Paul posted: 02.22.2013 - 4:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Aw man, Rick Crawford missed the race? I always liked him, especially since he was usually the best Ford driver while with Circle Bar Racing in the early '00s. He doesn't race very often anymore, so I always look forward to seeing him at the race track. Nice job by Brennan Newberry winning the pole at Daytona. He had some bad runs in the Truck Series last season, but always had solid runs in ARCA, including a 6th place finish at Daytona last weekend. Hopefully he will turn a new leaf this season, as I think he could be a valuable driver in this series if he in deed has the talent to succeed in this racing discipline. 8. When guys like Kyle or Denny complain, a lot of fans get pissed off. But when a Bodine complains, it's just sort of like "Tell me something I don't know." We just sort of expect a Bodine to complain after a race. Hell, I'm always surprised to hear a no excuses, no finger-pointing interview from one of them after they wreck. If they've done anything in NASCAR, it's cause fans to be surprised when they DON'T complain. He's moved over to Mercedes this year, and since they aren't one of the two or three best teams, he'll probably get burnt out and tired of fighting his ass off for 6th place every week. He's already got an established relationship with Tony, and from what I can tell he had a blast driving Tony's car at Watkins Glen when they swapped. So I'm expecting Lewis to be in a SHR car sometime around 2016 or 2017. And with him, Tony, Harvick, and Danica, they will undoubtedly be the most entertaining and quotable team in Nascar. 127. And then Stewart and Hamilton did a ride swap at the Glen a few years after that. If that's any indication, we could see Hamilton in NASCAR in a few years. It's probably just a consequence, but it's fun to think about. Especially because Lewis replaced JPM at McLaren when he went to NASCAR. 128. It's also his first win at a track other than Texas since Homestead in 2011 and his 2nd win not at a 1.5 mile intermediate track (Martinsville in 2011). His 7 wins since 2009 are tied with Todd Bodine for the 4th most in the series over that span. The top 3 (Kyle Busch, Ron Hornaday, Kevin Harvick) have combined for 44 since 2009. It's Thorsports' 10th career Truck Series win and their first at Daytona. Also their first with the #98 (6 wins with #13, 3 wins with #88). Kyle Busch finishes 2nd for the 21st time in his Truck Series career, moving into 4th all time. 3 of them are at Daytona in 5 starts. It's his 8th runner-up finish among the top 3 series since his last NASCAR win, Cup at Richmond last April. Ron Hornaday Jr. finishes in the top 5 for the first time in 14 races dating back to last season, a year where he only had 2 top 5's in 22 races. It's his best finish and just his 2nd top 5 in 10 career Daytona starts (17.0 avg fin). Justin Lofton also picks up his first top 5 in 14 starts, but his 2nd top 5 in 4 Daytona starts (two 3rd place finishes, 10.5 avg fin). Jeb Burton's the highest finishing rookie in 5th, his first top 5 and 2nd top 10 in 6 career Truck Series starts. He's also the highest finishing Turner Scott Motorsports driver. Ty Dillon led a career-high and race-high 56 laps, just 3 off of Mike Wallace's single-race record in Trucks at Daytona of 59 in 2000. But he settles for 6th, his 20th top 10 in 26 career Truck starts and 2nd top 10 (6th & 8th) in 2 Daytona starts. Miguel Paludo gets his 15th top 10 in 51 career Truck Series starts, which includes just 5 in 22 races in 2012. But it's his 2nd top 10 in 3 Daytona starts (4th, 30th and 7th for a 13.7 avg fin). Ryan Blaney makes it 2 rookies in the top 8 with his 2nd top 10 in 2 plate track starts in Trucks, and 6th top 10 in 10 career Truck starts overall. Matt Crafton picks up his 157th career top 10 in Trucks (295 starts). It's just his 5th top 10 in 13 Daytona starts (15.7 avg fin), but all coming in his last 7. Ryan Sieg gets just his 6th top 10 in 83 career Truck Series starts, and first in 4 Daytona starts (16.5 avg fin). Sieg had 1 top 10 in all of 2012 and the same in 2011. First, there was Darrell Waltrip's horrendous crash, which was a product of racing back to the line, then there was that crazy dash after Mark Martin's crash when Joe Ruttman was trying to keep Neil Bonnett a lap down when they raced through debris and lapped traffic. There were two cars wrecked just past the S/F line. I would be more in line with your thinking had the crash at the start of the final lap ocurred on the backstretch, but not just past the S/F line. And DSFF, Sterling Marlin would not have been the 2002 champion, even if he had not been injured. Sure he had led the points most of the year, but he lost the point lead at Kansas (Jimmie Johnson had just taken the lead, with Mark Martin moving to second, and Tony Stewart charging like crazy), and that team was plummeting worse than any point leading team I have ever seen. To be honest, Marlin was doing it with smoke and mirrors, because both of is wins came in the first seven races, and his performance was dropping off. He may have finished in the top five (and even that would have been a stretch, considering the way the Roush team would finish out the season), but he would not have been battling for the championship. And yes, Ward Burton is NASCAR's answer to Lloyd Ruby, but with one big exception. Ward Burton actually won the big one on one occasion, while Ruby was always cursed, but Ruby and Ward Burton may have been the two slowest talkers in auto racing history. 142. 83andJoe posted: 02.23.2013 - 2:16 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) >Brennan Newberry's first career pole. >Jeb Burton's best career finish, and first career top 5. >Darrell Wallace Jr's first series start. >Chris Cockrum's best career finish. 143. The car as it's set up will probably be fine on the usual tracks, there's no need to fix anything just because the product at Daytona wasn't what was intended. The spoiler alone could be the culprit (which is shorter at Daytona than it will be at the non-restrictor plate tracks). About a decade ago, he began running the Indianapolis 500 again and his cars always carried that number, which made P.J.
