Looking like an exciting battle for Truck Series points this year, and Clay Rogers is doing a pretty good job of hanging on in the standings, with a solid 11th place finish 4. Hornaday need one more top 5 finish to tie Jack Sprague for the series all-time record in that category. Matt Crafton scores his 19th consecutive top 10 finish in his 250th career (and consecutive) start. Cole Whitt won his first career pole and led laps in a NCWTS race for the first time in only his fourth career start. 5. chris posted: 03.12.2011 - 9:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) A more entertaining race when only the regulars show up to play, even if Kasey Kahne ran the event. 6. I saw on more than one occasion trucks duck out back in the pack just as the leader hit the start/finish line. The SPEED crew claimed the Winning truck owner Kyle Busch was in Cancun watching SPEED en Espanol. 9. dUDE gUY posted: 03.12.2011 - 10:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Holy crap jensenators, you are absolutely correct. There have been three races run in each series so far, which means that Cup regulars have won less races in Cup than they have in either Nationwide or Trucks this year. Mind = blown. 10. how u doin posted: 03.12.2011 - 10:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I wouldn't consider Michael Waltrip who won Daytona to be a Cup regular. Trevor Bayne runs Cup more than he does at this point... 11. 18fan posted: 03.12.2011 - 11:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Michael Waltrip did say he would score points in Cup, so I think that makes him a Cup driver. Since this system of making guys run for one championship obviously hasn't fixed the problem, the only thing that will is a limit for a driver who scores Cup points running only 15 NNS races and no more than 7 or 8 truck races, just to keep the series integrity because it seems like Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick run more and more truck races every year. 12. 00andJoe posted: 03.13.2011 - 1:09 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'd rather go for a "if you're in the top 35 in Cup and have an active ride, then you can't compete in series B or C", but I'd settle... I winced, hard, seeing that hit Johanna Long took. Ow. And the common taters (*ahem*) never got it right on that accident either. They kept saying she hit Piquet and cut down his tire after hers blew. Anybody with eyes could see on the replay Piquet blow a tire, go up in the wall, and then come down and hit -her-, taking the 20's tire (and more) out, leading to her and Carmichael on a collison course. Heck, even -she- was able to tell that (per her interview)... Still better than ESPN's coverage, though! Justin Lofton is probably wondering who designated him Darlington's official Pinball Wizard. 13. And he pretty much proved that Kyle isn't the only one who can win in that truck. Shame that Nelson Piquet got crashed out. Was hoping he'd back up his good qualifying spot. Darlington seems to be returning to its former self (i.e. the way it was before it was repaved.) 14. Dodge posted: 03.13.2011 - 6:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It seems like Ricky Carmichael loves to get into accidents. Almost every race it seems like he is involved in one. People complain about how some drivers never have to worry about sponsorship even though they suck. I say, throw in Carmichael into that group. Yet, last year's champ is still struggling finding sponsors. Why is Piquet in the series, to do what he did in F1? I still say he is a lying sack of sh*t and decided to do the wimpy thing and take someone down with him. Just my opinion. 15. If that were Danica behind the wheel they'd be jumping all over it saying how it wasn't her fault. I guess Johanna just needs to pose in her bikini to get the credit she deserves. "Still better than ESPN's coverage, though!" The sad thing is you are right. 16. Jarrett88fan posted: 03.13.2011 - 9:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) What is most disturbing about the Piquet ride situation is Hornaday's #33 team points from 2010 were transfered to Piquet's team for Daytona, Phoenix and Darlington. If Hornaday cut a tire, spun out or had a mechanical failure, the four-time and most-winning driver in CWTS would go home. I don't like when teams in any series does this for their teammates because of sponsorship, team owner pressure or name recognition. 17. Spen posted: 03.13.2011 - 9:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hornaday would still be able to fall back on his past champion's provisinal, so it's not like he'd miss a race because of the points switch. 18. What, Hornaday wouldn't get to use the PCP? The same thing happened in the Nationwide series with the #2 getting the points from the #33 since the #33 would have past champions driving it. The #31 truck is just outside the top 10 in points despite not qualifying Phoenix, the #4 and #32 are pretty much buried in the points for now. With this new points system, missing a race isn't as bad since everyone else that made the race gets a smaller share of the maximum points to be gained. 19. If your other driver is guaranteed in the race because of the Past Champion's Provisional, you're stupid to NOT transfer the points to the other car. It's a product of NASCAR's top 35 (or 25 in this case) rule, but as an owner you're being irresponsible with your resources if you have a Series Champion who is locked in and a driver who isn't a Champion or locked in heading into the season. That's just Harvick being smart as an owner... or DeLana wearing the firesuit. 23. See Nelson Piquet Jr. and his intentional wrecking he Renault to allow his teammate to win the race and World Driver's Championship." Piquet Jr. was never banned from F1. In fact he got immunity from the FIA for his testimony against team principal Flavio Briatore and engineer Pat Symonds. Whether he's been blacklisted by the teams or not is another thing. He had his share of blame for the situation but the majority of it falls on Briatore and Symonds. If Piquet doesn't go along with it he almost surely loses his ride with Renault, maybe not right away but eventually. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Cole Whitt has been pretty impressive so far, top 15 at Daytona when he wasn't even driving his full time ride, 6th at Phoenix and then pole, laps led and a likely top five at Darlington before the late caution and the bad restart that pushed him back to 8th.The extra support from Red Bull has really boosted the #60 team and Whitt's making the most of it. Matt Crafton made his 250th career start; 132 top tens but only 1 win, 44 top fives and 318 laps led. Yep, 318 laps led. That's an average of 1.27 laps led per race, and he hasn't led a lap yet in 2011. His career high was 99 in 2009 when he finished 2nd in the standings. Forget someone winning the championship without winning a race, what if Crafton wins the championship without LEADING A SINGLE LAP? This isn't something that can be prevented without significant and unnecessary rule changes so you really can't complain about it like that, but who would want to be the guy who wins a championship that way? And is a champion credible if he doesn't even have the best season among full time drivers? 2003, Matt Kenseth vs. Ryan Newman is a good debate about that, although Kenseth winning at least one race and having a shot at winning a few more helps his case. Bowyer and Edwards in 2008 in Nationwide is another case, Bowyer's rain-shortened win versus Edwards' 7 wins. But in my book, if you can show you're capable of contending for wins and get at least one then I've got no problem if you win the championship. 24. Ron Hornaday's 29th career runner-up finish is 2nd best all time but 11 back of Jack Sprague for the all time series record. James Buescher made his 50th career Truck start, getting his 8th top five and 15th top ten (7 top fives, 12 top tens in last 24 starts). Shane Sieg's 12th place finish is his first top 20 in his last 17 races (15 of them S&P's); last top 20 was 19th at Kansas driving for Billy Ballew Motorsports in 2009. 25. Not to mention the AMA Daytona 200 works better as a day race anyway (all racing at Daytona is better during the day). In case anyone is curious, the 200 was run on the same day as this event and it was won by Jason DiSalvo. DiSalvo's win was the first at that event for a biker on a Ducati. Congrats to biker and brand. 26.
