It is beyond surprising how many drivers hook somebody in the right rear on purpose (I think John's was a mistake) then claim it was unintentional (see Earnhardt, Dale and Busch, Kyle). Hope this is the start of a promising career. 11. Brad24 posted: 02.25.2012 - 12:22 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) What a wild race. The truck race is usually the craziest race of Speedweeks. Congrats to John King on winning. Glad to see Miguel Paludo walk away from a vicious crash on the frontstrech. Thank God for SAFER Barriers. The results of the wreck could have been much worse without that. His wreck, Danica's wreck in the Duel's, and many others are a testament to the safety improvements over the past decade. Also glad to see no fans were injured (To my knowledge) when Joey Coulter flew into the catchfence. Glad Joey's ok as well. 12. ch posted: 02.25.2012 - 12:29 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I watched King in the 07 for SS Green Light last year and figured he was one to watch. Bronco posted: 02.25.2012 - 12:41 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm almost certain that John King's win ties David Gilliland's 2006 Kentucky Busch win for the lowest amount of combined NASCAR starts before winning a race with 8. I believe this is the first time since the 3 attempts at a GWC rule was re-instated for the Trucks back in 2010 that a race has needed that many attempts. If there had been a 4th attempt I think they would have wrecked again. Coulter's truck went airborne at essentially the same place on the track where Geoff Bodine crashed in 2000 but luckily it wasn't near as bad. Johnny Sauter has never finished a Daytona truck race on the lead lap and has crashed out in 3 out of 4 attempts. First Daytona Truck race without Kyle Busch since 2006. Amazingly, the Truck series has now had at least one first time winner in every year since 1995 when it was created. Although everything it looks like the Roush cars and Stewart and Jr are the favorites for the 500, it would not surprise me at all to have it come down to a GWC with 5 cars remaining and Tony Raines and David Stremme breaking off in a two car tandem to settle the finish. 15. Never in my life did I have so many wrecks happen right in front of me. Sauters wreck was literally 15 feet from me. Paludo's radiator was also about 15 feet from me too when he wrecked. Amazing race, but no one really knew who John King was. People where looking up the qualifying results on there cell phones to see who was in the no.7 haha Great finish for Ward Burton who all race long was struggling to keep up with the pack. 18. 12345Dude posted: 02.25.2012 - 1:11 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Missed the race. The first 80-odd laps were particularly interesting, with Turner Motorsports seeming to have a stranglehold over the whole thing and the rest of the field trying to figure out how to beat them. And then....things got crazy. 20. Spen posted: 02.25.2012 - 1:29 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't think I even remembered who King was when I read the entry list. I think the last thing you would want to see is a truck have trouble, run over the debris on its way to the pits, and have it be more trouble. Then again, I didn't watch the race (only a few replays), so I don't know if if was on the apron, or in the area for cars spinning out 28. It came out as they were nearing the end of a fuel run and there had been zero green flag lead changes up to that point, Paludo and Buescher were glued to the bottom and the outside line were struggling to make any progress. Second one was legitimate, but the first was quite obvious in having nothing to do with safety. 30. nascar_vd posted: 02.25.2012 - 6:10 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Congratulation to John King !! He showed what he could do in good equipment. Regarding, the wreck with Johnny Sauter, it was more Todd Bodine's fault than anybody. He was pushing John King and King had nowhere to be pushed and ended up hooking Sauter's truck. Sauter even blamed Bodine for the wreck. 32. BradKeselowski2Fan posted: 02.25.2012 - 8:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Who is this guy? John King pulls off the upset win in his 8th career start. Timothy Peters gives Red Horse a 1-2 finish. Props to Todd Bodine's crew chief for telling a NASCAR official that King was the leader for the final restart and not Bodine. Ward Burton, after having trouble throughout most of the race, finishes a solid 9th in his first Truck start. Now, lets see what Jeb can do in that truck at Martinsville. Clay Greenfield and Dusty Davis pulled off surprise finishes (10th and 13th, respectively). After hitting Pauldo's radiator, Chris Cockrum still pulls off a decent 16th. Some scary crashes throughout this race. Miguel Pauldo gets twitchy off Turn 4, slides towards the inside wall, and hits it with enough force to launch the truck in the air do a full 360. The radiator hit Chris Cockrum's truck. The second scary crash came when King hooked Sauter into the wall and caused a massive pile-up, which saw David Starr's truck in a big mess. The final scary wreck saw Coulter upside down, in the catchfence, and tearing the truck into pieces. Hornaday actually drive under Coulter's truck. 33. But Dale certainly drug his feet as hard as he could on safety measures. So it is a situation where I can't blame anybody except for him. It happens. Some people are just stubborn as hell. It hurts to see people you care about hurt themselves being like that (or in Dale's case, have his life ended because he wouldn't wear "that damn noose"). Ultimately, Dale would have never worn the HANS. Ever. And NASCAR never would have mandated it were it not for losing Dale. And that is a shame. It cost him everything. His company ultimately crumbled without him, and his two middle kids had an ugly public split with Dale's soulmate Teresa. That would have broke his heart more than anything.
