Pretty impressive second row, occupied by the two Ben's. Those kids
could have strong runs tonight.

And, watch out for Cole Custer, who starts 19th. He has been really
quick this year on the flat ovals. Remember, he dominated at Loudon
earlier this year.

And I just noticed all the backmarkers in this field. There are a few
names I've never seen before...

I've had to miss the last 3 Truck races for various reasons, but I do
plan to watch this race tonight. I hope it'll be a good competitive
race, and that Crafton can get one step closer to becoming the first
driver in Truck Series history to successfully defend his championship.
He's in good position to do so tonight seeing as he starts second...

Indeed; this is the first career Truck start for Jordan Anderson and
Japanese driver Akinori Ogata. Tyler Tanner and Wendell Chavous are also
making only their second starts...

It's a shame Ross Chastain got booted from the 35 for Akinori Ogata, AKA
The Japanese Wrecking Ball...he is a glorified Milka Duno, I guarantee
he causes a caution tonight.

Don't be surprised in Brennan Newberry is in contention tonight, he's
getting double the practice time since he's in the Nationwide Series,
and that 9 truck is pretty quick. Also don't be surprised if Erik Jones
leads this one flag to flag though...

I refuse to believe Wendell Chavous is a real person until I see him,
himself on camera. Until then I will assume that name is a moniker "fat
cat" Mike Harmon made up and is racing under for fun.

The amount of high-potential young talent in this race is incredible.
Jones, Blaney, Wallace, Rhodes, Nemechek, Custer, Reddick, Kennedy, B.
Jones, Burton, Mingus, Tifft, Gallagher, even Gaulding...this is an
absolutely phenomenal field. Wish I was able to watch this one.

The Busch series raced at IRP once with some lights out on the
backstretch after the long rain delay then Chris Diamond crashing and
knocked one out. Granted that was just one light on a smaller, slower
track than Phoenix. Here's hoping we get the power back on to the whole
track soon.

Darrell Wallace Jr's #54 Toyota tonight is the same truck his team won
with at Martinsville. The truck has retained its blue-and-white Wendell
Scott tribute paint scheme for this race but the numbers and sponsorship
changed out for Wallace's normal #54 ToyotaCare setup.

This is a HELL of a bad way to start a race off: have it be delayed for
over an hour due to a power failure, and then have a multi-truck
accident right at the green flag that causes a 10+ lap caution.

On the restart Spencer Gallagher got into Timothy Peters, spinning both
trucks into the outside wall and setting up Jeb Burton to be collected
and get the outside wall.

Rough night already for ThorSport. Johnny Sauter clipped Ben Rhodes in
the prior caution and now Burton wrecks here.

Ogata is off the track and the restart goes as planned.

Is Ogata the first Japanese driver to race in the trucks since Shigeaki
Hattori's infamous stay in 2005? I know Kenji Momota was the series'
first Japanese racer when he did the finale here at Phoenix in 1995 (and
wrecked out early) but I think those might be the only three NASCAR
truck drivers from the Land of the Rising Sun.

Worth noting that NASCAR confiscated one of Bubba Wallace's gas cans for

and Republican Rick Scott has already been re-elected as the governor
(It was a close election too, he won with 48.16% of the vote to Democrat

The on-track racing itself was pretty good, but it's disappointing that

I think Erik has easily elevated himself to the same level as Chase,
Blaney, and Bubba, but I'm not gonna rank him over those guys yet though
just because I want to see how he does in a few more NNS/NXS rides (I'm
sure he'll be fine though - he looks great in the #20 car so far this
weekend). For now, I'd say those four are pretty interchangeable.

But yes, Erik is insanely talented. I think he's easily the favorite for
the Truck title next year.

You're right, it all depends on personal preference. My rankings would
probably look something like this:

1. Larson
2. Blaney
3. Jones
4. Wallace
5. Elliott

Let me throw this stat out there: Jones has won 25% of his career starts
in Truck. That's a win every four races. Absolutely insane.

If I absolutely had to go in order, it would probably be something like
this:

-1. Larson (Definitely at the top if we're including him.)
-2. Chase (I know he's fallen off here late in the season, but
ultimately, he's still gonna be the NNS champion as a rookie. Also, the
way he won the Darlington race really proved a lot to me. He doesn't
seem to be just the average Kasey Kahne style "wheel holder" that a lot
of people, including myself, pegged him to be. He's legit.)
-3. Blaney (Beating Kyle Busch straight up at Bristol while driving
basically a wrecked race car is no joke.)
-4. Bubba (This might be a tad bias putting him over Erik just because
Bubba is my favorite out of all of these guys, but I think a win at
Eldora and two Martinsville wins just slightly trumps what Erik has done
in Trucks so far.)
-5. Erik (Eventually he may end up being better than most of these guys
- he definitely seems to be rock solid in the consistency department -
but for now, due to just slightly less experience, I have him just a
tick behind those guys.)

But again, I think it's really hard to rank them all at the moment
(except for having Larson at the top - but honestly, I think we can take
him out of this category now that he has basically run a full Cup
season). I think after next year we'll have a better idea of how all
these guys stack up, because there really are some questions that they
all need to answer. Can Chase win back to back NNS/NXS titles, or will
he have a sophomore slump? How will Blaney (and hopefully, Bubba) do in
his (their) first NNS/NXS season(s) (and also for Blaney, how will he do
in the Wood Brothers car)? And can Erik win the Truck title as a rookie?

So yeah, I think after next year it'll be a bit easier to rank these
guys. But for now, I think they are all VERY close to each other. It'll
be a lot of fun to see how they all develop. Even though there's a ton
of excitement and craziness in the Cup Series with the new Chase and
whatnot, watching all these young guys develop is currently my favorite
thing going on in Nascar.

This race and the lights going out during a green flag run reminds me of
the time I was at my local dirt track in Racine,MN....Deer Creek
Speedway when the lights on the track went completey out all over in the
middle of a dirt modified feature.....At the time turn one at this track
didnt have a wall....it was amazing non of the drivers went off

I did not see this race, but this might be the wierdest Truck race ever!
Do you think there were any other Truck races as weird as this?

They say that full moons and racing don't go together (and there was a
full moon last night), and that strange things happen under such
circumstances, but what happened in this race went far beyond even that.
And DB1995, you say that this was the worst event in NASCAR this season.
I'll go father than that. In all the years I've watched NASCAR (and it's
been since 1989), this may be the worst event in modern NASCAR history.
Power failures (or rolling blackouts, for that matter), high attrition
due to crashes, even on the initial start, cautions much lengthier than
necessary (really, did that first caution need to go 18 laps?), and a
pretty dull race in which first and second never once changed hands,
except for the sequencing of pit stops. It was as if a higher power
decreed that this race was not supposed to be run last night, and NASCAR
ran it anyway, and paid the price for it. This race was an absolute
disaster from even before the word "GO".
