Despite a win last week, their #30 truck lacked sponsorship this week. Expect to see more of that truck, however, as K&N East Series drivers Ben Kennedy and Brandon Jones will each make 3 starts this season. Danny Efland will return to the truck series for the first time since 2009. Efland was schedule to drive 28 Nationwide races in Johnny Davis's #4 this year, but was released a few weeks ago in favor of Landon Cassill, so it's great to see him find a good ride instead of a start and park situation. His team this week is listed as one of Eddie Sharp's trucks but is being fielded by MAKE Motorsports in a partnership with ESR to keep the #6 truck locked into the field. During qualifying, Carl Edwards was talking to MB Motorsports drive Justin Jennings, giving him some advice on how to run his laps. Edwards first few starts in Nascar came with the Mittler Brothers team and his 8th place finish in the 2002 Kansas truck race is that teams only top ten finish to date. 3. The new rule-that 16 and 17 year olds can run truck races-applies only to tracks 1.1 miles and short and the road course. The next race Chase will run will be Dover in May. 4. I've always liked him. He's had his moments (Gateway 2009 - Bodine wrecked himself, but Hornaday's wreck was all Matt), but he's always seemed like a genuinely good guy. His emotion after his win today proved how grateful he is. I was a big time Harvick fan back in the day (not as much any more due to his never ending shenanigans, though I still pull for him to run well), so I instantly became a fan of Crafton's when he climbed into Harvick's #6 Goodwrench truck in 2004. Unfortunately that relationship never worked out (I think there was some bad blood or something behind the scenes), so he went back to Thorsport. I still sort of stuck with him though, and he's always been one of my favorite Truck drivers. It has been cool to finally see him become a winner and perennial championship contender over the last few years. I'm not sure if he'll be able to beat Sauter for it this year, but with the speed of the Thorsport trucks I think he can definitely win another race or two if his streakiness doesn't get in the way. 157. TeamPlayersBlue posted: 04.20.2013 - 11:47 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Overrated? He's a bit streaky in the win column, but overall, he's always been a very serviceable Truck Series driver. Back when Thorsport was shit (from 2001 to about 2007), he was still getting 10+ top tens a season. And yeah, even in the past few years when they've been good he hasn't really won a lot either. But in that time he's consistently been one of the top five Truck regulars without a doubt. He's sort of like the Greg Biffle of the Truck Series. He doesn't win THAT much, but he's always there. 159. Eric posted: 04.21.2013 - 12:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Murb, I don't Greg Biffle should be compare to Matt Crafton when it comes to winning. Greg Biffle is usually good for 1 or 2 cup wins a season and Matt Crafton can't be count on winning 1 to 2 races a season on a regular basis. Greg Biffle has at least one win in 8 out of 10 full cup seasons without counting this season. Matt Crafton has won in less regularity than that. I wouldn't be shocked if Greg Biffle wins one or two times this year matter of fact. Greg Biffle in terms of winning is more like Ricky Rudd. Ricky was good for 1 or 2 wins a season and Biffle is the same way except for 2005. The major differences is Biffle won more at the one and half mile and mile tracks than Rudd, Rudd had a longer consecutive winning streak than Biffle ever will, and Rudd was the better short track racer. 160. He hasn't missed a race since he's been lucky to have a dedicated sponsor and an owner who hasn't released him for not winning enough. In comparison, someone like Timothy Peters has done a lot more in a lot less time. In fairness to Crafton he has come close to greatness before, but hasn't got there yet, similar to Martin Truex in the Cup Series. Crafton had a very good year in 2009, completing all but two laps and finishing 2nd in points, with 5 runner up finishes, last year he almost won Las Vegas and Martinsville but got passed very late by Nelson Piquet and Denny Hamlin. 163. Paul posted: 04.21.2013 - 2:04 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Matt Crafton reminds me a lot of "Mr. Consistency" Elton Sawyer from the glory days in the Busch Series. He doesn't win all that much, but he's consistently finishing in the top ten, which in turn helps make him a frequent top five points contender. He doesn't take any chances, but when he sees the opportunity to make something happen, like he did in this race on that final restart, he usually takes it. It paid off in this race as he wound up getting the win. "Why anybody wouldn't want him in their car is the better question." From what I've heard, Crafton will be making three starts for RCR in their #33 Nationwide car this season, running both Kentucky races and the standalone Chicago race in July. If this is true, this would mark Crafton's first ever NASCAR national series race outside of the Truck Series. 164.
