I think I'm going to have to predict him every week. Way to go Brendan Gaughan, though! By far his best race in any NASCAR series since 2003. Sneaky top ten for David Starr in his 300th start. And a great run for Rick Crawford, as well. I was quite surprised at how badly McCumbee ran compared to Townley. Overall, one of the most fun races I've ever seen at Chicago. 2. Ed posted: 07.21.2012 - 11:26 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Actually, the caution came out with 6 to go because Lofton hit the wall in turn 3. Other things of note: - James Buescher rallies from 2 laps down after a carburetor change mid-race to win his third career Truck race. All 4 of his NASCAR national series wins have come in 2012. - Brendan Gaughan has his best race in years, leading a race-high 83 laps before spinning his tires on a late restart and settling for 2nd. - Points leader Timothy Peters led 3 laps on the next-to-last restart before being passed by Buescher. His 3rd place finish increased his points lead to 23 over Ty Dillon, who finished 12th. - Ron Hornaday, Jr. got loose coming to the checkered flag and was spun out by Cale Gale. Ron nonetheless finished 7th. Rick Crawford also spun trying to avoid Hornaday's truck, he finished 11th. - Joey Coulter had a truck capable of winning until contact with Paludo, and later Bodine, dropped him back in the pack. - Todd Bodine becomes the first driver to start 200 races in each of NASCAR's three national divisions. The only Bodine to never win a Cup race finished 18th. - Blake Koch, Dennis Setzer, T.J. Bell, Jeff Green, and Johnny Chapman S&P'd, while Mike Harmon and Chris Lafferty failed to make the race. This marks the 3rd straight race that multiple drivers failed to qualify. 6. He was leading with 20 to go as well... 7. cjs3872 posted: 07.21.2012 - 11:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Did anyone else beside me who watched the race think (and almost predict) that James Buescher was going to win when that caution came out when he had moved up to fourth, but four seconds behind. After all, his truck has been the fastest all season, as this was his third win, and could very easily have been his fourth, as he was leading at Iowa when his right front blew as a caution came out for another spin. And actually, the way he won this race and the way it played out, you wonder if it was a case of Lady Luck evening the score for Buescher, considering what happened to him last week. And he picked up almost as much ground on all the championship contenders in this race that he lost last week, except Timothy Peters. I got a feeling that Buescher will be running the Nationwide Series full time next year with a few spot starts in Cup. 8. I'd rather drive for RAB over Ricky Benton's 92, but also Townley isn't as horrendous as his reputation. 9. ch posted: 07.22.2012 - 12:15 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 4 Start and Parks from RSS Racing (37/38/39/93). It's ridiculous to have the same owner doing 3 and 4 S&P's in the same race. I'm okay with one, but two is the absolute most an owner should be allowed to do for one race, and I'm against anyone S&P'ing more than one car or truck in the same race. That's the thing about the Cup start-and-parks. At least they're all from different teams. Except for rare instances, no Cup team has S&P'd more than one car in any race in the last four years. For instance, there were nine cars at the most recent Cup race at Loudon that had no intention of going the distance, and all nine of them were from different teams. There were no Cup car owners doing multiple S&P's, unless there are those that want to say that FRM S&P'd the 26 and 34 cars, and I don't think they S&P'd either one of them. Now whether or not they tried to go the distance with the #34 car is debateable, though based on their track record, they did try to go the distance, but a car no longer becomes a start-and-park in my view when it makes a pit stop, and two teams that normally S&P (26 and 30) actually made pit stops, and three others (36, 87, 98) went as far as they could without pitting, and then parked it. There's a difference between going as far as you can before parking and just flat doing a start-and-park. 14. If that what the team has to do to stay afloat...let them. Otherwise, teams will die. Have you seen what's happened to Pro Cup this year? Races with nine cars. /NINE/. S&P keeps teams alive and drivers visible until the economy improves. If you don't want teams to S&P multiple trucks, have NASCAR /raise the purses/. Oh, and one reason these teams entered multiple trucks to S&P? It's because when the initial entry list came out, there were only 32 trucks on it. That's four trucks short of a short field. That's why RSS and other teams entered additional trucks: to /fill a short field/. (Ironically they did it so much the field wound up oversubscribed). If you start banning teams from running multiple S&Ps, you're going to have teams shutting down in short order. And, shortly after that, you're going to have a dead series. === Also, #4: aside from #5's correction, the race did not have a GWC. It ran to the originally scheduled distance. 16. 10andJoe posted: 07.22.2012 - 2:08 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Mentioned on the broadcast was that David Mayhew will be driving BKR's #19 truck in a few races later this year. 17. And 10andJoe, I understand why some teams are doing multiple S&P's, especially with such a low entry list as Chicago with no Cup participation. I'm just saying that they shouldn't be allowed to, especially at such a high level of the sport. The Truck series is NASCAR's third-highest series 19. He was also racing for the lead with Ty Dillon at Texas before Ty got loose underneath him and they wrecked. It could easily be 5 wins in 10 races for him, and if he can avoid any significant bad luck the rest of the way then I think it'll come down to just him and Peters for the championship. James Buescher picks up his series-leading 3rd win of 2012 (4th national touring series win) and 2nd in the last 3 races. But those wins are his only top 5's in the last 6 races. Brendan Gaughan's runner-up finish is his best in the Trucks since a 2nd at Texas back in 2007 (had a runner-up at Charlotte in Nationwide in 2009). It's the 7th runner-up finish of his career in the series. Timothy Peters has already tied his career high for top 5's in a season with his 7th; he had 7 all of last season (25 races). Matt Crafton also equaled his top 5's from last season with his 5th of 2012, including 4 consecutive. Parker Kligerman picked up just his 2nd top 5 of the season and 6th in 36 career Truck starts. But he has 8 finishes of 11th or better this season (9.6 avg fin). Cale Gale picks up just his 3rd top 10 of the season, but they've all come within the last 3 races. Ron Hornaday gets his season-best 3rd consecutive top 10 finish. 32. It's his first top 10 in 5 races after 3 in the first 5 races of the season. David Starr becomes the 5th Truck Series driver to make 300 starts, picking up his 116th career top 10 (ranked 9th all time). It's his first top 10 of 2012. 33.
