He pulled it off with a nice bump and run pass on Kyle Busch late. Ricky Carmichael really ran a good race and was in contention to win before being spun out by Cole Whitt. 5. Great job by Sauter, also good comeback by Harvick and it appears Hornaday is starting to get back to his old days again. Also, why were Norm Benning and Chase Mattioli not black flagged today? Unacceptable driving by both of them today, in many series they would have been thrown out of the race. 7. Great win by my favorite Truck regular, he now has one win in each season that he has driven the #13. Crafton has none during that time, and his streak of top 10 finishes also ended with an 11th. I think Johnny could very well win the championship this year, and I think he'll win at least once more. 8. 18fan posted: 04.02.2011 - 5:56 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Crafton sucks, its that simple. He's just one of the few drivers with competitive equipment with secure sponsorship that has significant stock car experience. I needed to use all of those qualities as Nelson Piquet Jr has competitive equipment and secure sponsorship but is lacking in experience and now has to qualify on time in the next race. 9. Rusty posted: 04.02.2011 - 6:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also, was anyone else annoyed by SPEED constantly crowing about how impressive Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick were throughout the day? Seriously? They have so much experience compared to the drivers out there, and are in better equipment for the most part and I'm supposed to be impressed? What was impressive by Kevin Harvick was his last lap pass on Jimmie Johnson to win the Cup race in Fontana last week, maybe he should focus on doing that more and less of being "impressive" in the Nationwide and truck series. 10. chris posted: 04.02.2011 - 6:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It is true sometimes the regulars can beat out the stars, good race. 11. Dodge posted: 04.02.2011 - 6:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I understand why someone said why wasn't Chase Mattioli blackflagged and I agree. He spun out what, 2-3 times and was the factor in another 2 spins as he was going so slow. As for Norm Benning, he was only involved in 1 wreck, when a pompous blowhard (Justin Lofton) got wrecked. At Martinsville, it is up to the faster cars/trucks to pass carefully the slower people. Lofton is only in NASCAR because he has his family's business as a sponsor and better drivers don't have sponsorships so they aren't able to run much if any. The only reason why Lofton became ARCA Champ in 2009 is because he won several poles as that series awards points for a pole. 13. And i have to agree with Mikey on something, Martinsville is the Bristol of old. So now i guess people are happy with guys punting eachother outta the way now? 17. DaleSrFanForever posted: 04.02.2011 - 6:47 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) God Bless You Martinsville. Thanks for not screwing yourself like Bristol did. Can't wait to see you tomorrow. Outstanding race. Congrats to Johnny Sauter for taking the two Big Bad Cup Guys to school on NASCAR's oldest track. I was rooting like hell for him at the end. It's amazing how Kyle can turn you into a fan of people you never dreamed of. I was pulling like hell for Gordon at Phoenix after 18 solid years of rooting against him. And I became JJ's biggest fan momentarily at the end of Cali last week. Michael Waltrip just sucks as an announcer. He is beyond annoying with his squeaky voice and the way he talks down to the fans. He doesn't know when to step back and let the play by play guy do his job. And he can't predict shit. The best part was when Harvick got back in contention, and the SPEED truck replayed Mikey talking about how he was out of it for good. Mikey was obviously mad about this. It was a wonderful moment. Michael Waltrip: as bad in the booth as he is behind the wheel. I know this is a division to learn in, and everyone has embarrassing days, but Chase Mattioli was an embarrassment. I think he broke JJ's record for most times spun out in a race he set in the ASA Series. "I think Johnny could very well win the championship this year, and I think he'll win at least once more." I agree. Johnny has really matured. I didn't think he had this in him, but he has proven me wrong. 18. Kyle should have closed that one out, even though Sauter had the better truck. Martinsville is an enigma for Shrub, as he's good on every other short track. Based on what the drivers have been saying all weekend, we might be in for another tire disaster tomorrow. 20. Jarrett88fan posted: 04.02.2011 - 7:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 17. DaleSrFanForever You stole my thunder 100%. Mikey put his foot in his mouth by declaring Harvick out of the race after 75 laps of a 250 lap short track race with: some inexperienced drivers making mistakes, frequent caution flags, 1.5 racing groves and the lucky dog. Tire wear was considerable, but what do you get when you combine '92-'07 Bristol and pre-resurfaced Darlington... 2011 Martinsville. 21. But heres my question the 1 st 3 races had 40 some trucks try to make the races and go here they only have 35 cars what happen ?? 24. DaleSrFanForever posted: 04.02.2011 - 11:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I get aggravated by many cautions as well, but that seems to be part of the deal that comes along with good racing. When cars have to be in close quarters and compete for a preferred groove, which is what makes for fun races, contact happens and so do cautions. Best example: The Daytona 500. The amount of cautions this year was awful, but when they were racing it was fun as hell to watch. I guess that becomes the question. The best test case is Old Bristol vs New Bristol. Did I like watching 125 laps of caution? No. But at least when they were racing, and did have to compete for the same space, I found it compelling. Yeah, New Bristol has less cautions, but when they do race, it is too damn sanitized. I'll take the cautions and good racing personally. 25. RCRandPenskeGuy posted: 04.02.2011 - 11:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Good win for Johnny Sauter. Throughout his whole career in NASCAR, I always knew he had some sort of competitive edge in him, and he kind of showed it in 2002 (his rookie year in Busch, I think) when he won and showed potential in a couple of other races but his season was derailed by an injury. I was very surprised when I saw Harvick just pull over and let Hornaday have room to take the 3rd spot. That's not like Kevin at all, but he probably figured, "Hey, he's racing for a championship and I'm not so it wouldn't be smart for my team if we wrecked each other". Jeffrey Earnhardt had a solid top 10 run going before crashing with James Buescher. "The best part was when Harvick got back in contention, and the SPEED truck replayed Mikey talking about how he was out of it for good." Shit, I knew Mikey was going to end up with his foot in his mouth right then and there when he said it. I was watching the race with my Dad, and we both called bullshit on the notion that Harvick was out of contention (unless of course, he got caught up in a wreck). We've seen talented drivers with good equipment make up that many laps to WIN here before, so I pretty much knew Harvick would at least come back and be somewhat of a factor. 26. jensenators posted: 04.02.2011 - 11:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #23- there were 37 on the entry list, the 25 that taylormalsam was driving shut down, and then the 34 crashed in practice and didnt try to qualify, but it was a bit disappointing seeing a short field. 27. We stuck around to get autographs after the race and they were one of the last teams out of the pits. All they had was a pickup truck pulling a small trailer. Caleb got out of the truck and signed some autographs for us. He's a really nice young guy and I hope that he's in more races soon. Caleb reminds me how NASCAR drivers used to be before it was all about the money. I'm a new fan of his now! 28. 18fan posted: 04.03.2011 - 12:31 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Martinsville is one of my favorite racetracks for its history, being the only track on the schedule EVERY SINGLE SEASON in NASCAR history, and for it being the last true short track. With an interesting front of the grid tomorrow, I'm looking forward to a good race that hopefully won't be interrupted by rain. 29. Yesterday was another proving pount of this. Fun race to say the least, but I would call it great even if it had been boring just for one reason: "truckwhackers" got schooled by regulars. That made my day. 31. potatosalad48 posted: 04.03.2011 - 11:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I had no idea anyone had the balls to put the bumper to Kyle. Hell, he was slower than NORM BENNING! In what alternate universe is that possible?! 34. Talon64 posted: 04.04.2011 - 5:13 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Johnny Sauter was my pick to win the championship this year and I'm glad he validated it by beating Kyle for the win. More often than not it was Johnny giving Kyle and Kevin the biggest run for their money last season (5 runner-up finishes, 4 3rd place finishes) and it looks like it's carried over. I'm hoping it's Johnny or Hornaday that wins it, because I'd probably throw up if Crafton managed to win the championship without winning a race. Johnny Sauter gets his 3rd career Truck win (1 win in each of last 3 seasons); he won his 3rd career pole and led the most laps in the race. It's his 24th top five and 34th top ten in only 65 Truck starts. After crashing at Daytona, Ron Hornaday has 3 straight podium finishes. In a Truck that looked like it had no right to finish let alone finish high up the order, Timothy Peters gets his 1st top five of the season. It's his 3rd top five and 6th top ten in 11 starts at his home track. Cole Whitt ties his best career finish with his second 6th place finish of the season, and started on the front row for a 2nd straight race. The rookie is one of only 4 series regulars with 3 top tens so far this season. Ricky Carmichael probably had his best Truck race to date, leading just his 2nd race for 37 laps. So far this season he has two 8th place finish and two finishes in the 30's. Brendan Gaughan gets his 1st top ten of the season, 1st since finishing 10th at Phoenix in November of 2008. Max Papis gets just his 3rd career top ten in 23 Truck starts, but two of them are in 4 Martinsville starts. Matt Crafton's 19 race top 10 streak comes to an end after he finishes 11th. Johanna Long gets her 5th top 20 finish in 11 career Truck starts, but ran better than 18th for most of the race. 35.
