From now on, I will only comment on Cup races that he wins because I end up repeating myself like a broken record every time he wins a Truck or NW race with phrases like "looks like Kyle dominated again" and "I expect him to win every race he enters in this series". Holy crap, Piquet finished 2nd. 2. mrittenhouse84 posted: 04.22.2011 - 11:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Another Busch win in the Kyle Busch Invitational series B...A is the Nationwide...yawn! 3. irony posted: 04.22.2011 - 11:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Great run for Nelson Piquet obviously. Todd Bodine had the only truck capable of beating Kyle but ran in the back of Paludo entering the pits and wasn't competitive after that. Hornaday took the lead late with an awesome dive bomb pass on Kyle but faded on the last restart. 4. Not suprised to see another Busch win, but at least the drivers in this series seem to give him a fight. We all know who will win nationwide tomorrow. 5. I think he honestly, truly believes that somehow his divine presence in the lower series is keeping those series alive, when it's really just taking attention and sponsorship away from the regulars, which in turn is slowly killing the series. Seriously NASCAR, limit how many races Cuppers can run in Nationwide and Trucks. Taking away points has done nothing to meter how often and how many Cuppers insist on choking the life out of this series. I've stopped watching Nationwide because of the Cup parade (which takes valuable wins, top tens, sponsorship and just plain attention away from regulars), and I really love the Truck series, or used to anyways... Please NASCAR, don't let the Truck series become just another playground/ego booster for Cup guys without enough balls to beat Jimmie. 17. Wow, this is only the 200th time this identical post has been said after a race. You do realize that Kyle started his truck team with intention of running some young drivers, right? And then he lost his sponsorship? And then those young drivers (Ickler, Malsam) left, and now just to keep the team afloat he has to drive the truck himself? For god's sake, did you not watch or read any news at all when this was happening?! I feel like I'm the only one who remembers this, and it was only a year ago basically. Busch wouldn't be running his truck as much if Miccosukee hadn't pulled sponsorship. He was even going to run a truck for Johnny Benson, in addition to cultivating young talent, but he got screwed. His team is a business. To continue making money and to keep it going, and all his employees keep their jobs, he has to run these races? Sorry that you're so against capitalism, entrepreneurship, and giving hard-working American jobs. But go on, keep posting the same exact complaint that everybody does, every single race. You know in the Nationwide series that those Gibbs teams can't find full season sponsorships for Brian Scott, Matt Dibenidetto, or their other young drivers, right? Companies are only forking over the money if Busch, or Logano, or Hamlin are in the cars. Once again, it is almost entirely a business decision, to keep those teams afloat. These race teams are a business, not a place to go for hand-outs. This is America, not communist China. So, get over it. Blame the economy, blame the sponsors, don't blame the drivers or teams doing what they have to do to make money, pay their employees, and stay in business. Jesus christ, I am tired of all the complaining about these races. No one is forcing anyone to watch them. This site has the biggest collection of whining, ignorant, babies I've ever seen. 18. It has occurred to me, but then I remembered that I've been watching racing for longer than 4 years. It's the economy. How do you think it went from what it was, with all the sponsors being willing to take a chance, to what it is now? What, did all the sponsors get together in secret and say, "you know what, we're tired of taking a chance and giving money to young drivers."? To people like you, it's so simple. Busch, Edwards, and Keselowski are just ego-driven maniacs that don't care if they ruin racing, as long as they win races to feed an insatiable craving for attention. But that's such a simplified view, and one based totally on assumption I might add. Money makes the world go round. It's business, and it's money. 24. If only full sponsorship could have come along with Benson and KBM. What could have been? You do realize that Kyle started his truck team with intention of running some young drivers, right? And it was 100 zillion times better without the Cup tracks. And a million zillion times better without a Waltrip in the booth. The only thing better today is we get every race (except Dover) live even when there's a rain delay. But I'd trade that for everything else. Doesn't matter, I've boycotted Dollar General, and that's where I did all my Christmas shopping (but don't tell anyone). 30. I do think it is more NASCAR's fault than anybody else's for the problems with this series and the trucks. Like the other guy said, it's hard to blame the teams for trying to make the most money and win the most races they can by following the rules NASCAR has set up, especially in this economy and with how hard it is to come by with sponsorship. There are a lot of people being employed and paid because of Kyle Busch, I'll give him that. And if Joe Gibbs or Jack Roush really wanted to train a bunch of future Cup drivers, they simply wouldn't let Kyle or Carl in the cars. It's not like they are going up to their owners, begging them to let them run the races. A lot of people like to characterize it like that, but that's just not the case. Those owners would put their foot down if need be, they aren't going to be bossed around by their drivers. And truthfully, teams like Gibbs and Roush just don't need any new Cup drivers right now. Well David Ragan is probably going to be out of a job soon, but Trevor Bayne has already proven himself and will most likely take that ride. But unless Gibbs is planning on adding a 4th car any time soon, their Cup line up is set for the next decade. So what is NASCAR supposed to do, tell them they aren't allowed to run a Nationwide team because they aren't cultivating a future Cup driver? Well they haven't, so Gibbs can just keep going along winning these races until a rule says they can't. I think NASCAR is afraid that if they restrict the Cup presence in the series, the major sponsors will pull out completely, then the smaller sponsors will leave, and the series will die. Then how many people are out of a decent paying job? NASCAR needs to decide what they want the identity of these series to be, and do everything they can to make sure it works within that frame. Is it a minor league? A feeder series? The NASCAR equivalent of the UFL? A cheaper way to see your favorite Cup stars? Because right now it's like a combination of all that, and more, and clearly the fans are getting tired. The solution to making this series might not be to just limit Cup drivers. It might be cutting down the number of races significantly, cutting the costs to run a successful team (engines, parts, tires), cheaper tickets, better options for sponsors to contribute and feel they are getting their moneys worth, a schedule that centralizes the tracks to cut travel costs, who knows. I don't know what needs to be done, but I think cutting down Cup drivers would just be treating a symptom, rather than attacking the root of the problem. 31. Before he took over the #18, Eric was the crew chief of the #5 truck driven by Skinner in 2009, who had a pretty solid season. After the 2009 season when Eric and Rick Ren joined KBM, Skinner and Hornaday's careers haven't been the same since. Also, its nice to watch the #5 team struggle this year after unjustly releasing Skinner last season. 32. Jarrett88fan posted: 04.24.2011 - 1:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ding... Ding... All the possible solutions you mentioned should (and probably are) being considered by Nascar because the status quo is unsustainable. I think NASCAR is afraid that if they restrict the Cup presence in the series, the major sponsors will pull out completely, then the smaller sponsors will leave, and the series will die. Whoa, I wouldn't go that far. But it makes you think, if a bunch of people on an internet forum can figure these things out, there must be a bunch of really smart people, being paid a lot of money working for NASCAR, that have come to the same conclusions. So maybe there is hope. NASCAR knows something is wrong, that's why they switched the points system in the first place. They just couldn't completely eliminate Cup drivers for fear of the series collapsing. Honestly I think the simplest solution is cutting down the number of races in the Nationwide series. It's tough finding a sponsor willing to fork over millions to keep their name on a car for 35 races. That's why the Truck series is in less danger. It already has fewer Cup drivers, and more standalone events. 25 races works better for small teams. Also, I accidentally posted my original comment without realizing I was doing it on the Truck race page, rather than the Nationwide race page. So when I was saying "this series", it was referring to the Nationwide series. That's the one that's really broken, I think the Truck series is in alright shape. Had Kyle Busch's team worked out like he had planned, it would be doing even better. Some of the same points apply, though, it's not perfect. 34. SPEED made a big deal about this being their 200th broadcast since they started showing the Truck Series in 2003, and Kyle has the most wins through SPEED's run with a .13 winning %. Nelson Piquet Jr. gets his best career finish in 10 starts, being the highest finishing rookie in 2nd. It's also his first career top 5, and moves him up 8 spots from 25th to 17th in the drivers standings and the #8 up 10 spots from 31st to 21st in the owners standings so now he's locked into the show. Timothy Peters gets his 3rd straight top 10 finish, and 4th straight top 5 at Nashville. Ron Hornaday gets his 4th straight top 5 finish; he's moved up from 23rd to 4th in the points in that stretch. James Buescher gets his 2nd top 5 and 3rd top 10 in 4 starts this season. If it weren't for the DNQ at Phoenix and finishing 35th at Martinsville he'd be a title threat. But this was the 1st race for Buescher and the #31 since last season that they were locked into the race (didn't enter every race in 2010 so not locked in until it reverted to 2011 owners points). Matt Crafton hasn't finished worse than 11th this season, but no better than 4th. Johnny Sauter gets his 4th straight top 10. David Starr gets his 2nd top 10 of the season but has finishes of 26th and 34th to leave him 13th in the standings; he's gone 33 straight races without a top 5. Craig Goess gets his 2nd top 10 in 7 career Truck starts. With Parker Kligerman getting his first top 10 of the season (2nd top 10 in 14 career starts), 7 different rookies have at least 1 top ten in the first 5 races of the season. Rookie Cole Whitt gets his 5th straight top 15 finish (3 top 10's, 9.2 avg fin). 36. 18fan posted: 04.27.2011 - 1:38 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It'll be interesting to see as the year goes on if Piquet's run was a fluke or the beginning of success. 37.
