It will only make his race at Homestead easier, but unless he has a full race worth of points over both Crafton and Reddick, it won't be sealed up. 6. Perhaps someone felt this was a completely inappropriate topic to bring up on a race thread? Best I can think of...Needless to say though, I agree with the sentiments; it's just horrible to hear about such barbaric acts of terrorism... Haven't really watched much of the Trucks in recent weeks...I'm curious to see what will happen tonight. I'm guessing Jones is going to win, but we'll see. Going to be interested in seeing how William Byron and Rico Abreu do in their debuts; based on their performances in the K&N East Series this past year, definitely think these guys are going to be ones to keep our eyes on in the future... 10. 02Justin10 posted: 11.13.2015 - 7:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Another solid truck series lineup. And again, no cuppers to be found. I believe for Crafton to have a realistic shot at winning the title, he has to take at least 7 points out of Jones' point lead tonight. But considering how well Erik Jones does at Phoenix, that will be a tall order. 11. ThatGuy posted: 11.24.2020 - 7:16 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) If the truck series used the playoff format this season, this would've been a crazy race. I went through the year and tallied everything up exactly as it was in 2015, then reset things to make the playoffs. Only 3 drivers would've gotten in on wins: Matt Crafton (4), Erik Jones (2), and Tyler Reddick (2). The other races were won by Cup drivers or part timers (Joey Logano, Kasey Kahne, Kyle Busch, Ryan Blaney, Cole Custer, Christopher Bell and John Hunter Nemechek). The 5 drivers to get in on points were Johnny Sauter, Daniel Hemric, Cameron Hayley, Timothy Peters and John Wes Townley. Yep. John Wes Townley would've made it in...and on points! Austin Dillon wins Loudon so nobody advances, but Matt Crafton finishes 2nd, helping his point lead. Then, the ultimate upset. John Wes Townley WINS Las Vegas, locking him into the round of 6, and the only one safe from Talladega. Daniel Hemric finishes 28th at 'Dega, so he's done (ends the round with 2,093 points). Matt Crafton leads the most laps, but is involved in 2 late wrecks, he finishes 24th, but actually is 3rd (overall) in points, but 4th behind winners Peters & Townley, and Erik Jones. Reddick & Sauter advance with 5th & 7th place finishes at Talladega, but Cameron Hayley's 6th isn't good enough to overcome Townley winning Vegas, and he is eliminated. At Martinsville, Crafton locks himself into the championship 4 right away. He was the only playoff driver to finish in the top 4, but all 6 finished in the top 11. Reddick finishes 5th, Peters 6th, Sauter 9th, Erik Jones 10th and Townley 11th. At Texas, Erik Jones puts it in victory lane for the 3rd time and locks himself into the championship 4. Crafton finished 4th, Reddick 5th, Peters 6th, Sauter 13th & Townley 17th. So heading into Phoenix the standings look like this: Matt Crafton 3,088 (locked in) Erik Jones 3,082 (locked in) Tyler Reddick 3,079 Timothy Peters 3,076 Johnny Sauter 3,066 (-10) John Wes Townley 3,060 (-16) Erik Jones & Matt Crafton would lead 121 of the first 122 laps, showing that the season long title favorite were again peaking. But, with 31 to go, coming to the front stretch, they were battling for the lead, Jones with the edge, Crafton on the inside. Crafton gets loose, goes up into Jones, they get damage, Crafton comes down the track into teammate Johnny Sauter who also gets heavy damage. Crafton would run a few more laps, Sauter went straight to the garage and Jones rebounded for 9th. I wonder, if they both knew they were racing (each other) for a championship the next week if they would've given each other more room and been more cautious than aggressive. This would've given Sauter a chance to get into the championship 4 as well. If things went down the same way, the final points after Phoenix would have been: Timothy Peters 3,123 (win) Erik Jones 3,119 (win) Matt Crafton 3,110 (win) Tyler Reddick 3,118 John Wes Townley 3,101 Johnny Sauter 3,085 So not only does Townley move past the first round, he actually winds up 1 spot out of the championship 4. Once the points reset for Homestead though, Hayley would have 2,214, Sauter would have 2,196 and Townley 2,195 with Hemric at 2,178 Phoenix created some serious what ifs from 2015-2017. What if Jones & Crafton didn't wreck? Crafton lost 15 points in this 1 race. What if William Byron didn't have an engine failure? He would've made the championship 4, and he won at Homestead. What if Cindric & Rhodes didn't get together and end Rhodes night in 2017? Rhodes came into Phoenix 5 points behind and had made up 4 after the 2 stages, so if he finished 4th (like he did stage 1 & 2, behind Bell, Gragson & Crafton) Cindric would have to finish 6th or worse ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
