Another wreck by Harraka. 3. joey2448 posted: 06.09.2012 - 2:03 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I feel that NASCAR jumped the gun on waving the caution when Ty Dillon and James Buescher "wrecked". They both spun up the track a little, but they got it pointed straight again and everyone got through ok with no other problems. I picked Lofton to win, and had the caution come out about five seconds earlier when he pitted, that might have come true...darn. 4. 18fan posted: 06.09.2012 - 2:12 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) As Ty and James continued to race side by side I told my dad that they were going to wreck and they did, although both of them did a great job of saving their trucks from heavier damage. 5. myothercarisanM535i posted: 06.09.2012 - 2:49 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) joey2448, I agree with you completely. 6. 10andJoe posted: 06.09.2012 - 2:52 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) - Ty Dillon's incredible start to his career continues. He has scored a top 10 in every NASCAR national touring event he's run in except the very first... - Best career finish for Joey Coulter - As for jumping the gun on that caution, as it turned out, they kinda did, but clearly they (along with everyone else at that point) expected the 3 and 31 not to save it and to start stacking up trucks behind them. Good things rarely happen when the leaders spin in front of the field... 7. 10andJoe posted: 06.09.2012 - 2:54 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #24 sponsor: Made in USA Brand / PledgeForUSA.com #65 sponsor: Yellow Stripes: Making the Driver #81 sponsor: Build Your Future / Zachry (typo) 8. cjs3872 posted: 06.09.2012 - 9:51 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) You know, everyone makes a big things out of the advantage Justin Lofton had when he got out front due to clean air, but that only makes a difference when the guy behind is in dirty air. I think there's something else worth mentioning, and I think we may have also seen the effects of this last Sunday at Dover when Jeff Gordon was pulling away from Jimmie Johnson on older tires, and that is the weight situation. Nobody mentioned this, or even thinks about it, but could the fact that Justin Lofton was running lighter when he was pulling away from the field could have had an effect? After all, since his truck had less fuel by about half a fuel run, he was actually running a truck that was about 70-100 lbs. lighter, and on a track where handling is important, if you can legally run light, that would seem like a big advantage. I remember a Cup race at Rockingham in 1997 where Dale Jarrett was dominating and there was a late caution in the event, and during the pit stps that took place during that caution, Jeff Gordon's car was the only one that did not take on any fuel, just tires, and suddenly nobody could catch it. Everyone was trying to figure out why a dominant Jarrett couldn't catch Gordon, but the reason why was because Gordon's car was lighter than the rest of them as a result of no taking on fuel, and because his car was about 100 lbs. lighter, it handled better. In later years, Jarrett's team used the same tactic to win a race at Darlington. I wonder if that's what we saw happen with Lofton during the middle stages of last night's race. His truck wasn't that much better than the rest of the field at that time, but handled better because it was lighter than the rest of his competition because it didn't have as much fuel by about 70 lbs. Lofton's truck wasn't nearly as strong before or after that, not just because it was in traffic, but because it didn't have the weight advantage that it had during that run. 9. Not sure if he was having any issues or simply got aero loose, but it's not something you see every race. Norm runs on such a shoestring budget with outdated trucks that it's kind of shocking that Silas found himself in the position that he did. It's possible that Norm got into him before the cameras caught it and was on the brakes hard enough to distance himself from the 99, but it didn't seem like it. 12. Dave#38fan posted: 06.09.2012 - 5:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) norm is running trucks that are 30 mph off the pace on a good day, he pretty much has minded his own business and stayed out of everybody's way for 4 years now, i can't think of any possible reason he would spin someone out on purpose. 13. 1995z71 posted: 06.09.2012 - 10:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Norm Benning accidentally took the air off the back of the truck. Going into this race, 3 drivers had 100% Top 10s for the season. Now 2 remains (Justin Lofton & Ty Dillon). Timothy Peters drops out with a 11th place finish. 14. Deserves it after losing this race last year (and the championship as a result) and getting wrecked while leading at Daytona and being out of the championship at this point. 15. Paul posted: 06.10.2012 - 1:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) - Brandon Miller finishes 20th and on the lead lap in his first NASCAR start since 2007. - David Starr was running 8th late in the race and was in position for his first top ten finish of the season before dropping five positions in the final 20 laps. - All three Thorsport Racing trucks finish on the lead lap for the first time this season. Also, this was only Johnny Sauter's second lead lap finish; the other was his 4th place finish at Rockingham. - Miguel Paludo finishes 14th just one week after his eight-month-old son Oliver was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. - Rick Crawford and Paulie Harraka got together while running 14th and 15th. I think this is the fourth or fifth race Harraka has caused a wreck. It probably won't be long before Richie Wauters replaces him. - After saying at the start of the season that his team wouldn't run w/o a sponsor, Hillman Racing did just that in its first race w/o one as Brandon Knupp start & parked after two laps. - Also, this was Brandon Knupp's first start in three years and his 23rd DNF in 24 starts. - Norm Benning gets his best finish since that weird race at Las Vegas last year when in seemed like every competitive truck was wrecking (15th). - Johnny Sauter made a great move on that last restart when he made it 3-wide to pass Gaughan and Crafton for the lead. - Brent Raymer was 28 laps shy of finishing his first race since 2010. - As it's been mentioned already, Dillon, Lofton, and Peters all entered this race having six top tens in six races. Late in the race, it looked like none of them would have a top ten as Dillon got into the wall and Lofton and Peters were each one lap down via early pit stops. They each rallied back to top 11 finishes. The top ten streak continues for Lofton and Dillon. 16. 10andJoe posted: 06.10.2012 - 6:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) >After saying at the start of the season that his team wouldn't run w/o a sponsor, Hillman Racing did just that in its first race w/o one as Brandon Knupp start & parked after two laps. I'm pretty sure that was only Hillman Racing 'on paper'; another team running their number and points to keep them in the top 25 with all races attempted. 17. murb posted: 06.10.2012 - 11:51 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I thought this was a pretty fun race. No clear cut dominator, and a lot of good side by side racing. This Truck championship battle is getting more and more interesting with each week that passes. To me, the three guys I see battling it out for this are James Buescher, Justin Lofton, and Timothy Peters. And if Sauter can get some momentum on his side after this win, I think he could be involved in it as well. And hell, you could even throw in Ty Dillon as well. 18. kup posted: 06.12.2012 - 6:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) UPS - universal points system.
