He's ran every lap this year, doesn't have a finish worse than 23rd, and is 7th in the point standings. I still don't think Crafton has what it takes to win the championship. But he'll probably prove me wrong. 5. RCRandPenskeGuy posted: 05.13.2011 - 10:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) What a run for Cole Whitt. It would have been nice to see him get his first Truck win, but I'm sure he'll take second for now. After a while, it'll start to get old. lol 6. Dodge posted: 05.13.2011 - 10:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I agree Cooper on both your points....First, who would of said that after 6 races, Max would be the highest Germain driver in points? I was thinking he would be 2nd or third, behind Bodine and Gaughan would be right with him. Lofton isn't even in their league but will be guaranteed a ride since his family sponsors his ride. As for Crafton, I have NEVER thought he was a good driver. The last few years he has looked better but 1 win in 200+ NCWTS races is not going to win a championship EVER. Johnny Sauter has more wins in less races. 7. Anonymous posted: 05.13.2011 - 10:56 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Kyle Busch's 96th NASCAR national touring series win. RR posted: 05.13.2011 - 11:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I can't say I like seeing Cole Whitt finishing in second. That's not because I don't like him -- I actually am a bit biased towards people with an open wheel background -- because I really do like him. But looking at Red Bull's history, I have a gut feeling that they'll rush him up way to quick based on these results, like they did Scott Speed (despite Speed's objections). With Red Bull having potentially two vacancies next year, I hope they resist the temptation of putting Whitt in one of the cars. 10. I'm not sure why the Dover truck race is always tape delayed. 11. Johanna Long finally had a decent performance. Ron Hornaday had his worst performance in a long time but pulled his restart magic at the end for a top 10. Hornaday, Sauter, and Whitt are probably the title contenders this year but you can never count out Bodine. 14. 00andJoe posted: 05.14.2011 - 12:05 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Both Kleigerman and Johanna Long had great runs spoiled right there at the end. Too bad. Great run by Whitt though. 15. 18fan posted: 05.14.2011 - 12:28 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The last lap crash was a product of three wide into turn 1 as Peters hit Piquet because if the #17 went low he would've been spun by Johnny Sauter. 16. Running in top-5 most of the race, having good pit-stops, making no mistakes. It all stopped to matter after Parker risked with a brave attempt of the pass for the second position on the closing laps. Car went loose and that was all... Still, I'm glad that #29 is improving throughout the season. Hopefully Kligerman will rebound in Charlotte. Race was OK despite Kryle domination. Lots of fights for position here and there, great performance by Cole Whitt and Joey Coulter. I don't regret that I woke up at 3AM to watch this race. 18. Chas posted: 05.14.2011 - 9:08 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Crafton likely won't be a guy who wins dozens of races, but that doesn't make him a bad driver. He consistently racks up top tens, top fives, and the only reason he doesn't have more wins is the recent influx of Cup drivers in the Truck Series. 19. Vyle Busch posted: 05.14.2011 - 11:16 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I wish NASCAR'd make a rule that drivers can ONLY participate in one of the three main series in a year, or at the very least limit Sprint Cup drivers to 5 or less races in the lower series. What's the point of even keeping track of the Truck standings when Cup drivers win 90% of the races? Kyle's probably going to win 20 truck races this year while the champ'll be lucky to have one win. 20. Jarrett88fan posted: 05.14.2011 - 12:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) While I'm impressed by the Thor Trucks of Crafton and Sauter, Hornaday is right there in points despite wrecking at Daytona... It would be interesting if KHI were to pull off the Truck Championship with Hornaday and the Nationwide with Sadler. Right now, both KHI teams are rounding into title contention and with a little consistency, Hornaday and Sadler will be tough to handle. Crafton is in the best position right now because of his consistency, but all that could change, he needs to lead laps and get bonus points combined with at least one win. 21. What's happening to this series ? 22. 00andJoe posted: 05.14.2011 - 12:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #19 - I've suggested on the Nationwide Series discussions that perhaps the logical solution would be to prohibit drivers who are in the top 35 in Cup from competing in NASCAR-sanctioned races in other series on the same weekend as a Cup race, unless they're Cup rookies or replacing an injured driver over the course of a weekend. This would solve both the 'Buschwhacker' problem, and defend the position that tracks that only have lower-series races benifit from having Cup drivers enter... #21 - Apparently neither Ford or Dodge have the budget for manufactuers' support in the Truck Series anymore. Hopefully, that will change... 23. Anonymous posted: 05.15.2011 - 2:29 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I love it when people complain about Kyle Busch winning these races. The solution to this problem is simple: beat him. All the other drivers have to do is beat him. NASCAR isn't some socialist enterprise, they don't just hand out wins because you showed up. All the other teams have to do is beat one car, or truck. And if you think your cars aren't fast enough, then work to make them better. You can't just expect Busch's team to do a worse job, if they are setting the bar, work to match it. These teams have had years now to catch up. And if they can't, they don't deserve to win, simple as that. Now here comes the people saying, "he shouldn't be here! he's too good for the series! It's not fair!". First off, that's an insult to the other drivers and teams. Second, that makes you sound like a little b****. Kyle Busch is making these drivers better. He's playing by the rules, just like everyone else. So just beat him, problem solved. 26. irony posted: 05.16.2011 - 3:09 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The drivers in this series have combined for zero Cup wins, and don't get to practice in three different series before the race. Kyle is supposed to be a top Cup talent, and the few times he is beaten by these guys should be an embarrassment. 27. Talon64 posted: 05.16.2011 - 6:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kyle got his 27th career Truck win. Cole Whitt gets his best career finish in 2nd, also his 1st top 5 in just his 7th career start. Thanks to the domination of Kyle Busch, Cole is 3rd in laps led this season among series regulars (5th overall). Matt Crafton got his best finish of the season in 3rd, and T-series-leading 5th top 10. I think he could win the championship this year without winning a race, and if he did then it would be an absolute shame and would make him the worst champion in series history. The champion in any series should at least be among the best drivers that season, if not outright the best, and not winning a single race would automatically take him out of that. I'm hoping Johnny Sauter, Ron Hornaday or even Cole Whitt can win a/some races and take over the championship. Austin Dillon gets his 2nd top 5 of the season. Dillon only had 2 top 10's, a best finish of 6th, a 15.5 avg fin and was 11th in points in the first 6 races of 2010 but he's improved in all of those areas in 2011 as a sophomore. Kevin Harvick gets his 15th top 5 in his last 16 Truck Series starts. Rookie Joey Coulter gets his best-career finish in 6th, his 2nd top 10 of the season. He moved into a tie with Nelson Piquet Jr. for 2nd in the ROTY battle but is 34 points behind leader Cole Whitt (83 points). Even if you don't understand the ROTY points system you can see how huge that is. Brendan Gaughan gets his 2nd top 10 of the season. I keep forgetting he's driving for Germain this season, which makes his season somewhat more disappointing so far. But he has more top 10's than Bodine which blows my mind. James Buescher gets his 4th top 10 in 5 starts this season. If it weren't for the DNQ at Phoenix and the crash at Martinsville he'd easily be a championship contender. Ron Hornaday gets his 5th straight top 10 finish, but his 4 race top 5 streak comes to an end. It's his 5th top 10 in 7 Dover starts. Justin Marks won his 2nd career Truck Series pole and picked up just his 3rd top 10 in 28 starts. 28. You can't get better by being destitute and being made further destitute against millionaire cup drivers who have nothing to lose if they wreck a few people. It's $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Jeff Burton said so in a NASCAR.om interview a few years ago. 29. You mean Busch's team that struggles to find sponsorship, and that he has had to fund out of his own pocket just to stay afloat? That's the team they are worried about beating? Oh, booooooo hooooooo. If you're looking for a socialist racing series, look somewhere else. NASCAR doesn't give out wins for showing up. They don't spread around top 5's to make sure everyone's team is going to stay in business. I don't know when NASCAR fans turned into such whiny pinko commie idiots, but I commend Busch for wanting to expand his own business and make money. Seems pretty American, and capitalist to me. He wants to make money, and win, like every race car driver should. He plays by the rules like everyone else, and if you don't like it, just keep crying like a baby, because that's going to be real effective. 30. irony posted: 05.19.2011 - 11:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) So again, would you watch this series without Kyle? Are do you just like b1tching about fans who are actually fans? The guy has the money to fund his team out of his pocket and still out fund the other teams in this series. KHI has done it for an entire season, and even after two titles they struggle to sponsor the 33 week-to-week. IWX/Xpress did it and won two titles. Germain just won the title with a very small budget. Welcome to the Truck Series, this is what it's like for everybody. And NASCAR has nothing to do with politics. 31. Anonymous posted: 05.20.2011 - 7:08 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I am sorry if I came across that way (especially, right wing all the way). My point was this: is it possible that other teams don't give it 100% for fear of destroying the truck? As far as sponsorship, I don't think small, low budget companies don't want to take a risk sponsoring Shrub's truck team because of the bad boy image despite his talent. He is new in ownership still and will eventually have sponsors crawling on his doorstep. But could guys like Crafton throw a race and finish 6th because 1 wreck could mean folding (we could only guess without financial records)? 32. cjs3872 posted: 05.20.2011 - 10:34 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Does anyone think that Carmichael's crash reminds you of Danny Ongais' 1981 Indianapolis 500 crash that severely broke his legs, or the crash that killed Gordon Smiley at Indy a year later as he was warming up for a qualification attempt, because it was the EXACT same kind of crash. Thank heavens that Carmichael escpaed, basically uninjured. 33.
