He was midpack, spun out, got new tires and got his truck dialed in, and drove past everyone to win. 6. Josh Richards finishes outside the Top 20 for his 3rd straght race with KBM. While Ross Chastain finishes 10th in his Camping World Truck Series debut, driving a B-grade truck. Kinda makes you think. 7. KurtBusch22Fan posted: 07.29.2011 - 10:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Great run for Kligerman. Sadly, couldn't get the job done. Shame this great little track will be replaced and the only racing in Indianapolis this weekend next year (except a possible ARCA race here) will be the SuperBoring weekend. 9. Austin Dillon won at Nashville aftrer dominating the race at Iowa, and now Timothy Peters wins this race after dominating the race at Nashville. If this trend continues, James Buescher, who dominated most of this race and finished second, moving to within 20 points of the lead, wins the next race. If he does, he might move into the points lead in a series that, like the Nationwide Series, has a championship battle that nobody seems to want to win. After all, every time that it seemed that Johnny Sauter had a chance to put everyone else away, he did something that put everyone else back in the title race. And now, when it seemed that Austin Dillon had a chance to take the points lead for the first time, he gets run into the wall by Todd Bodine on the next-to-last lap, but with so many cars running out of fuel, Dillon only lost about four or five positions, so it didn't actually hurt him that badly. Only seven finished on the lead lap, and Austin was shown ninth in the unofficial results, but I suspect that he will be dropped to the last truck one lap behind, which would actually put him in the 13th position. Bodine later admitted after the race that he simply didn't know that Dillon was on his outside after Miguel Paludo had passed both of them. Bodine also had cords showing on his right front tire, as he only changed tires once during the entire race. (His last pit stop on lap 92 was a fuel-only stop.) 11. cjs3872 posted: 07.29.2011 - 10:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yes, Anonymous, from 1978, when Sneva won the USAC title without winning any races, although he won seven poles, finished second six times, and finished third four times. however, Buescher may have already passed Sneva's laps led total from that year. Sneva only led 117 laps in the 18-race IndyCar season in 1978. And you may or may not know that Sneva was fired for not racing aggressive enough that season, and was replaced by Bobby Unser. Buescher led 97 laps in this race alone. 12. 00andJoe posted: 07.29.2011 - 10:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #5 sponsor: Big Red / International Trucks 13. cjs3872 posted: 07.29.2011 - 10:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) And let's not forget that Elliott Sadler has been leading the points in the Nationwide Series until his problems last week dropped him to third in the points standings, and his best finish in the NNS this year has been a third. And as I mentioned in post #10, much like the Truck Series, nobody seems to want to win the Nationwide Series championship this year, either, as Sadler, Reed Sorenson (in two Turner Motorsports cars), Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., and Justin Allgaier are jockeying for the top positions, with no one taking control. The moment it seems that someone begins to take some command of the situation, BOOM, something happens to him. But with the collection of tracks coming up, if Ricky Stenhouse gets by the back-to-back road course events without major problems, it's going to be hard for me to imagine someone beating him out for the championship, as all of Roush's focus on the Nationwide side will be on getting Stenhouse the title. Certainly Trevor Bayne, and possibly even Carl Edwards, will be asked to do whatever it takes to get Stenhouse the title, even having Edwards give him positions late in races. Bayne can't be asked to back off for him, since to do that, he would actually have to be racing Stenhouse, and he won't be anywhere near him on the track anyway. 14. 18fan posted: 07.29.2011 - 11:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Both Kligerman and Piquet Jr. suffered from their crew chiefs gambling that the race would end at half distance due to rain. Both had top 10 trucks and finished 11th and 14th respectively. Todd Bodine was on a similar strategy and had similar results. 15. It's actually a mistake by NASCAR by labeling Ricky as "running" and not "out of gas". Because Carmichael ran out of gas on Lap 198 and not Lap 197, he can't be positioned below any of the guys who completed Lap 197. Also, NASCAR probably gave the #4 team permission to move their vehicle considering everyone was going home. 18. c2 posted: 07.29.2011 - 11:26 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) 35 of the 36 trucks were running past halfway, you don't see that often. 19. 00andJoe posted: 07.30.2011 - 12:05 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Cooper - Ah. First, what a comeback for Timothy Peters after na$car robbed him last week. Very beautiful win - did we see often such a perfect and very long run on a short track? Second, how luck changed to Austin Dillon who was credited that fake win at Nashville and made such stupid trick to celebrate with funny end of it. Hey, Austin - how about to dive into that pond to wash your sadness? Really, once again he sucked up solid top5 with unable to value situation in terms of fuel. Bodine happened to many-many drivers, so just bad luck. Third, standings situation. Sauter has truck to beat in 80% of races, in other it's for top 5. And he or his team continue to make mistakes that cost more and more as far as season goes. And how about James Buescher who actually missed the whole race and now in contention? This thing couldn't be as possible with an old system. Also Sadler proved once again he has no talent. Very likely, it was the best race of the weekend! 26. potatosalad48 posted: 07.30.2011 - 4:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Was Timothy Peters' truck that fast or did James Buescher slow down at the end because Peters caught him fast. 27. The racing here is top notch. Of course Nascar decided they don't need to race here anymore so they can "rejuvenate" the Brickyard with a "Super (Boring) Weekend". Classic. So nice to see a long green run to the end with the inevitable shakeups that come along with that. Sure beats "let's throw a phantom debris caution, bunch em up, then watch em pile up". The fact that Todd has won the championship in this Series, twice no less, is a black eye. I think Timothy Peters has potential in higher series. 29. As for Dillon, I am glad that Todd bodyslammed the clown into the wall even if it was by accident. Wish more drivers would do that to show both Dillon's that they aren't going to make it their personal playgrounds with grampy Childress's superior money and equipment. What I meant is that right now Dillon has the best organization in the Truck series by far that he drives for. He competes against a team from Ohio, Thorsport and teams that don't have all of the resources. Sure Germain has 2 cup teams, the 60 that S&P's and the 13 with the no talent Mears but the Germain isn't even that good of an organization in Cup and if they want to be someday, Mears needs to go. 35. This is his first win since Daytona last year, and all his three wins have come at different tracks. The fact that he won a race with an unsponsored truck with a weak team and is in the top 5 in points cannot be understated. It is unbelievable to think that the #31 team would DNQ for Phoenix, and then go on to score top 10s in all but one race and be in the championship hunt halfway through the season. They will definitely win some races this year. It is a real shame for a unique short track like this to lose the only dates it has. 36. RCRandPenskeGuy posted: 07.30.2011 - 1:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Since a couple have mentioned Elliott Sadler, I am wondering when he is finally going to win a race. Sure, KHI isn't a Cup organization but it's still one of the best Truck/Nationwide teams and Elliott hasn't exactly been a contender for wins despite all his Cup experience. He's been wildly consistent in the Nationwide series and in the Truck races he has run though. NASCAR, I hope you're happy. This is the kind of racing you are giving up for IMS (which won't even come close). Good performance by Timothy Peters though. You can't overlook what he has done with minimal sponsorship. 37. irony posted: 07.30.2011 - 1:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) FWIW, I think Thorsport is the best team right now. RCR has better equipment, but Thorsport has nailed the setups. While last night wasn't the driver's fault, I don't think Sauter has the frame of mind to win the championship. 38. cjs3872 posted: 07.30.2011 - 2:13 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) RCRandPenskeGuy, a main reason that Sadler hasn't been contending for victories is simply that, to be a contender for the championship, you must first finish races, and being conservative is a big key to doing that, and I think that Sadler and KHI is racing conservatively, running just to finish in the top ten, with occasional top five finishes. They know that consistent top tens will pay off more than two or three top fives with the occasional bad finish thrown in. That was the exact same strategy that Trevor Bayne was using until he got sick. He was only seven points out of the lead at the time that illness took him out of the car at Richmond, but had not posted a finish better than fifth. So consistent finishes pay off more than running up front, mixed in with an occasional bad finish, due to overaggressiveness. 39. cjs3872 posted: 07.30.2011 - 2:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) By the way, even though the announced attendance was 24,000,it sure didn't seem that there was anywhere near that may paople there from watching the race on TV. It looke to me that only about 18,000-20,000 showed up. But that's just one person's observation. Still, that's far less than what was expected. Certainly the threatening weather had something to do with it, as well as the heat, so we must give allowance for that. And by the way, was anyopne else surprised that NASCAR allowed 17 laps to be run under caution during that rain shower. After all, that was nearly 10% of the race distance run under just one caution period. 40. 12345Dude posted: 07.30.2011 - 4:47 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I need to give credit to a few drivers. Kyle Busch: Once again not racing a nationwide or truck race. And it's smart. Indy is a track where the whole team has to work together. It a lot like racing in the chase. It was very smart of him, to only run Indy this week. Austin Dillion: If I was Austin Dillion after this race, I would of been screaming at Todd Bodine. I can't believe how calm he was. I really gained a lot of respect for him, after this race. This was the first time in a race, I was happy that there might of been a chance of rain. Around laps 90-120 the racing was insane. I was also thinking about the chase. I'm so happy nascar only decided to put the chase in the Sprint Cup Series. Could you imagine a chase in the trucks and nationwide. Where right now, we would be deciding who would be in the top 12? Very happy about that. Now we need to get rid of it in the cup series. I was really surprises how conservative Dillion got. I know he could of ran out of fuel. But still. He was dropping fast, at the end of this race. This racing is 20 times better than in Cup & Nationwide. More people should watch this series. I'm also cheering for James Buescher to win the title. If he wins the title, while missing a race. That would be crazy. I also want him to win because I don't want to see Johnny Sauter (Kurt Busch of the truck Series) win. 41. After going 6 straight races without a top 10, Peters now has back-to-back top 5's. James Buescher led a career-high 97 laps and finished 2nd for the 3rd time in his career. It's his series-leading 11th top 10 in 12 starts and his 5th top 5 is tied with Johnny Sauter for the 2nd most this season among series regulars. David Starr gets his first top 5 since Talladega 2009 and best finish since finishing 3rd at Memphis that year. It's also his 4th straight top 10 finish. Miguel Paludo was the highest finishing rookie in the race; he tied his best career finish with his second 4th place finish of the season but first since Daytona. After finishing 27th, 19th and 17th in the past 3 races Ron Hornaday Jr. gets his series-leading 7th top 5 of the season. He needs just 1 more top 10 to become the 1st driver in Truck Series history to reach 200. Matt Crafton gets his 2nd top 10 in 3 races but his Iowa win is his only top 5 in the last 7. Joey Coulter finishes in the top 10 for a 6th straight race. After going 3 straight races without a top 10, Cole Whitt gets his 2nd in the last 3 races. Austin Dillon won his 11th career pole in only 40 starts, and series-leading 4th of 2011; he's already tied with Kyle Busch for 8th all time in the Trucks. Dillon's now on a season-high 3 race top 10 streak. 18 y/o Ross Chastain finishes 10th in his series debut, equalling Justin Mark's best finish in the #66 in the first 12 races of 2011. BTW, for those ragging on Josh Richards for his results with KBM so far, don't forget that he's got hardly any experience on pavement, let alone ovals; he's mainly been a dirt racer and he's the 2 time defending World of Outlaws Late Model champion and is leading the 2011 standings. He just needs some time to get experience. 42.
