On the last restart, he jumped in front of Hornaday before passing the start/finish line, resulting in a black flag and 22nd place finish. Career best finishes for Parker Kligerman, Ryan Sieg, and David Mayhew. Steve Arpin's first Truck race. 2. Look similar to Mike Skinner's crash at Charlotte a couple years ago, although sans the airbourne truck. Crafton walked on the track and pulled a "what the hell were you thinking" after a close racing incident between him and Austin Dillon. Became a fan of Brian Ickler and David Mayhew tonight. Especially Mayhew. First start for KHI, and he's freaking mixing it up for the win. QUICK, SOMEBODY SIGN THIS KID. Plus, he was probably the most humble person ever in his post race. Was pulling for Sauter, but that was a STUPID move on his part. COME ON! At least Hornaday got the win. Hopefully the Truck Series king can string together another summer run that he's famous for. 3. Dodge posted: 06.11.2011 - 9:19 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) That has to be the stupidest rule that NASCAR has. I didn't like it when they flagged Ragan and I still don't like it. Let's an a**hole like Hornaday win. I don't like Sauter either but he is more respectable in my opinion. I didn't watch the whole race, just bits and pieces until the last about 40. Did see the Austin Dillon/ Matt Crafton wreck and I think Dillon could of cracked the throttle. Tough break for Johanna Long, sure she finished 11 (career Best) but got a truck torn up as Kvapail and a driver that is out of his league, Lofton got together. 4. With 4 laps to go, Sauter radioed in to his crew that his fuel pressure gauges read 0. He lost the race for neither of those reasons. If he's going to win this championship, he has to handle big pressure situations. Hopefully he learns from this... 5. And as a Sauter fan, I pretty much knew what was coming once he turned into Hornaday's lane. Just a dumb move on Johnny's part, especially considering how much they've been policing the rule this season. 10. roygbiv posted: 06.11.2011 - 12:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeah, I agree. Rusty posted: 06.11.2011 - 1:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This was a pretty good race. Shows you don't need Cup drivers in these series to put on a good show. Sauter pulled off one of those moves that could haunt you forever if it costs you the championship. He had the best truck and would've won without pulling in front of Hornaday. At worst, he finishes 2nd but he ends up 22nd. Austin Dillon had the only truck as good as Sauter's but he got caught up in an incident with Matt Crafton early and then got taken out with Steve Arpin when he was finally moving his way back into the top 10. 14. Ivan Balakhonov posted: 06.11.2011 - 2:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Great to see Parker Kligerman and his team getting stronger and stronger every race. It's very hard for him to compete with series' aces given the fact that he has not superior equipment at his disposal, but somehow this guy delivers good finishes. Thanks to Brad Keselowski and Roger Pensker for giving the guy an opportunity to grow and develop as a driver. Go, Parker! Next step is the maiden victory in NASCAR. By the way the racing was exceptional the whole distance. This year CWTS improved greatly in terms of races' quality. Great pleasure to watch this series again. 15. dUDE gUY posted: 06.11.2011 - 2:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) roygbiv, it is better because he is a Truck series regular. The truck series isn't exclusively a feeder series for Cup, although a lot of Cup talent did come from there. It is it's own separate series with it's own identity, like the K&N modifieds are or ARCA. And like the modifieds or ARCA, some people move up while most people stay or get shot down. Hornaday did move up, but his career in Cup went pretty much nowhere because he almost always drove in mid-pack or back of the back rides. Although I do agree he probably could have done better in Nationwide considering the teams he drove for in that series. Either way, Hornaday winning this race is, in my opinion, is better than a Cup guy trying to prove how great he is by beating up on people who are on a level he has already surpassed. Aaaaanyways, the race was awesome. New records for lap leaders and lead changes for this track were set, and a lot of people who usually don't make a lot of noise got some attention and good finishes as well. All in all a very enjoyable race. 16. Schwab posted: 06.11.2011 - 2:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) A tough year for Todd Bodine continues after him wrecked himself and David Starr in this race. After 9 races last season, Bodine had 8 top 5s and 184 laps led. This year he has 2 top 5s and only 11 laps led and sits behind both of his teammates in the points standings. I'm curious if the expansion to three full time teams by Germain Racing has hurt the #30 team. 17. But he's ahead of Justin loftin ( the forgotten teammate) who someone posted earlier that he was out his league. Good race overall, let's not jump on the David mayhew bandwagon just yet but I think Kevin should step out of the 2 and let him run some more races so he can come into his own. 22. I always go to the races at Texas and one things for sure, never any attendance problems. Does anybody remember the 05 nashville busch race when the top 4 or 5 cars wrecked on the backstretch on the white flag lap. Mikey and Johnny Sauter made it through, Mikey just edged Sauter by half a car length when the caution light came on. Sauter gets out of his car, pissed thinking he was ahead of Mikey, and with his "the whole world is against me" attitude that the entire Sauter family carries, says something along the lines of how nascar will do anything to keep me out of victory lane. I instantly thought of that when he was black flagged and I giggled my ass off. Glad to see a driver get a chance at a good ride that actually has talent over money and turn in a good finish with it. Im speaking of David Mayhew and Parker Kligerman. Also, im not entirely sold on Brian Ickler. I've paid attention to him over the past few years and he can be fast but, he is pretty erratic and all over the place at times. I think if he'd back it off a notch and run consistant laps, he might get better finishes. I really hope nascar is paying attention to what is going on here...No cup drivers = exciting races. It's that simple. I'm just gonna stick this out there - Chase Mattioli is the new John Wes Townley. 29. 12345Dude posted: 06.12.2011 - 11:28 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "I'm just gonna stick this out there - Chase Mattioli is the new John Wes Townley." "I really hope nascar is paying attention to what is going on here...No cup drivers = exciting races. It's that simple." I've been saying this for a while. 15 race limit in nationwide and 10 race limit in truck (for cup guys). I've done the re-search (am I HUGE stat freak), it would work better than you could imagine. I think people are getting too excited about the nationwide series. Both races were won, on stand alone events. I have yet to see a nationwide regular compete for a win, in a non stand alone event. It might be getting better, but I'm to afraid to get my hopes up. Also I'm happy people aren't saying on here "praise nascar and Bill France for not allowing cup guys to get points." I think what happen instead was, the cup guys (minus Keselowski,Edwards,Busch some others) realized, man were killing our sport. Nationwide regulars never win, and can't get sponsorship. And were killing the future of this sport. And I think it's them, who have decided to ease off on the # of races they race. Not the no points rule. And Dodge what did Hornaday ever do to you? He seems like a fine dude. I have no problems with him. 30. 12345Dude posted: 06.12.2011 - 11:30 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Some random topics mentioned on my last post, but I'm curious to see what you guys think. 31. They realized that there was no talent left in the pool. Alot of the top drivers of today are around the same age ( Johnson, jr, harvick, Stewart, kenseth etc) and will either retire or their performance will drop around the same time. Who will fill their spots? So i will agree with the # of races idea but they still should not be able to earn points. Just my opinion. 32. irony posted: 06.12.2011 - 9:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Chase Mattioli is of a wealthy family. They own Pocono Raceway in fact. 33. I think this rule will have a good long term effect as Cup guys keep pulling back because there is little for them to gain by running so much. Eventually we will get back to the good old days when major companion races (the Daytonas, Charlottes, etc) saw great battles between Cup stars and Nwide or Truck regulars. And Igloo touched on the point I have been trying make. The talent pipeline has dried up, and it is severely affecting the Cup Series. Hopefully this will eventually allow these drivers to actually develop and bring new blood to Cup. 34. As long as they are only running the occasional race and not nearly every race, that's fine by me. It would be nice to see regulars winning in NWide on a regular basis again. Too many Cup drivers with sharp experience and their Cup teams run every week currently. Because NWide regulars don't have much Cup experience, they don't fare as well all the time, even in good equipment. 35. Who will fill their spots?" Trevor Bayne, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Justin Allgaier, Austin Dillon, Parker Kilgerman, Aric Almirola, Cole Whitt, Ryan Truex, and due to their connections but not necessarily talent, Danica Patrick and Steve Wallace. Some of these guys are already getting opportunities to prove themselves on higher levels, and are having success against Cup drivers in the lower series. Also consider the fact that there could be several drivers in Cup already who might be great candidates for a better ride in a few years. Guys like Regan Smith, AJ Allmendinger, Brian Vickers, Paul Menard, Martin Truex Jr, Marcos Ambrose, could all possibly become drivers who are only missing a top ride and could be a regular winning driver. People who have this doomsday mindset that the Cup series is somehow in danger of running out of drivers, or talent, or think the ladder to the Cup series is broken, confuse me. Do you not watch the races? There just aren't a lot of good rides opening in Cup right now, but as they open, you're going to get a guy who deserves a shot in there. The owners aren't blind. They have the ability to watch Nationwide and Truck races, see a driver do well but not necessarily win, and through the use of their brain, make a decision on whether or not that driver could drive a Cup car. Just as they have always done. These people know a hell of a lot more about the sport than you do, they have teams of people dedicated to finding drivers and discussing whether or not they are any good, and they have millions and millions of dollars invested in making the right decision. And yet some people think that these teams, aren't going to pick up on the fact that a driver like Justin Allgaier, for example, *might* be a good pick to put in a Cup car, even though he doesn't dominate the Nationwide series? These owners can see a 5th place finish behind 4 Cup drivers as a positive, just like you can. The Cup series is not going to run out talent, or young drivers, or anything ever. And thinking that it is somehow in danger of doing so, is dumb. 36. It's KHI's 35th win in the Trucks, and CC Jeff Hensley's 11th career win. Hensley has won with a different driver in each of the last 3 seasons (Brian Scott in 2009, Timothy Peters in 2010, Hornaday this season), and has won with 4 different drivers (8 wins from 2005-2007 with Mike Skinner). Parker Kligerman finished a career-best 2nd in his 10th series start (highest finishing rookie in the race). Parker has 3 top 10's and is 8th in the points standings. David Mayhew gets his first career top 5 in 3rd in just his 5th series start; Mayhew has 3 K&N Pro West Series wins since 2009, finished 2nd in points in 2010 and is currently 4th this season. Brian Ickler finishes 4th in his first start of 2011, his 5th career top 5 in 19 starts in the Trucks. The #18 has a 47 point lead in the owners standings, 1 point off of being an entire race. Joey Coulter qualified a career-best 2nd and backed it up with his 2nd consecutive 5th place finish (career-best finish). It's his 3rd top 10 in the last 4 races, which has moved him up from 21st to 9th in the standings. Ricky Carmichael got his best finish of the season in 6th, his 3rd top 10 of 2011 and 14th top 10 in 52 career Truck starts. Ryan Sieg got his best career finish in 7th, his first top 10 of the season and the 4th of his career in 44 starts. Miguel Paludo got his first top 10 since a 4th place finish at Daytona to start the season, a span of 7 races without one. James Buescher won his 1st career Truck Series pole after qualifying 2nd six times since last season (but has 2 career NNS poles). Buescher recovered from damaging his splitter during the Dillon/Crafton incident to get his 7th top 10 in 8 starts this season; despite the DNQ at Phoenix and 35th place finish at Martinsville he's 7th in pts and only 14 points behind 3rd. I keep on mixing up Justin Lofton with Justin Marks. I was thinking the Lofton hate was unjustified since he'd had a couple top 10's and a pole but so much for that; this was Lofton's first top 10 of the season. Johanna Long got her best career finish in 11th, making it 4 rookies in the top 11. The #20 is 28th in the owners standings, 28 points behind the #32 for a locked-in spot. Since Matt Crafton's 19 race top 10 streak came to an end he only has 2 in the last 5 races; for a 2nd straight year Matt Crafton's gone 3 straight races without a top 10 through races 7-9 on the season. 37.
