Hopefully Ross Chastain can win it and hopefully Crafton can clinch the

This is shaping up to be one of the best Truck races of the season. No
Cup regulars are in the field, and the young'ns are stealing the show.
Congrats to Chastain on the pole, but how about Ryan Sieg in 8th place?
Someone needs to put this kid in a good ride ASAP.

This is Frewaldt's Truck debut and he's already had a wild weekend
before the pace laps even began. In practice he got into the back of
Martinsville winner Darrell Wallace when he breaked late into turn 3
causing an accident that put both trucks in the wall. Wallace wasn't
pleased and showed his displeasure by getting out, running over to
Frewaldt's truck, and giving him a slap with some shouting.

Going to be a delay in the start of coverage, a college basketball game
between Boston College and Providence is going to overtime. The game is
actually the first college hoops game on FS1.

Sadly they can't switch over to FS2 either because that's another
basketball game.

That's not just any announcer, its Gus Johnson.
College basketball is my other favorite sport, its something to watch in
racing's offseason.
As long as one team blows it out so the OT doesn't go past 8:30 east is
fine with me.

Sucks that the Truck coverage is delayed, but you have to think about it
the other way around... if a truck race had a lot of cautions and was
going into multiple GWCs, how would you feel if they cut away from the
race to show the start of a basketball game?

In fairness, even though I hate basketball, it's really FS1's fault for
being ridiculous and scheduling their TV events so close together.
Networks get a lot of say in when the event starts and FS1 could have
scheduled this to start 30 minutes earlier.

Also, I really hope that this doesn't mean that Harvick will drive the 9

While I agree, on the other hand Hornaday is the last full-time truck
series driver who started the series first race in 1995, in fact Terry
Labonte, Ken Schrader, and Mike Bliss (full-time in NNS) on the only 3
drivers from that race to have any Nascar starts within the last year,
although Sammy Swindell is still racing World Of Outlaws.

The past few seasons have seen all of the truck series regulars like
Jack Sprague, Todd Bodine, Terry Cook, Rick Crawford, Dennis Setzer,
Johnny Benson, and David Starr lose their rides and sponsors and slip
into a part-time role of retirement. Hornaday is the only semi-competite
truck regular left that's not a young, up and coming driver.

Well, I guess we'll see how Hornaday does in the Turner truck. I guess
it isn't completely fair to judge him on how he's run in the 9 truck,
since that team has proven to be mediocre at best (Harvick has struggled
every time he's run for them, so that says a lot about them). Maybe
he'll prove us wrong and show that he's still got it.

Ross Chastain absolutely deserves a full time ride for next year. He's
contended for wins in Keselowski's trucks, and often ran well in the
lower budget Bobby Dotter equipment he drove last year when he wasn't
parking it.

Hopefully Bubba learned something from that incident. You can't run a
car/truck that's below you onto the apron and keep him there without
expecting a problem. You have to give the guy on the low side at least a
truck width to work with, otherwise it simply won't work.

Impressive victory for Erik Jones, his first (the youngest in truck
series history), and the 6th win this season for KBM.

Solid 6th place finish for Cale Gale, who only has one NASCAR start this
season (a 13th at Kentucky for Turner in the CWTS)

Hold off on the "future Cup champion!" thoughts, my friends. We really
don't need to predict that any young driver showing a lot of promise is
a future Cup champion, because most of the time, it's a prediction that
will never be fulfilled. Winning truck races and winning cup races might
as well be two different sports.

Congrats to Erik. Hoping Ross can get his deserved win next week (if
he's scheduled to even race that is). The Trucks are where all the
racing fun has happened this year. With the exception of Kyle's wins,
Cowboy Hat The Older winning Eldora (even though that night was a huge
success), The Next Jeff Gordon #319 winning Rockingham (a great race
though), and The Next Jeff Gordon #320 winning Mosport with a move so
cheap even his Dad's biggest rival (Dale) would have blushed (yet
another great race), this has been a great year for Trucks. Hell, Ryan
Blaney's restarts alone have been worth the price of admission. Just
wish I didn't miss so damn many.

think he at least has a good shot at a great future in the sport. Then
again, you're right, it's hard to predict the future. Jones could end up
being a massive dud in the Cup series and for all I know, Dakoda
Armstrong could be a future Cup champion. Who really knows?

I will say one thing, though. It's almost mind boggling looking at the
young talent the Truck series currently is.

DSFF, at least Kyle has been more beatable and has been beaten straight
up by series regulars more often in Trucks than in Nationwide. But Kyle
has done a great job of getting young drivers into the trucks and the
moves have paid off.

There is, in my mind, much more promising young talent in the Truck
series than in the Nationwide series. The top rides in Nationwide are
either held by Cup drivers or drivers with a good amount of Cup
experience trying to revitalize their careers in the Nationwide series.

Congrats to Erik Jones! Shame for Ross, though.

As I mentioned on the Cup discussion earlier in the week, I agree with
the comment above, there is a ton of talent in the Trucks. Jones,
Chastain, James Buescher, Ryan Sieg, Darrell Wallace, John Hunter
Nemechek, Jeb Burton, Ryan Blaney, Mason Mingus, Daniel Hemric...

Of course, there's a -20 for Steve "Wrecking Ball" Wallace, but there
you go.

Happy for Erik Jones. The truck series is the best. This was IMO the
worst truck race of the year, and it was still a really fun race.

What I'm worried about is NASCAR is bringing a completely new truck next
year to the truck series so it can look more like "the trucks you can
actually buy in dealers". I'm just hoping racing's best kept secret (the
truck series) isn't ruined by NASCAR's new truck. I wouldn't be so
worried but looking at the COT and Gen6 I'm worried.

If it's not broke ruin it.

Sorry for the complaining, good race happy for Erik. Also happy for Ron
in a Turner truck next week and with RCR contacting him. He's so upset
about his 2 year winless streak, he won't even talk about it to anyone,
he's that upset. That's a true racer. Another reason the truck series is
amazing.

Erik Jones officially becomes the youngest person ever to win a NASCAR
race in the 3 major series with this victory, beating out Chase
Elliott's 2 month-old record.

And as for the whole Cup Series championship debate, in truth, it's WAY
too early to guess. There are just so many talented drivers moving up in
the ranks right now, so for all we know, Mason Mingus might win a Cup
championship, but Jeb Burton would never win a race. It's just too hard
to tell at this point in time.

Missed the race because I had to work, but I was glad to hear Erik won,
and that Chastain ran a strong race from his pole position. I wish
Penske would try using his business savvy to convince Discount Tire to
let Ryan Blaney drive the full Nationwide schedule next year so Ross
could drive full time for BKR in this Series if it is indeed true that
he won't return in the #19 next season.

The Trucks Series has been the absolute best this season.
Of course NASCAR will probably ruin it next season by making the "Truck
of Tomorrow" a POS aero-pig like the rest of their new car designs.

I would rather seen Chastain win instead of Erik Jones, but still it is
nice to have many talented drivers out there. Who knows which kid will
be the next big thing, I hope it'll be Chastain or Bubba.

For me it will also be very interesting to see what Hornaday, a guy I
hate, can do in the same truck as Todd Bodine.
As a sidenote, I want Crafton to finish on the lead lap at Homestead,
iirc such thing has never been done in top level NASCAR competition.

field, they racing is every bit as close and exciting. I find it

That's absolutely not true. While the trucks drive the same, the quality
of racing, at least up front, is much worse when cup drivers are in the
field. If Kyle Busch had been in the #51 truck and dominated, of course
people would complain, because why wouldn't he? He's a cup driver, it
would have been no challenge for him. Putting a kid in his truck and
having them dominate-that's much more impressive and what the lower
series are supposed to be about. If the #51 and #19 trucks race long
battle had been between Busch and Keselowski or Logano, I wouldn't have
even bothered tuning in. The results may have been the same-#51 P2, #19
P2-but the drivers behing the wheel are what makes a race worth watching
or not watching.

Honestly, I think the truck series races are good no matter if the Cup
drivers are in them or not. At least they don't absolutely destroy the

It's not insanity, it's refreshment. My god, what exactly is wrong with
being burnt out on watching Cup drivers dominate the lower series? It's
not their series, and they have no business running as many races as
they do in these series with powerhouse equipment that gives them huge
advantages. And then the worst part is that some of these media people
try to combine the Cup guys' lower series stats with their Cup stats,
thus inflating their perception of the driver. Kyle Busch is a great
driver, but he is not Richard Petty or David Pearson level good despite
what his "total Nascar wins" suggest.

That's the problem I have with it. I'm just tired of this Cup driver
stagnation in these lower series. I don't know why that's such a crime
to some people.

Just to be a bit of a devil's advocate here...some of Kyle Busch's
Nationwide wins (especially the ones where he was up against a lot of
Cup drivers) are probably more impressive than a great number of Richard
Petty's wins. Its important to remember that many of Petty's wins were
won against pathetic fields on no-name short tracks that may have had
two or three other competitive cars in the race.

I'm not one to advocate for adding lower series wins to a drivers stats
like some media people do, but its an important thought to consider when
mulling over the legacy of some of these drivers' wins.

one of these lower events is objectively very good from a racing
standpoint, yet fans still complain about "the racing" because a driver
they don't like won.

Again, lets say Kyle was in Erik Jones' car last night, and the race
played out exactly like it did: with a fabulous 20 lap battle between
the 51 and 19. Objectively it would have been a GREAT race. But the
"fans" would have whined because they're "sick of Kyle winning".


Now, if Kyle would have stepped in the 51 and led every lap, then yeah,
you have a reason to be upset. But if the race is OBJECTIVELY good even
despite a Cup driver winning (and believe me, this happens a lot. The NW
product is actually quite good right now from an OBJECTIVE standpoint),
then fans complaining because a Cupper won just comes off as whiny and
immature.

There's no such thing as "objectively very good". Believe it or not,
each person is allowed to view any race as positively or negatively as
they like, depending on what they like and dislike.

@21: ESPN did that to a CART race at Road America 2001 when the race had
just started due to the long weather delay and to instead show coverage
of the WNBA. They ended up showing the full race on ESPN2 later that
night I believe.

@100: He already won the championship, don't know why they didn't say
that on Friday. Trucks only start 36 so 43+3 for win and +1 for lap
lead, and +1 for most lead would equal 48, 36th pays 8 points.
He is ahead by 46. Last I checked they do not give show up points or
deduct if you do not show up......

Even so Brett, Crafton still has to run another race to prevent Kyle
Busch's 51 Truck from stealing that Owner's Championship. They're only
ahead by 23 points leaving this race, so a top 20 finish is needed if
the 51 truck gets max points @ the finale.
