Nobody wants to win this championship. Congrats to Norm on a career-best fifteenth. 2. The red Chevrolet was dominant as Hornaday scored his first-ever Truck win at Vegas, his 51st all-time, and clawed his way back into the title fight. Austin Dillon started this race on the outside Hornaday but didn't stay there as he blew a tire and crashed in the tri-oval on lap 2. The black #3 Chevrolet was fixable but wasn't a factor for the rest of the race because of the damage and the time it took to repair. Hornaday was in the #2 to help it win the owner point title against the #18 team, which Brian Ickler crashed out in this one. With Hornaday in the #2 his normal #33 was run by Cale Gale. Gale was taken out in a bizarre wreck when Justin Lofton got hooked into the wall on the backstretch then had his crashed truck drift up into traffic in turn 3 right in front of Gale who had no time to react. Jason White thought he had a truck capable of winning this race before a practice crash forced him to his backup. The backup still ran well but he blew a tire late and fell from contention...then drifted up the race track where oddly Jennifer Jo Cobb collected him and caused a wreck. The Las Vegas truck race moves back to being a day race after several years as a night race. 3. Carmichael was battling for the lead when he fell back a little and got loose as a result of a battle with other trucks resulting a spin and Brian Ickler and Miguel Paludo getting collected. Ickler's Kyle Busch #18 Toyota hit Carmichael with enough force that the #4 briefly ended up on the hood of Ickler's truck destroying it. Carmichael's day did get better, he went over Las Vegas' Sam Boyd Stadium after this race to help SPEED Channel cover a large Supercross/Motocross race that night. 4. Nice run for Ryan Sieg. 5. AlmirolaFan88 posted: 10.15.2011 - 10:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Carmichael's day got better during the race too, he finished 12th despite all of the damage! After making his final pit stop Nelson Piquet Jr had to pit again because of loose lug nuts, he dropped a lap down but got it back inside of 10 to go and made a frantic dash to 6th place. The #2 truck has rejuvinated Ron Hornaday's title hopes no doubt, but they might be dashed because Ray Dunlap and Ron himself dropped subtle hints that he could be headed back to the #33 truck for the final 4 or 3 races. Ron has been hot and cold in the #33. Can't wait for Dega next Saturday. Talk about a wild card. 6. 18fan posted: 10.15.2011 - 10:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I know it is still probably a long shot, but Hornaday is making a statement that he is still in the championship race and he's been down the championship battle road a time or two and Dillon, Buescher, and Sauter haven't. 7. We won't know who the real championship contenders are until after Talladega next week however. 8. Only 34 trucks showed up in this supposed 36 truck field. Max Gresham (K&N East Champ) had a terrible first career start. Tough break for Justin Lofton had a good truck til he crashed out. 11. A lot of wrecks but I think these guys know they only get a handful of chances to get a win a year. Piquet makes a nice charge from a lap down to 6th and closing on 5th at the end.. and again... it seems like everyone wants to give this title away... I kept waiting for Sauter to spin but somehow he held on to it throughout the day... I figured he'd come unglued at some point... 14. irony posted: 10.16.2011 - 3:11 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ron's 25th win with KHI, matching his total with DEI. His next milestone to chase - 53rd career win at age 53. He will reach 300 starts in the season finale at Homestead. It's likely he will want to stay in the Truck Series next season to chase a Daytona win. 15. Hornaday's now won at all 10 tracks he's raced at 10 times or more. Ron also earned his 27th career Truck Series pole, putting him 5 back of Jack Sprague for 2nd all time (Mike Skinner is tops with 47). Matt Crafton got just his 4th top 5 of the year and first in the 10 races since his Iowa win. Timothy Peters got his first top 5 and just his 2nd top 10 in the last 5 races. Johnny Sauter has 3 finishes of 6th or better in the last 4 races. Todd Bodine has 2 top 5's and 5 top 10's in the last 6 races, scoring the 2nd most points of anyone over that stretch to go from 10th to 7th in the standings. Nelson Piquet Jr. was the highest finishing rookie in 6th, his 4th top 10 in the last 6 races. David Mayhew got his first top 10 in 3 starts this year driving for his K&N Pro West Series team (3rd place finishes in both of his starts in the #2 KHI Truck). Cole Whitt's 8th place finish, his rookie-leading 11th top 10 of the year, was enough for him to overtake Joey Coulter for the ROTY points lead by 1 point. But now Nelson Piquet Jr.'s just 4 points back in 3rd. Brendan Gaughan picked up just his 2nd top 10 in the last 11 races. Parker Kligerman picked up just his 3rd top 10 in the last 9 races. 18. The next-closest was...also Ron Hornaday, two weeks prior at Kentucky. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
