the wheels off a car, and can do little else. JJ is hands down the best of this generation at knowing when to do what on the race track. He never gives up, in fact when adversity strikes, it motivates him to be even better (like Gordon in the late 90s) wheras Kryle throws a tantrum, insulting everyone he can think of, then makes his situation even worse. So you are right, I should have been more specific. 32. The Zeusian posted: 08.21.2010 - 10:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Chris Jones was running in the top 10 for quite awhile. Kahne has won over half the races Busch has while dealing with the turmoil of his team (and it's various owners.) I can't see Busch doing the same thing; he's way too dependent on good race cars. "I never thought JJ had a lot of natural talent until recently, but like any great driver he just keeps finding his way to the front no matter what." I've said this before but I feel that JJ is a pretty good driver in great equipment. I don't think people realize how much better the #48 team is anything RCR and Roush fields year in and year out. The biggest thing JJ has going for him is that he's a clutch driver, which in this day and age, combined with an elite team, means A LOT. There's too many drivers (Stewart, Harvick, Kryle Busch, JPM, etc.) willing to take themselves out of contention over an on-track incident. That just helps JJ who can keep his cool. 34. What Kasey has managed to do for the flagship team of an organziation that has been in turmoil for quite some time is impressive. There's no telling what he'd have done if he'd stayed in good equipment since he started his career. His team was good from 2004-2006, and Kasey managed to put up some pretty good numbers in that time. As a rookie, he finished 2nd about five times and led a lot of laps. 2005 was kind of an off-year, although he got his first win. 2006 was good, as he won 6 races and again led lots of laps. Since then, his organization has seemed to be in turmoil. I don't think Kyle could succeed with an organization like that either. When his car isn't perfect, he always pitches a fit. 37. He had to come to a full stop once and avoid at least 3 other wrecks right as they were happening, but still finished without a scratch, in a rare show of decent luck for the otherwise cursed #85. 48. Kyle Busch would make history once more by winning all three NASCAR national series (Cup, Nationwide and Truck) races in the same weekend at the same track. He would accomplish this feat again in 2017 for the second time at the same Bristol night events. 49. Krista Voda was the host of the thirty minute pre-race show. 50. YSRF0006 posted: 01.02.2021 - 7:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The #16 truck never got up to speed. Brett Butler made a single lap during final practice, recording an uncompetitive 25.651 second, 74.804 MPH lap. SPEED's broadcast of qualifying showed Butler as the driver. The #16 did not make an on track qualifying attempt. Justin Hobgood was on the initial entry list, so I would list Butler as the 40th place driver here and list Hobgood as a DC. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
