I think Ry Dunlap said it best in the pre-race show. The trucks just punch such a big hole in the air you're never gonna run fast by yourself. Basically everything over a mile and a half for the trucks is gonna be like qualifying on a plate track. Honestly i think the best option for the trucks would be to just go back to the single car runs. That's probably the best option for the series. 26. If anything, I'd say it's pretty much identical. Back then you had multiple top dogs like Ultra, Morgan-Dollar, and BHR, just like how now we have multiple top dogs like KBM, ThorSport, and BKR. You also had really competitive high second-tier teams then like Spears and Circle Bar, just like we have now with Red Horse, NTS, Nemco, and a few others that are on their way to that ranking (I expect the Gallagher team will sort of jump into this tier this year). So yeah. It's definitely not the greatest Truck Series field we've ever seen, but to act like it's the Indy Lights Series or something is blowing it way out of proportion. 33. The fields are shorter, yes, but I'll be damned if there isn't a butt-load of talent out there. Not just young potential (though that's the biggest positive from my standpoint), but seasoned vets like Crafton and Sauter that never got the chance to shine in Cup. Plus this series is not nearly as prone to double-dipping by Cup drivers as Xfinity is (especially with Kyle out). So I honestly think the talent we have in this series is pretty darn solid. 36. "10 years ago thorsport was a mid pack team with Matt Crafton not much has changed with that team since so when all the big dogs closed shop thats when thorsport became an elite team." You could also easily turn that around and say that the reason they became elite was that they had the lasting power that all of the other top teams (Ultra, Bill Davis, Morgan-Dollar, etc) failed to duplicate. They were always a good little team with an underrated driver (Crafton) that kept plugging away at it, finally were able to add a quality second team with a quality second driver (Sauter), and subsequently, became elite. So I think it's foolish to solely attribute other teams closing up shop with them becoming elite. 48. At this point, I still think Jones is the slight absolute favorite just because three-peats are extremely difficult and rare in ANY sport (let alone the insane grind these Nascar teams have), but Crafton will almost certainly be there at least until Homestead.
