Hope IOwa has more then 30 trucks 11. The Long Shot posted: 08.31.2013 - 8:52 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Just by doing some basic searching, I found out that Buren Skeen apparently never married before he died in 1965. He did have two brothers (Herbert and Ronald), but one presumably never had children, and the other only had one boy (Elliott). Therefore, Mike Skeen is at least not directly related to Buren. 12. Neither JJC or her race team have any business in NASCAR. Shes not even competing for a top 20 in a series with only 30-34 trucks most weekends. She's a laughingstock. My feelings are exactly the same when it comes to Norm Benning. 16. Rexrobe posted: 09.01.2013 - 1:04 am Rate this comment: (5) (0) This is the first road course race for the trucks since 2000. It takes a lot of money to convert a truck for road course racing, and money is in short supply anyway - look at how many teams have went on hiatus since the end of June. The smaller teams just brought a Martinsville truck and modified it the best they could. I give Norm and Jennifer Jo Cobb a ton of credit just for showing up. Heck, it took a lot of guts for anyone in the bottom ten to show up, because it took a hell of a lot of work to get here for not much reward. I may be alone in saying this but I would rather see Norm Benning get out there, make two laps, and then pull in and quit just to say he was here and raced than any of the "history" being made in the other two series right now. 17. Kyle posted: 09.01.2013 - 1:49 am Rate this comment: (2) (5) Part of the problem is they "just show up". They aren't actually "racing" because they just ride around conserving their equipment. If someone like Todd Bodine was in their trucks he would be running a lot closer to the front because he would be trying to get all he can get from the trucks. Top 15 is not out of the question for those trucks if they had someone pushing it to the edge. I understand the financial reasons for not wanting to wreck the truck but you will NEVER get sponsorship just riding around trying to finish. 18. murb posted: 09.01.2013 - 3:16 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm going all out for Mike Skeen in this race just because I have no idea who the hell that is. I can understand you not liking Daytona or Talladega's competitiveness because they are, as you have described, "a circus". (I like those races personally, but that's just me.) However, what in the world is wrong with having 43 competitive teams racing week in and week out? The definition of an auto race is "a competition between all drivers to see who can reach a destination first", not "a competition between 1/3 of all drivers". 26. At the plate races, just about any team that makes it to the end on the lead lap has a shot at winning under the right circumstances. That is one legit reason ratings are higher for Daytona and Talladega, competition. Fans want to see Cinderella prevail at Talladega, road ringers slug it out with Nationwide Series regulars on the road courses, trucks slide not-so-gingerly at Eldora, and trucks return to road racing after a 13 year hiatus... competition. Between the uninspiring Cup Series' Gen 6 car, Jimmie Johnson, the constant ESPN harping on the Nationwide Owners' Championship "rivalry," etc. it is no wonder the little glimmers of old-school racing scattered throughout 2013 have been good. The definition of an auto race is "a competition between all drivers to see who can reach a destination first", not "a competition between 1/3 of all drivers". That's true, however it's simply that in order to have all 43 (or 40, or 36, or 30) vehicles equally capable of winning, you have to have them all absolutely identical in every respect, and at that point the interest level plummets. Back in the "Golden Age" of NASCAR there were only ~10-15 at most drivers who could be considered "serious threats to win" on a regular basis, and yet that was still the Golden Age. 32. He has won seven races there (including sweeping the races at Mosport in 2011 and 2012). I was unaware he also competed in Grand-Am. He isn't one of the biggest stars of the PWC (James Sofronas, Johnny O'Connell, Andy Pilgrim, and Randy Pobst are faster, but they're also much older and I like seeing NEW road course ringers, so if I watch, I'll be rooting for him. Some people on here think they know everything about NASCAR and don't, others have way too much bias and can't see straight when something happens to their driver, and then you have the ones who just jump on the bandwagon when one idiot thinks something stupid happened like Elliott wrecking Dillon. To be honest, I am a pretty big fan of Chase Elliott. Even if I wasn't a fan of him, this still would have been a good move. I mean, Dillon flat out drove in that corner to get wrecked. He hugged the bottom and didn't allow Chase any room. This meant that Chase had to wreck him to even make it out of the corner. Wow, I can not believe Max Papis. Chase drove it so hard he ended up in the grass as well. And the "Ty cut across Chase" is wrong. Chase had his foot on the gas well before the corner. Look, I am very unimpressed by both Chase and Ty. Not a fan of either. But that was a talentless hack move. And yes, last week I took Kasey to task for not roughing up Matt and still do. What I mean by "roughing up" is moving him over or even giving him a tap that sends him into a spin a la Davey Allison to Darrell in 1991, or yes, Earnhardt in 1999. He didn't drive through Terry. He gave him a well placed nudge in the bumper that sent him around. He used his right front on Terry's left rear, and Terry was spinning. That was racing. That was "roughing up a guy to win". If was not dirty driving on the part of Chase Elliott, because even though he spun Ty Dillon, there didn't seem to be any intent to wreck Dillon, nor did Chase hit Dillon on the corner, but more on the side of the car. The crash was a result of blocking. Besides, Elliott had gotten completely beside Dillon earlier on the final lap. When you talk about dirty driving, the intent has to be there, and there was no intent to flatly wreck Dillon. I do agree with DSFF on that the black #3, first by Trevor Bayne at Iowa in a Nationwide Series race, and now today in this race by Chase Elliott, has been roughed up more this season than in any of the 13 seasons Dale Earnhardt ran the black #3. However, I still didn't like the fact that a guy spun out someone else to win a race, but this time it was by no means intentional. And this time, I think it may have been poetic justice for long-time Elliott fans, because how many times did we see Dale rough up Bill Elliott over the years in the #3 car, and Bill never fight back, even once that I know of. But today, with someone else in a #3, Bill's son was blocked, and Chase wasn't having any of it. as Tony Stewart has said, and he's been on both ends of it numerous times, any time you block, you run the risk of getting wrecked the way Ty Dillon did, and Ty was blocking, and paid the price for it. The move Elliott made was indeed an ambitious one, one that was almost never going to work, and I think if Ty gives him room, he wins the race because there was no way Elliott could have held his line, and he might have spun himself out, or even both trucks out, and the winner might have been the first one to get going and across the finish line, they seemed to have such a lead on third at the time of the incident. 164. Had Ty Dillon given him more room, Chase would likely have spun himself, if not both of them out, and then it would have been a situation where whichever one of them got going would have won. I just differentiate based on where the contact is made. It certainly was an idiotic move on Chase's part, because of the speed he was carrying. That much is obvious, but I don't think he was deliberately trying to wreck Ty. It was also obvious that Ty was blocking (and for more than just that corner), and any time you do that, there's always a chance you'll get wrecked. Ty was willing to take that chance, and it didn't work out for him. But this has seemingly been the year of the "revenge on the 3", because several drivers have taken their shots at the Dillon brothers this year. You can see me and my family in some TV shots, I'm the one in the white t-shirt. Unfortunately, there is no video board in that corner and the speakers were too far away from us to know what was happening. We saw Chase pull up beside Ty but we had no idea what was happening until Chase drove by celebrating with his window net down. Hopefully as the track improves, a score board or video board will be placed in that area so the people on the hill can see what is going on. The track also did a great job with the parking situation (which they have struggled with for other events). By the time we hiked back to our vehicle, we were out of the track in about 5 minutes. I liked driver introductions for the Truck series because they were so close that a bunch said something or waved directly at us. I screamed "Bubba" when Wallace Jr. rode past with Brendan Gaughan and Gaughan looked at us, threw his hands up in the air, and said "Hey, what about me??" That turn had lots of action and there were a few local yellows. I watched Hornaday dive bomb Quiroga and then after, Quiroga and Buescher's stand off was probably over a minute, unlike TV showed. It was also funny to see the 10 and 57 trucks so far off the pace that they were having their own little race. Both trucks couldn't take that turn properly and Norm often had the right-front wheel locked up and off the ground for most of the turn. Overall, it was a great day and hopefully the series will return next year, and attract the Nationwide and Cup Series in a couple of years. 190. Earnhardt did some of the stupidest bonehead moves known to man and it was fine by y'alls stadards. You kissed his rear. He could do no wrong. Yet in a Busch Clash after being Black flagged he stayed out and caused a wreck with his oil. He caused all that crap in the 1987 Winston that all you Sr. fans are still in denial about. Took out Terry Labonte at Bristol. Tried to take out Kyle Petty in the 1992 Winston. Took out DW in a Winston. Those are just the ones off the top of my head. Trust me there are plenty more. Yet you are going to come on here and talk down about Chase Elliott when Dillon chose to hold up Chase with a car out of gas? Elliott was nice enough not to run him over when he initially ran out of gas. Dillon was blocking all over the place. Elliott who had the better car got his front end past the rear tires or Dillon and Dillon came down.....I see nothing wrong with what he did but a lot wrong with Sr. Fans who are hypocrites.....biggest ones in Nascar... 191. Dale used his front bumper like an artist, and the way he did it took a ton of talent. It took the willingness to be an asshole, but he never cared about that. Watch the Bristol '99 incident again sometime. Pay careful attention to the bump that sent Terry spinning. He didn't just knock the shit out of him, and he didn't drive right through him, he gave a very precise, very well placed tap that didn't even wrinkle either fender that sent him around. 192. Members of Ty's RCR team came down to confront Elliott's crew and were quickly shooed away by Elliott's team, and Ty's team slinked off with their tail's between their legs. Now go to YouTube and find the 1987 Budweiser 500 at Dover (it is the last 250 laps). Around the 30 minute mark they do a big piece on all the controversy Earnhardt was in the middle of. You will get to hear a ton of Geoff Bodine whining which is always fun. But it shows after the The 1987 Winston was over, Ernie Elliott and some of the 9 crew come over to confront the RCR crew, in the heyday of "The Junkyard Dogs" and they back down REALLY quick with Richard yelling at them to get out of there. Ernie and his guys got out of there REALLY quick. Dale went to victory lane and gave that famous "I'm better than you and you know it, and you also know I can and will do stuff like this because I can and there is nothing you can do about it" grin. I for one am a little sick of all this Dale Sr worship as great as Dale Sr was as a driver, he was an even bigger prick. How the hell is deliberately hitting someone an art form? it is called being an asshole. That's why Sr won 7 championships by being an asshole; if he needed points he would deliberately put someone in the fence. Why do you think he rarely made any friends? The only driver who could compare to Dale's intensity on the track is Cale Yarborough, and he never intentionally put people in the fence (with the exception of the '79 500), he just beat them straight up cause he was that damn good. 194. Wrecking is wrecking and causing race teams to have wrecked race cars after you were blacked flagged is bad. Wrecking cars period is bad. The reason Elliott made contact with Dillon is because Dillon cut down. Mind you Elliott's front fender was past Dillon's rear tire when they made contact. This fantasy you people are talking about where Elliott drove through someone is exactly that a fantasy. Video doesn't lie and the video clearly shows what happened and it does not show Elliott putting a fender nose to Dillon's bumper. Only an idiot would try to argue that point. Of course you being a Sr. fan I rest my case. Most of his fan base were boneheads just like him. Speaking of Fantasy so is your recollection of the Winston 1987 aftermath. Dale ran his mouth a whole lot but he didn't get in Elliott's face. It was clear Earnhardt didn't think Elliott could get pissed and Elliott proved him wrong. I can count on one hand how many times Earnhardt actually got in some kind of physical confrontation. In fact if you listen closely instead of using your imagination to make things up you can hear Dillon's crew tell him to back off and look at the points picture. They saw what I saw. When Dillon goes "It's out of gas." He really slowed down in the next turn and Elliott almost run over him. You could tell from watching the whole race Dillon was slower in that turn than he had been. Elliott got under him and Dillon should have stayed high. He could have stayed high and he chose not to do that. He choose to come down. End of story. 196. But that was Dale, he was who he was, didn't worry about what people thought, and never made an attempt to hide his faults (compare that to any HMS driver since 1994). And what Dale did with his bumper WAS an art form. It is hard enough just to drive these cars. To hit them with just the right amount force to move them out of your way while not even wrinkling a fender (just like Jeff on Rusty in '97 and '02) takes a TON of talent. To drive through somebody so hard that you end up completely off the course on the other side takes no ability. And you talk about The Winston in 1987, watch when Dale flattens Elliott's tire. He drives up, rubs him for just a split second, but was such a precise brush that it worked perfectly. And one last thing, if he had no friends, then explain the pit road after the '98 Daytona 500. Everybody in the garage was that happy for him. Not even Mark Martin has as much respect as Dale did. 198. cjs3872 posted: 09.04.2013 - 10:13 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yes DSFF, and trying to get payback on Elliott just about cost him that race because that's what allowed Terry Labonte to get all the way beside him, and he might have passed Earnhardt if Earnhardt hadn't run him practically off the track entering turn one. The thing was in those situations that Earnhardt did not want to race with anybody, and the finish of the All-Star Race in 1992 was a perfect example. When Kyle Petty tried to get alongside him on the final lap, all Earnhardt had to do was to hold his line and he had a better than average chance of winning since he would have had the run off the high side of turn four. But instead he ran Petty off the track and ended up getting himself spun out in the process. And Roger's point about Earnhardt "taking out DW" is way off base. what happened there was that Earnhardt had one shot at winning that race, and that was to take it three wide under Jeff Gordon, and we he did, Earnhardt had to drift up. At the same time, his car broke loose, and he collected Waltrip, taking them both out of the race. If Earnhardt had not tried that, Gordon would have blown them away as he had all night. That's why Waltrip jumped the previous start the way he did. They knew they had nothing for Gordon, and the only conceivable chance they had was to get in front of him in any way possible. But Gordon was too cagey, even then, and let Earnhardt in, knowing that the crash was the inevitable result. And even if they didn't crash, Gordon had already ducked underneath Earnhardt and would have easily passed both Waltrip and Earnhardt anyway. But he (Earnhardt) had to try that maneuver. It just didn't work. 199. numbah48n10hatah posted: 09.05.2013 - 4:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #194: Jimmy Weller will be in the #07 and Mike Harmon will be in the #84. 200.
