My thought about the race: The best truck won and, although I don't like either of the Dillon brothers, congratulations to Ty on his first win. According to Michael Waltrip Ty was faster than Kyle on the second to last run, which is impossible for me to disprove because I wasn't following lap times. Ty definitely had a better truck on the long run on that last run. 2. 1995z71 posted: 08.31.2012 - 10:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) So why did Brad Keselowski get rid of Parker Kligerman again? Also a great run by Kyle Larson. 3. 18fan posted: 08.31.2012 - 10:37 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) The way I interpreted the split between BKR and Kligerman was that it was as much Kligerman's call to leave as it was Brad's call to get rid of him. 4. 10andJoe posted: 08.31.2012 - 10:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #0 sponsor: RameyCars.com (no Driven2Honor logos) #4 sponsor: Chip Ganassi Racing Teams Mobile App #7, 17 sponsor: Toyota (Toyota logos on hood and quarter panels) 5. Unfortunately last yellow flag spoiled all the impression. Great runs by Parker Kligerman (did anybody notice that after RHR again expanded to three cars Todd Bodine somewhat went into the shadows?), Kyle Larson and Aric Almirola. Aric just shown that Paulie Harraka despite his success in K&N Series is not a top-division caliber driver. Tom DeLoach and all guys in his shop need to think about improving the program on intermediate tracks. Peters may lose his fight for the title if Michigan and Atlanta trend continues. 6. Penske was paying Parker's salary to run that truck, so it easily could've been a Penske decision in order to give Ryan Blaney seat time. I don't really know who dropped the hammer on that deal. 7. That also would rank up there, along with this race haha. Like Murb said, I can't stand the Dillon brothers (and their cowboy hats) but Ty certainly deserves this win, seeing he was able to race and pass "The Great" Kyle Busch for the lead on more than one occasion. Atlanta sure lends itself to great battles for position. I hope the Dillons end up racing for a mid to lower level racing team when they reach the Cup series, so they will be forced to earn it, instead of being handed great equipment. 13. Paul posted: 09.01.2012 - 1:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "They have done neither, showing they are more Terry Labonte types." I don't think it's fair to compare them to Terry Labonte because you're comparing apples and oranges. Labonte was a humble, quiet, conservative driver who had to earn his way into top equipment by running very well in Billy Hagan's equipment for eight seasons before getting a ride for Junior Johnson. Of course, Labonte's experienced his share of setbacks as well, such as losing his ride for Junior Johnson and having four winless seasons driving for Richard Jackson and Bill Hagain again, and suffering internal injuries after a hard crash at Daytona 2000. Of course, Labonte would bounce back by earning a ride with Hendrick Motorsports and winning a championship in his 3rd season (12 years after his 1st title; longest stretch in between two consecutive titles in NASCAR history), and having a career resurgence year in 2003 that included a win in the final Labor Day weekend Southern 500 (very fitting considering he got his first start and win in that race many years earlier) and a 10th place points finish. The Dillon brothers haven't paid their dues to earn a top ride in NASCAR and have only been given it because of their place on the family tree. Yes I know they both have talent, but they haven't proven themselves driving for lower-level teams and instead have just been given a ride that they'll probably never lose. As much as I tried to like them, their personalities annoy me because they come off as being fake and forced. Have you noticed Austin always has a teeth showing smile during interviews, but never smiles when he doesn't know the camera's on him? Hell, he was smiling when Trevor Bayne got up in his face after the Bristol race last weekend (a sense of insecurity perhaps?). They don't connect with people in their interviews and that's why they don't have very many fans. And the cowboy hats are just too much. I said this before on a different race page that I think cowboy hats should be worn by actual cowboys. Earnhardt and Cale were cowboys, the Dillon brothers are not. Say what you want about drivers like the Busch brothers, Brad, Harvick, and Hamlin, at least they come off as genuine in their interviews and what you see is what you get. I'd rather drivers be wolves in wolves' clothing than wolves in sheep's clothing. And I'm not saying the Dillon brothers are the only drivers who come off as fake, but they're a great example. 27. Do they really have to wear it every damn weekend? Like, I understand if you were gonna do it at Texas, or somewhere where it makes sense. Dodge probably decided they weren't going to put any more money in the RAM, and BKR wasn't going to build any new trucks. Kligermann wanted to contend, and with Ryan Blaney brought in, there were no more spots. RHR had an opening and gave it to him. So, mostly a mutual decision. Cost based for Penske, and ability to contend for Kligermann. 38. DaleSrFanForever posted: 09.01.2012 - 10:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hard to beat that silver scheme as far as pure looks. When Terry came to the team, they'd already been running for almost three years, and had gotten a grand total of two top fives, both at Talladega. Granted, Skip Manning was hardly a Hall of Famer, but that still doesn't sound like an elite organization to me. And as you know full well, the 1980 Southern 500 win was a total fluke, on par with Jody Ridley's win at Dover the next year. They didn't win or even seriously contend for a win again until Dale Inman joined the team. And even then, it took DW, Allison, Earnhardt, Elliott and Gant shooting themselves in the foot repeatedly to get them a championship. And once Inman left, they quickly went back to being junk. 46. cjs3872 posted: 09.04.2012 - 3:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) No Spen. Once Labonte left Hagan's team after the 1986 season, Hagan's team went back to anonymous status in the sport. Sure they weren't championship caliber in Labonte's final season in his first stint there, but he did contend for wins in 1986, including in the Daytona 500, where he finished second, and did find victory lane. And while Labonte's win in the 1980 Southern 500 was a fluke, the fact is that he was in position when the three leaders all wrecked. And the big reason why Labonte did not win until 1983 was that he was too conservative, a fact that cost him Jim Stacy's sponsorship while he was leading the points midway through the 1982 season. Labonte also was in that three-wide finish in the 1981 Talladega 500, so he did contend for win a number of times before Dale Inman got there, but Inman was the man who gave him the confidence that he could win. 47. In fact, those 6 have combined to win 8 of the 14 races this season (Buescher 3, then Dillon, Coulter, Piquet Jr., Lofton and King with 1 each). It's Dillon's series-leading 12th top 10 of the season, but the win is just his 3rd top 5. Older brother Austin set the record for fewest top 5's by a Truck champion last season with 10 in 25 races, and Ty's on pace for just 5 in 22 races; if Ty wins the championship, he'd need 7 top 5's in the last 8 races just to match it. BTW, James Buescher and Timothy Peters are each on pace for 13 top 5's this season. In his first Truck Series start of 2012, Kyle Busch picks up his 19th career runner-up finish to tie Todd Bodine for 5th all time. It's his 60th top 5 in 102 career starts (.588 top 5 %, by far the best all time for drivers with 100+ starts. Next best is Ron Hornaday Jr. at .471 in 314 starts). James Buescher picks up his series-leading 7th podium finish of the season; Timothy Peters has 5, then nobody else has more than 3. Buescher also leads the series in laps led (390) and races led (10 of 14). He extends his season-best top 10 streak to 5 straight. Parker Kligerman extends his career-best top 5 and top 10 streaks to 3 and 6 respectively; he's scored the most points over each of those spans, including making up 14 points on Peters in the last 3. In just his 2nd Truck Series start in the last two seasons, Aric Almirola picks up his 19th career top 5 in 76 series starts. It's the first top 5 and top 10 for Richie Wauter's team in their first season in the Trucks. Kyle Larson makes it top 10 finishes in each of his first two career Truck Series race, following up a 10th at Kentucky with a 6th. This despite starting 25th at Kentucky (T-1st in positions made up from the start, +15) and 17th at Atlanta (1st, +11). Joey Coulter has finished 7th or better in the last 4 races, to go from 8th in the points to 6th; he finished 7th in points last year as a rookie. Nelson Piquet Jr.'s average finish when he finishes a race in 2012 (10 of 14 races) now stands at 6.5 (9 finishes of 8th or better). Matt Crafton finishes 9th for a 2nd straight race, but after rattling off 5 straight top 5's he's now gone 3 straight without one. Kurt Busch gets his 2nd top 10 in 2 Truck starts this season, and his 19th in 27 career starts in the series. Ryan Blaney finishes 11th in his 2nd career Truck start, and improves his average finish in 8 starts between NNS and Trucks this season to 15.8 (4 top 10's). 48.
